Square looks really good.

However I am a little confused with their pics. They show their dongle plugged into the base of the iphone and again on their website, yet in the video they plug it into the headphone socket?

It's plugs into the headphone jack, the iPod touch has the headphone jack on the bottom.

The square thing looked really interesting. But i'm guessing its US only at the moment? seeing in Europe we use Chip & Pin, no one really uses the magnetic strip anymore. Get a chip reader version and it'd sell like hotcakes!

I've bene told that the Euro Square reader is next. What I'm not sure of, is since you can key in CC numbers if the Euro cards will work that way. I'mm off to Europe on tour in two days, I will try it while I'm there.

Can the Square App process credit cards over the phone, ie, say you're on call to a customer and they give you their credit card details, can you type it into the App and process a payment?

Technically, yes. It does have a signing screen for the customer, but I suppose you can sign for them with their permission, but you absolutely can enter in numbers manually for 3.5% of the total sale. Using the swiper will cost 2.9%.

The 32GB 3G iPad is for those heavy FloTV days...

Of course you could always use the 16GB wifi only iPad for the lighter days.

How old are you? 4? 5? Tasteless and not even remotely funny. If anything it's just silly and sounds like something little girls would say to each other on the playground...

Hey I think this quote sums you up best and naturally you fall into the latter half(excluding bigger and better) of the quote.

"Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the universe trying to build bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning."

Navigon MobileNavigator

I can't figure out why Navigon won't include a route summary to MobileNavigator. Hard to understand - if it only had that it could easily outperform other nav apps like TomTom.

Not sure what if any 'special' deals that Square might have cut with Apple, but the headphone jack is not, to the best of my knowledge, an Apple Made for iPod / Works with iPhone supported interface. I would be surprised if Square is permitted to use the Works with iPhone or Made for iPod logos in advertising or on printed materials. Square is bypassing the Apple hardware licensing model and also the Apple hardware certification process by using the headphone jack.

Hmm... do you think headphone manufacturers have get a "special deal" to sell headphones to iPhone users?

If the Square unit converts the signal to an audio signal, and then their app decodes it, who cares? There's nothing wrong with this practice.

$149 for a cheap DVI adapter???

How much do you think it costs them to make this cable? $5? $7?

Highway robbery at its best!

I don't think you understand what this does. DisplayPort and DVI are two completely different signals. The box has to decode one standard and re-encode it in the other. It's not just a cable adapter.

But if you can figure out how to build and sell one for $7, go ahead - you'll get rich.

Nope. Chargeback potential. Cash is king.

Chargebacks can be fought and won by the vendor. Chargebacks only succeed when the customer asserts they didn't receive what was sold to them. The vendor can provide a receipt or shipping notice and that is usually enough to win the chargeback.

I've been noticing that my iphone causes interference with the stereo system that's connected to my computer. Seems to happen at intervals that I'd associate with the iPhone checking mail, but I haven't timed it to make sure. I never had this issue with any other devices, although I don't use any other wifi devices near my computer, so i'm guessing that may be where the interference came from.

If it matters, I also notice that this happens sometimes at work on the speaker system that's connected to that machine as well, though I don't seem to notice it happening nearly as much. Maybe it's distance from the speakers, or maybe those speakers are better quality than what I have at home.

any thoughts?

iV Plus

So is there any talk of doing an 'iV Plus' like product with a Micro SD slot? I'd love this option for either the iPhone or iPod Touch as it would allow me to expand my music / video collection without having to upgrade my pod every couple years.

Someone please make that product.
