Well, I tried putting aliases in there but they don't work. I'm guessing it has to be the actual app. I'll try terminal and see.

The symlinks I posted above are definitely working for me. I didn't actually try an alias - I was just guessing that it should accomplish the same thing as a symlink. Maybe not though ...

WikiDot had the "copy Expose" trick last night. But I thought the symlink idea more elegant, so I switched to that. Thanks.

However, even with this hacks, the mouse speed and acceleration don't seem to be adjusted by the LCC. Not a big deal; the default speed is OK.

Any indication of when a new LCC will be out?

No worries. ;)

I'm new with terminal. Before I do this, how do you cancel the symlink when Logitech fixes the issue? I wouldn't want to conflict with their software in any way. Can you send me the actual command? I'm not familiar with this type of coding at all.

I got MX Revolution to work w/Spaces + Snow Leopard

I have "Spaces" assigned to the "Spotlight" key at the top of the mouse.
It stopped working under Snow Leopard. Assigning a key press to the Spotlight button on the mouse via didn't seem to be an option, because Spaces only lets you assign F-keys to the Spaces function and LCC doesn't seem to provide a way to use F-keys (that I could figure out).

What I did alternatively that works great is, in LCC, I assigned "Advance Click" to the Spotlight button, and selected the click to generate a "mouse button 8" event.
Then in the Spaces preferences assigned Mouse button 8 as the trigger button to activate the Space zoom out function.

And whalla!

It works faster in Snow Leopard than it did in Leopard. Also in Leopard there was a glitch
where sometimes the Spaces would do a slow pan out and back in, which I never wanted.

Very clever! This seems more safe to me than having duplicate apps. Excellent. Works great! :)

Now that I've tested it a little more, it does seem to be more snappier with it running this way.

You may want to have an additional button for 'Expose - All Windows'. It works wonders with spaces.

This works too, and prevents multiple copies from existing. Open terminal, and type:

Code:
ln -s /Applications/Utilities/Expose.app /Applications/Expose.app
ln -s /Applications/Utilities/Spaces.app /Applications/Spaces.app

I assume creating an alias from the finder would do the same.
Hi, great stuff, except... now that I have an alias of both in Applications.... now what?

Also, when I now go to the LCC in System preferences, it can't detect my MX...?

No worries. ;)

You can leave them there. They are similar to MS Window's program/file shortcuts. What's neat is that when Apple releases updates, they don't need to be touched as they simply point to the apps. When Logitech fixes the problems and you don't want the "clutter" in the Application directory, just delete the aliases.

Thanks, mac-slap-happy, for the elegant modification to the workaround. Works like a charm and I don't have to worry about doing config management during OS X updates! :)

Well, after doing the alias thing, my LCC is not detcting the MX at all and I've also lost the scroll button press giving me dashboard  I don't know if it's because of doing the alias or not...

Left / Right click and scroll still works though... :(

I haven't done anything with the aliases, and my LCC is not recognizing my MX at all. It still works as a basic mouse, but none of the other buttons perform their usual function.

OK, thanks Steve, yeah, I guess the timing was just right to confuse me :) I guess I'll have to wait for Logitech to sort their stuff out. Cheers.

You do have to install the current LCC (V3.0). It will barf if you run the standard installer but there's a trick: open the package and navigate to the installer itself and run that. There's a tip here somewhere... Once you do that and the alias trick, everything's good; Logitech can take their sweet time but, at least, all MX Rev functionality (AFAIK) works...

I'll have to give that a shot. What's the best way to open the package without running their autoinstall? Just unzip the file? I'm not going to hold my breath waiting on Logitech. I have a MX5500 keyboard/MX Revolution combo at work, and the LCC software refuses to recognize it. Oddly, LCC does recognize (err, did) the MX by itself. Logitech hasn't done anything to correct this.

Look at message #10 of this thread. The poster found a tip from a Logitech forum to bypass the OS version checker and run the LCC installer directly...

It work!!! only with function keys...

Hey this really made me frustrated!! like everybody else i use the Thumb Button for expose.. and i hasn't worked since i installed 10.6.

but after reading some comment in the forum, I tried the function option. IT WORKS!!! I have Exposé back!

1. disable the keyboard functions so that you can actually type in a Function Key.
2. got to LCC
3. click on any button you want to make expose. ( i use the forward & back thumb buttons)
4. determine on those buttons which expose function you would like it to perform.. (F9, F10, F11)
5.once you have selected your function... go back to keyboard..
6. re-Activate function for Expose

your button should work now..

hope this makes sense!!

Just drag to trash. :)

Actual command if you prefer to use Terminal would be:

Code:
rm -f /Applications/Expose.app
rm -f /Applications/Spaces.app

Note that the above will delete the symbolic links and not the actual apps themselves which now live in /Applications/Utilities.

Off topic, but along the same lines... how does everyone set up their extra buttons for the MX Revolution? I'm just curious to see if maybe there is a more useful set of actions that what I'm using now. I liked the idea of using the "Search" button on the top to activate Spaces. I do unfortunately use that button to do a quick Google search, but I may re-evaluate how often I do that.

Here's how I have mine set up:

Forward / Back = ⌘-Left Arrow / ⌘-Right Arrow
Thumb Wheel Back = All Windows (Expose)
Thumb Wheel Forward = Application Windows (Expose)
Thumb Wheel Button = Show Desktop

I wish we had an actual button on the top scroll wheel. Seems I'm always needing about one more function than I have buttons. :)

You have both the Scroll itself and the Search button. What's not "actual" about these?

Sorry - I didn't explain this well. I use the scroll wheel button to engage / disengage the free wheel scrolling. That ties this "button" up and I can't actually use it for something else.

Mouse/Spaces Problem

Hey guys,

I have a Razer Copperhead mouse and was having almost exactly the same problem and I fixed it this way:

  1. Open the Utilities Folder
  2. Right-click on the Spaces application
  3. Select 'Get Info' from the menu
  4. Select the 'Open in 32-bit mode' check box under the general info
  5. Restart machine (or kill the spaces process if you can find it)

It doesn't take long and there doesn't appear to be a huge benefit to running spaces in 64-bit mode at the moment. In a few months/year it might be worth it to switch back.

Hope this helps someone!

To install LCC in Snow Leopard, follow the steps here. All the credits to powerbookguy on Logitech Mac Forum:

To get the Expose and Spaces functions back so that you can use Thumb Wheel to activate it, you just need to change the mouse buttons to perform keystroke in LCC. It works fine on my iMac by going this route.

thanks that helped:D

I use a Logitech Cordless Nano Laser, I have the same problem. I do want a wireless Mighty Mouse, so I might just go get one tomorrow.

For those who tried to go the symbolic link route and failed. I think it depends what the admin permissions are like. I had to SUDO the commands to make them work
