Gratz. :)

I'm holding out (barely) until the end of the month to make my purchase at a local Apple store.

Congrats!!
I was so happy the day I switched! That was back....5, 6 years ago I believe. All thanks to an Art teacher that showed me everything about OS X. It was so nice I just had to run out and get a Mac. My dad disapproved though, but oh well, I've gone through 2/3 macs since then and he can't say anything about it cause it was purchased with MY money. MWHAHA.

I really want to see the new screen on the PB, though.

I know how u feel, ordered my Powerbook on the 3rd, took the option of 100Gb HD, it shipped on the 5th and is STILL in China...!!!
I wonder what the discrepancy is with the shipping times. Mine left on the estimated shipping date and the same day, it arrived in Anchorage. A few days later, it was here in Indy. Sat here over the weekend and it was here first thing in the morning. So that was something like two business days from shipment to delivery. Even at the start of the order, it was only four business days.

I really wish I knew! Called TNT @ lunchtime and they said it was still in China and probably waiting for a container to be filled before shipping.
So thats 3 days it has sat in China going no where!
How can your be dilvered so quickly - where as mine sits going nowhere?

Come on it takes time to cram a 100 illegal refuges into a container..... :D

You lucky devil.

I wish I had $3k to get a new laptop :(

Enjoy your new toy. And BTW, what is all this nonsense about preparing your machine for its first boot? The thing is ready out of the box, just plug it in and use it chief.

Just got confirmation my order shipped. I sure hope it's not just the beginning of a two month ordeal with Apple about my display....we'll see.

It was quite nice to see it shipped though, since I ordered it last night at about this time.

Kicking myself for not dropping the extra $25 for 2-day, but I can wait 5-6 days, I guess. Just gives me more chance to read about everyone's problems with these things, right! Ha.

Yeah and I love that about it. I was just curious as to whether there were any suggestions to making sure everything's set up correctly, like calibrating my battery.

I'm really surprised by the battery life on Sleep mode though. It was on for about the whole night where my last (Windows) laptop could barely stay on for 4 hours on hibernate. And the Sleep indicator light is mesmerizing. Now, I want a pulsating white light on everything.

It is not 3k... more like 2k :D

Added pics and impressions in my first post. BTW, how do I edit the thread title?

Great pics and review! Don't think you can edit the title though... i think that's a mod-only function.

To all of those who ordered custom built - that is exactly why I didn't go with the custom made. Instead, I went to the store and just got a stock. Perfect solution, I got it instantly and now I just picked up a drive enclosure for $10.00 off eBay for my extra large files :)

I think I'll post pictures of mine as well :p

Cheers,

Would love to have gone to an Apple Store to collect my Powerbook, but the closest store is like 6 hours drive (each way).

Its now the next day - and yeah - its still in China!

SteveMcQ -> Cool pics

Spoke to TNT - they are saying my Powerbook will be dilvered on the 14th.

So, ordered on the 2nd, shipped on the 5th and expect dilvery on the 14th!!

Why oh why is it still sitting in China?

I Hate apples delivery policy. Ok so we get free shipping, whoopee.. After spending 2k on a laptop we should get expeditied UPS shipping, not take six days before we do anything TNT delivery.

Seriously TNT are bad, I cant recall the number of products from Apple Online Store I've bought that have got mislaid, mis-routed and miss whatever...

I ordered the ipod photo when they first came out. It left China, and took 6 weeks by Courier to get to Ireland. WTF??? Surely the point of Courier is to improve delivery experience and to expedite it, not to drag it out to the point where your checking online status every couple of hours in the vain hope that its status has changed, and its moved that bit closer to you :)

Well, at least it's only a few more days away. The wait's gonna be pretty unbearable I would imagine. Just try not to keep checking the status every 12 hours like I did.

That's too bad for the shipping to Europe. Is TNT the main delivery option there? I'm wondering why they choose them for European deliveries. Do they send it around the long way (East from China) or West across Asia?

Every 12 hours - I'm checking every 3 hours.
We have no option, its TNT or TNT! We don't even have the option to pay for express service.

TNT do suck - at least they are open 24/7 so as soon as it arrives in town I can go get it.

Great post, steveMcQ, and good timing too...

I'm off out to buy a 15" powerbook this weekend- fortunately there are lots of retailers in London so I'll just get one off the shelf. I'm still very concerned about the lines/flickering business though and it's encouraging to see that yours doesn't seem to suffer from this.

Yours looks like it is great! The screen looks WAY brighter than the screen was on the one I returned and the computer looks to be flawless! Congrats :D

Flawless as in no horizontal lines?
