Just got word that an ipad 3 is on it's way to me. Any tips? I have a MBA but haven't had an ipad or iphone before.

It's very straight-forward. No need for any tips really.

The ones I would give a child or my parents are:
- don't let the battery drain down too low regularly... Try to charge it by the time you hit 10 percent or so
- keep the iPad in a good spot don't keep it in a hot car
- get a case for the iPad... Not hard to scratch the thing... Don't bother with a screen guard though
- the camera lens on the back is something you don't want scratched so just be careful

The general words of advice are to be careful.

As far as using the device goes, just have fun, it's easy.

A few tips......

1-go into dark room, turn brightness all the way up on I pad and check
For screen bleed,pink,yellow,dead pixels,etc.

2-get ready to charge for at least 10 hrs(not like 2)

3-when in dark room, tilt pad at angles to check for bezel light leak

4-use heavily the first few days and test if it overheats and goes out on thermal
Reset-1 of mine did

5-if you see any of the above post so the fanboys can convince you that the defects are not there

6-get ready for multiple exchanges looking for that perfect one after many trips-
Sort of reminds me of gm in the 60's-70's

7-go back to your 2 because the "rectum screen" is not worth all the above problems-hopefully apple qc gets it together

8-if you get one without all the above problems, post pics of the screen so the fanboys who kept there pad with all of the above problems can congratulate you
And tell the rest of us -see,there are problem free ones.
It should not be like this but it is with the 3.
Best of luck and enjoy

I test any new device that I'm lucky enough to get & am very comfortable with Apple customer service if there should be any problems. I've very excited here 🙂

LOL, Nothing takes away my joy over getting a new toy! 😀

Trade it in for a iPad 2 so all the nonsense threads are made don't make you go back and look to find a problem with yours

Get a case, and not just the smart cover. If you do want a smart cover, stay clear of the leather and get a shell for the back too. Otherwise, consider a folio style case. They offer better protection for when you take the iPad out of the house and a much more stable stand for when you use it sitting at a table or desk.

Also ignore the naysayers. If perchance there is a defect, you won't find a company more willing to correct it for you than Apple. How people can expect anything better from a mass-produced product is beyond me.

Enjoy, it's going to become your new constant companion.

Why stay clear of the leather? My black leather smart cover is great.

That case looks great. I have a similar one. I like that it doesn't cover the bezel to destract from the clean lines of the device. And as a stand, you can still tap on the iPad firmly without it toppling.

Re: leather smart cover. My experience was with one of the bright colors, so the black might wear better. But the red that I had looked horrible after just a month. Wiping away any smudge that got on it took away some of the dye, and oil from your hands stained the edges. Apple took it back and i got a vinyl one that has held up much better.

The great benifits of a iPad are the Apps. Many good free ones like Flipboard and a few freetrail games too. Search for what you think you would like. iMovie IMHO is a must and the iPad 3 has a quality camera (back). Loads to do and learn have fun. Also find the screen brightness as the factory settings are too high and save battery life. PS get a screen guard.

It is scheduled to arrive tomorrow! Rubbing my little hands together in geekish glee 😀

Try and put some good organizing and lifestyle apps on this thing and use it as an everyday device. Almost like a backpack, its a very nice device to keep everything in. (Music, videos, info, social net., etc.)
