Whenever I see screen shots such as the one above.

I can't help but look at the iPads screen and think what a waste.

The lock screen pretty much totally empty, and the main screen also totally empty apart from program icons.

There is just so much more Apple could do with that giant (in hand held terms) screen.

The Galaxy Tab would be awesome if it was 299-399 Unsubsidized, but It's less than an iPad, more than a phone, totally not worth 600$ or 399 with a monthly fee

Dont know bout tabs, but as far as phones go, Ive had an iphone and an android phone. I wont be going back to an iphone, androids got it beat hands down.

No not an android fanboy either. Got a 64g 3g Ipad coming in the mail.

Neither device is perfect but as long as you are happy with your personal purchase that's the be all end all.

Personally I love my iPad and have a good broadband connection which really complements it. It's almost completely replaced my mac as the main web browser.

Also I have no issues holding it with one hand. You guys might need to work on your fore arm strength. ;)

And yet iPhones account for 60% of mobile web use traffic. ;) Perhaps that's a sign as to which phone is more accessible and easy to use? But hey, more power to you, I've used both an Evo and a Droid X for extended periods, Androids flagship phones, and won't ever be going back after using an iPhone. Funny how people's experiences are so different.

Played with a Tab and found it very strange in portrait view, actually it felt like a big cell phone which isn't a bad thing I guess but not what I would want my tablet to be.
Seems getting half the screen space, 37% less battery life and being kind of "laggy" compared to the iPad yet costing then a iPad makes it a no brainer to me.

I have read some comments about the Galaxy Tab screen having much blacker blacks and cleaner whites than the iPad screen.

Can anyone else comment on this who has both devices?

Iphone has also been around for years longer then android phones, of course its going to have the higher percentage of mobile web use. Thats also changing fast.

Really? You call a little over one year 'years' longer? Not only that but Android phones across their 20 different models have a market share even larger than iPhone. So for a phone that has a market share of 21% to have a web usage of 60% I don't think can be explained down to being around slightly longer. Also, those stats don't even include iPad which is also defined as mobile web usage.

Sorry, doesn't cut it. It doesn't take a year for someone to open a web browser. :)

That doesnt even make any sense. And besides, smart phones are about lot more then web browsing. Not sure why your so fascinated by that statistic.

I have the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G and while it is a great phone, the operating system isn't really ready for a tablet. After trying a co-worker's Galaxy it's nice. The size and weight are great.

Only issue is it just doesn't feel polished. I know a tablet specific or enhanced version of Andriod is coming but at $599 it's just too much right now.

Though paying $400 for this 4G phone was too much too. There are times Andriod is better than iOS. Those times are usually when I want t do something Steve thinks I shouldn't. For IT and technology enthusiasts the Andriod OS is very flexible and reasonably complete. For the masses iOS is simple and has an awesome user experience.

Cheers,

"I also have older itouches in radio clock next to bed when I don't want to take the iPad to bed (upstairs). It is an incredible resource to have so handy."

You're either far too rich or far too lazy.

For one, I dont have Jobs telling em what apps I can put onto my phone. Its also much more customizable then the iphone. And most importantly its never been unusable in cold weather, which the iphone did, at the worst times too.

Not really, iPods pile up over years. People keep them in bathrooms these days. Don't forget the touch has been around for 3 years already. Maybe they bought one, got a free one with a Mac later, etc.

I have an android phone and an ipod touch 32gb, I could not fathom anyone wanting an android phone over an iPhone! the retina display, the lovely camera and the layout (rows etc) just seem to work!

But of course the very best thing about the iPod for me is the wealth of apps in the appstore. The android marketplace is a flea market to apple's department store.

I'd only buy a 7" tablet if it was an amazing ebook reader and a great interface, the Galaxy Tab which I have used, is neither.

my 2cents.

Yeah, the major problem with the galaxy tab is the price. It needs to be priced under the iPad without any contract. $400 with contract for an oversized smartphone? No thanks, I'll take an iPad for $100 more and no monthly fee.

JB-ing takes care of the first two. As per the last one, I've never had that happen, so...

Oh please... lol thats certainly a mantra here after comments such as yours.

The tab does not really offer anything that makes it stand out from the iPad if you have a decent phone. The iPad has created and filled it's own little niche quite nicely. If you want an alternative, be happy it's there. It seems there are always individuals who think so (as evidenced here).

He'll, someone bought an OQO once....

I'm with this guy and BTW I'm typing this message on my iPad right now. The fact is, android as it is with it's home screen widgets, proper notification system, customization, accessible filesystem, proper multitasking is already more appropriate for a tablet/laptop replacement than iOS is right now.

Ironically my android phone has all these while my much larger iPad doesn't. And don't forget that what 'tablet support' really ends up meaning in a lot of apps is simply the fact that applications add a list box on the left when you are in landscape mode.

What the android camp needs to do is start optimizing the graphical performance of the os, as most tablet buyers make up their minds based on comparisons of swipes and pinch zooms which the iPad is FAR smoother with. I've read this is because android doesn't make proper use of the GPU in a lot of cases as it was designed at a time when it was much less common for smart phones to have one.

7" size has at least some advantages

7" tablet is a handheld device. As we all know, iPad is a "leg-held" device. There is a difference and for those who need mobility 7" migh be a better choice.

Android phones rock, now as a tablet they have not come along yet, but as a phone they are fantastic. Customizable, the openness apps are just as up to par with apples app store, maybe not just not there yet, but it has everything i need, and or want. Along with not being stuck with 1 provider. You dont like androids stock UI, you can switch it up with the the tap of your finger tips.
