I've never found one of those ac ones that will hold and Pro Max up, but haven't tried in years.
Yeap i was the same. The deal on this popped up suddenly for 5 bucks and i rolled the dice as no lose option.

Turned out very sturdy and holds tight 16 pro max that we have.

I’ve experienced my silver 17 Pro Max getting overly warm and almost hot from just having it charge on the Qi charger in my car. When it’s charging on there, it says at the top that it’s a slow charger. That’s kind of ridiculous so I’m hoping for the next iOS 26 update to assist this potential issue.

Turn your iPhone off for 4 minutes and then turn it back on. This should clear the problem. Sometimes a new iOS needs a hard manual restart.

I haven’t seen this on an iPhone in over five years. I would definitely return it. You’re clearly using too much power so you might want to consider our regular 17 or a pro

Living in Australia pretty much every iPhone I've had has overheated at least once in summer. It's been better since I got a new car mount, and set it up so that an A/C vent can blow cold air onto the back of my phone.

This has happened on every iPhone I’ve ever used, until I learned not to do it. Nothing to do with it being the Air.

Well there's a cool (har har) idea! Glue a Peltier to your car's phone mount. Only challenge would be powering it. And it turns out that's not much of a challenge either as you can get a 12v Peltier from Aliexpress for a whole $2.35:

Do you live in Phoenix?

What was the ambient temperature outside, and in the car?

I've regularly overheated all my iPhones in the oven.

All your "That's obvious" posts aren't so obvious. The phone was oddly hot from the charging. 80 degree day here. Mildly sunny. In a car with very dark tinted windows.

Got to safe something for the next edition in probably 2-3 years.
The Air will be a annual update unlike the every 3 years New iPhone “E” model
With rumours of the folding version next year, I’ll really be surprised if they go with another Air the same year.

Can see them going biannual.
Its a first gen product so only time will tell. If there are too many overheating complaints then they will have to update it next year with better thermals like a Vapor cooling chamber which the similar Samsung edge has.

Seems to me like its functioning as designed. Cars can get very hot
That is not a normal operation, not even for Macs. That type of shutdown is because the phone or computer has reached its internal temperature limit before damage occurs. It is then that the phone or computer shuts down and stays that way until it has cooled enough. If it were to happen to my new Apple phone or computer, I would immediately call Apple Support and exchange it.

However, during normal operation such as charging the phone the battery may get warm, but not hot to the touch. The same if discharging the battery in a short period of time, in which case the phone can get warm enough, but not hot to the touch.

I also agree with others who have mentioned that leaving the phone exposed to hot sunlight is not advisable. The same if charging the phone while exposed to heat from the sun or any other source. If the OP was only charging the phone while not exposed to sunlight, and the temperature in the cabin was around 80 degrees, it should not have caused an overheat condition like the one shown. Keep in mind that I lot of people around the world charge and use their phones, regardless of brand & model, when the ambient temperatures are a lot higher than 88-90 degrees F.
