Uhm, they are perfectly within their right to refuse service under AppleCare+ for a jailbroken phone. It's in the terms and conditions you agreed to. In black and white:

Apple strongly cautions against installing any software that hacks iOS. It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of iOS is a violation of the iOS end-user software license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software.

Note, it doesn't say "may deny technical support". It says "may deny service". I.e. all kinds.

And Apple have no obligation whatsoever to provide you with out of warranty service either.

You seem to have a massive chip on your shoulder and a ridiculous sense of self-entitlement. And I don't believe you've been "offered a job" because you "know their policies". That's not how it works. They don't "offer jobs and then turn down at interviews". You apply. They interview. If they like you, they hire you. If they don't - they don't hire you. Simple. Tbh, I doubt someone with the attitude shown in your post would get on very well at Apple ;).

Is that the most updated policy? For some reason I feel like the "no service for a jail broken iPhone" was modified in the last year

How about some cliffs next time brah...

I think it's silly you mentioned the iPhone was jailbroken. You were obviously looking to argue. Perhaps you didn't get a job at the Apple store because you failed a personality assessment. Now you're like the guy who failed the test to become a cop working as a security guard. Gary Coleman is dead, isn't he?

Today I was messing around and jumped on the hood of my friend's car while he was moving slowly in a parking lot. He slammed on his brakes and my phone flew out of my coat pocket, face down onto the asphalt.
So the moral of the story is: know your ****, stay calm, and don't surrender. It paid off for me.

Maybe the moral of the story is don't jump on a moving car! You are lucky you didn't end up face down on the asphalt.

im sorry but you come across as an arrogant **** in this story.

if you "knew", or better yet, interpreted that a hacked operating system agreement only applies to "technical support" and not "hardware service" then why did you scrub the jailbreak all over the genius' face? and then on the managers face?

it sounds to me you knew the jailbreak was going to cause you trouble so you did your homework, found a loophole in the text and then tried to be clever lecturing them on grammar.

everyone who has ever jailbroken and many more know your phone will not get serviced by apple. it has been like this since 2007. its against the TOS. you can get away with it by trying to hide it, by being nice or, apparently, like you did scrubbing technicalities on their faces.

and they didn't service your phone because you are extremely clever - they serviced it to get rid of you because in the grand scheme of things, they prefer to avoid a fussy costumer with an apple care plan than to argue ad-nauseam about the TOS.

Your going to call the OP the arrogant ****? I see that you are blinded by your overwhelming love for Apple, but please get over yourself. Yeah the OP JB his device. Yes Apple has the right the deny software service, but he knew his stuff and has every right to get the screen fix. Explaining there policy to them is not what I call "scrubbing" something in there faces.

Knowing the companies policies is smart. It paid off for the OP. Sorry, but Apple was wrong this time, and the OP was right. I know you hate that to happen to Apple, but everything will be ok.

A little bit rude, but you are right.
The OP was lucky, that's it.
JB is against TOS, and while it has nothing to do with an hardware accidental damage like that, your warranty should be denied.

According with the TOS Apple has the right to deny SERVICE, not only "software service" .... you are wrong.

Sorry, but no. Where does it say they will deny a hardware replacement without unmodified iOS on it? It says replacements are not covered under modified iOS versions, but nothing about hardware. If you can show me in the policy please do.

damn that apple store is tough, although op you should have waited to you got to your computer restore then bring it in regardless of the issue.

my apple store would have replaced it in two seconds lucky they are somewhat jb "friendly".

Here come all the lawyers...

OP while I agree with you that Apple should service your phone, even though it was jailbroken, you are wrong, Apple doesn't have to. You read one set of terms, you agree to many more upon purchase of the phone. Within those conditions there are terms that give Apple the right to refuse service of the phone.

And, even if you want to stick with the agreement you read to Apple (http://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/docs/applecareplus.pdf), it states, "Technical support may include assistance with installation, launch, configuration,
troubleshooting, and recovery (except for data recovery), including storing, retrieving, and managing files; interpreting system error messages; and determining when hardware service is required or ADH coverage may be applicable."

So if technical support includes determining when hardware service is required, and by your admittance in your original post (and also simply by reading the terms), Apple doesn't have to provide technical support to a jailbroken phone, then Apple doesn't even have to look at your phone.

If you were so confident that Apple was bound by the terms to service your phone, you shouldn't have even brought up anything about jailbreaking unless Apple refused to service your phone.

Who really cafés whether he was right or wrong. I agree Apple should allow for hardware repair if any modification was only done to software. I agree that even samsung and other companies should do the same. In the end he got his phone fixed. It's a victory for consumers :)

Just wanted to add my two cents here.

Although, I disagree with Apple TOS in regards to jailbroken iDevices... It is their right to deny service.

I've always had my iDevices jailbroken every since it existed, but if I had to have service on any of my iDevices I'll restore it. Any individual should do research before jailbreaking any iDevices.

If you're nice and pleasant to them, they'll normally help you out (ask you to DFU it and pretend they didn't see it).

If you go in with an attitude like the op's post, then you're going to run into problems.

yeah, I'm taking my jailbroken phone in today because of a broken lock button, and it doesn't charge. while i agree, apple shouldn't be able to do this over a HARDWARE issue, i restored anyways, since both problems CAN be caused by activator.

I work in retail. I know how it is. Don't speculate, you'll just make an ass of yourself.

It's, "assume", not 'speculate'.

I do agree, based strictly on what you have told us, you spent too much time in the Apple store on a simple hardware/screen fix (a fix you already paid for via your Applecare).

Glad it worked out for you.

lol my "love" for apple.

i have been using android for the past year due to my disgust of iOS 7 and the small and low rez screen on the iphone 5/5S...

there is ample proof in my posting history that i do not "love" apple. nor do i hate it i just dislike their recent decisions regarding the iphone.

and another poster brought it to your attention already:

"may deny service". service is anything they decide: from replacing a button to changing the battery to fixing the camera.

Here's the problem. May decide. Not will not work on them, but may not. Also the issue the OP was having had nothing to do with software. The Apple store claiming they could not fix an hardware issue has nothing to do with software.

service is rarely if ever about software is it?

when was the last time you broke iOS?

People may take their doubts or questions about iOS to the apple store but aside from wide-ranging known issues that will be patched by apple it is difficult to take your phone in to get iOS "fixed".

and listen i am not here to debate whether you agree or not. i've jailbroken before, many times. i've always wondered myself what does a broken screen or camera have to do with whatever software i chose to install... but thats not the point.

the point is apple does not like jailbreaking. they DO NOT want you to do it. they threaten you with limited or no service; and they make it clear. so clear in fact that that is what keeps many people from from doing it.

this seems to be going over everyones head, so i'm gonna blow it up.
