Okay all.
So what else would a good ol' pre-order and shipping extravaganza be without a little insight from techdude
I hope all of you have been well, including you GeekLawyer!
Well I preordered on Sept. 1st later in the evening, but at like 1PM PDT. So it seems as the orders between 11-1 PDT were shipping out Sunday night (our time). Mine was shipped out Monday afternoon (our time).
This is my current shipping track:
9/28/2010 3:14:00 PM Departed FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK US
9/28/2010 12:59:00 PM Int'l shipment release ANCHORAGE, AK US
9/28/2010 11:55:00 AM Arrived at FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK US
9/28/2010 5:07:00 PM In transit LANTAU ISLAND, HK
9/28/2010 12:30:00 AM Picked up SHENZHEN, CN
9/28/2010 12:30:00 AM Left FedEx origin facility SHENZHEN, CN
9/27/2010 10:00:08 AM Shipment information sent to FedEx
So basically, pretty much all of our ATVs got put on one of two or three planes that went out of Hong Kong last night, which one of them wasn't scheduled until shortly before it departed (meaning FedEx added it on. They often file the plans a bit earlier than like 1 hour to departure).
Regardless, right now there are 4 aircraft your ATV could be taking if it is heading almost anywhere in the continental US. The links are below. Mine most likely is on teh same flight the times corresponded to when it came over (Fedex 76, the one it took from China to Anchorage). But the times are close with another flight.
FDX74
FDX28
FDX76
FDX94
Okay now with this information, I personally can TELL you that in the IDEAL conditions, these TECHNICALLY could reach us by tomorrow. These flights from Alaska will be able to reach the Memphis hub in time for the nightly sort which begins at about 12AM and then goes until about 7 AM once all flights have arrived/departed WorldShip HQ in Memphis. Anyways, that is the way these flights are designed to work. They bring stuff in time for the sort that night, and then they get put on planes to destination cities, etc. etc.
NOW - just like with the iPad launch Apple may have worked magic with the FedEx (or in taht case UPS) logistics officers to devise a way to hold these for a later date. It is very possible they may be delievered on the 30th and no earlier.
However, those with Oct. 5th delivery dates those MAY be errors, depends on the conditions your packages may have been under when tehy set the date, they may have figured it wouldn't make it to the planes tonight or you may not be in an area that quickly processes and delivers overnight shipment (similar to the iPad / UPS problem).
So in short, I hope we all can feverently refresh flightaware and iship and fedex multiple times throughout the night, enjoy our coffee in the morning, and paste those pre-release papers on your door for your local FedEx guy in the morning, just in case
P.S. Tracking is recommended using iship.com or packagetrackr.com. iShip provides more real time and actual data vs. pacakgetrackr, but packagetrackr has nice notification systems. Also, flightaware info is gathered by looking at flights between airports (VHHH - Hong Kong and PANC - Anchorage, then PANC and KMEM - Memphis). From there it is KMEM to your home town. match the flights with the FedEx dept. scans on your tracking.
Anyways all, I hope you have fun! I won't get mine until I get home from school
