I live in Manhattan in NYC and I have what I would consider great service. Coverage is not terrific in some parts of my apartment (can be expected) but I only get dropped calls maybe once every twenty calls or so. And some of those dropped calls may be on the other end, I really don't know. Other people may think this is unacceptable, but I've lived all over the country and used Verizon in the past and this is much better than what I was getting from them.

But I'm unhappy with AT&T for other reasons: high prices and very, very terrible customer support. I'm looking into an Evo because I always get treated like **** by AT&T.

oddly ive spoken to my friend about sprint and he said the only thing he hates is the bad customer service *shrugs*

That's troubling. I'll have to look more into it, I had initially heard good things from a few friends who use Sprint. Possible that they just never had to deal with customer service very often, though.

i hear a lot of the same grumbling.. people complaining about their AT&T service. i don't ever have problems. 3G is fast, very rarely drop calls.

could be because i live in a heavily populated area (West Palm Beach, FL) and the 3G coverage here is good.

the people who complain are probably those who live in the boonies

it's the iPhone...stop blaming AT&T

With multiple AT&T phones that I own having issues, I'd have to disagree.

Although I did read that the way an iPhone keeps an open state on the switch is causing a lot of issues...perhaps even for the non-iPhone users.

The reason I suggest the iPhone as the culprit is because no other smart phone users complain as a whole...just iPhone users...but I live in one of AT&T's premier cities

Terrible reception

Hi,

I have owned the original Iphone, the Iphone 3G, and now the Iphone 3GS. My reception is terrible. I will go from bars to no bars, from 3g to edge to nothing at all. It is really frustrating. I have so much invested into apple and AT&T between myself my wife and children. I have browsed the internet for all the little fixes. I have tried restoring and resetting network settings, I have tried a new SIM card and I have even tried the scotch tape trick.
Should I go to an Apple retailer and get a replacement or have it repaired. Or, is it that the Apple Iphone gets terrible reception on the AT&T network. If anyone has any advice or additional fixes that may work that I haven't tried, please let me know. Or, should I just replace the phone. Thanks everyone. Look forward to the feedback, before I throw the phone through the wall.

Thanks again

I've been an AT&T Wireless customer since back when they were BellSouth Mobility and then Cingular. I might have maybe one dropped call per year. It's most likely to occur as I'm zipping along the interstate at 70+ MPH and being handed off from one cell to the next or when I'm stranded on a remote desert island.

I own some land in the North Carolina mountains out in the middle of nowhere near a trout river. AT&T's service there is full bars while the locals can't pick up jack squat on Verizon.

I'm from Shelby, NC where this is barely any service much less 3G. I tried to take ATT to Appalachian State in Boone and it got worse... VZW dominates NC and don't get me started on the eastern part of NC. They cover 10% of I-95 in the state of NC. I-95!!! The biggest highway on the east coast. And if you're ever thinking of going to the outer banks elizabeth city, or anywhere northeast NC.. Forget it. You'll ride 45+ mins with "searching for signal" while your VZW friends talk and text nonstop..
