The problem with backing up your current contacts to icloud is that if there is some sort of corruption with 1 contact, it could cause a battery leak because of diagnostic and usage flagging the error...

Basic equivalent is backing a music folder with a virus to icloud, then get a new phone and sync icloud and the virus is back. Only way to get rid of all possible corruptions and leaks is to start over, I understand that, but same time, I don't want to do it either.

I am waiting for 5.0.2 to see what Apple can do for my battery since I can't get over 5 hrs of use and my cousin can reach 8-10 with the same Apps/usage that I do.

I am currently using 5.0.1 and get great standby time, but the usage drain. I took my phone off the charger today and i went from 99 to 98 percent by scrolling through tweets that were already downloaded...and thats after i witnessed it go from 100 to 99, just downloading the updated tweets...

About my 4S - I set it up as a new phone and then restored from a backup from my 3GS for contacts and settings...

'Jot down'?!? Does this in some manner involve pen, pencils, paper and other archaic items that I've heard people mention? .....what the hell are they for, anyway? :p

I don't think so!

Battery Usage

I had 25% battery and 50 min standby time left on 11/14 @ 2221. I left the IP4 on my desk until it got to 0% which was 11/15 @1920. I used it once or twice. I have other phones. In my case, it seems that the measuring device i.e % usage is not very accurate.

In the past, if my % got below 50 %, I started looking for somewhere to charge it back up so as not to be without % when I really needed it.

This was not a scientific approach but, taking almost 24 hours to drain 25% and 50 min of standby time doesn't sound right.

Update @ 50% battery

Well into day 2 and still have half the battery left.

This is a HUGE improvement.

I simply let battery under 10% before I charge. Battery life improved.

lol sorry but this is a waste of time. i feel sorry for anyone that did this process, and witnessed a change that came from it. When you could have easily done the many other suggested fixes, and it would have been similar

The battery drain issue has been around since the 4s was released. If you are at all plugged-in to this problem by watching these forums or a dozen other tech sites you would have tried multiple "fixes" like turning off features, setting up your phone as new or waiting on 5.01.
Some folks have improved or solved the problem without going nuclear but many have not.

Bottom line is that I could not get consistent battery life (similar to the iPhone 4 or what Apple claims you should expect) via so called quick fixes.

This method SOLVED my battery issue after a month of trying everything else.
