never pick a fight with fanboys, they'll wear you down and think they've won with 'logic'.

For those of you having issues with cables:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009SYZ8OC

Kind of pricey for off market but still cheaper than Apple's and stronger.

After my kids ate through their iPad cables in < one year I got these. No problems and it's been a few months now.

Really man, That's your biggest problem?
Let's try ..

Having to still use a computer to do things your phone should already do

1. Flash - come the F on already
2. Can't save attachments, attach attachments, or do anything that has anything to do with a file format - this is straight rediculous.
3. Photo cataloging- ok they kinda fixed that one.

And for good measure I'll throw in a couple more nuances.

3. Battery life- you keep telling me it's getting better each release, but I don't see it.
4. The cables are always taking a crap-I've bought hundreds of dollars worth of charging cables and they all break, I don't care who makes them...now your telling me I can only buy YOUR over priced cables which suck worse than all the rest. Thanks

An your biggest gripe is a case ?

Most of that is absolute rubbish.

1) Flash is obsolete and out of date. Even Adobe doesn't update or support mobile versions of flash. Its all about HTML 5 now which iOS does support and any credible website will support that too.

2) that is certainly true although personally it doesn't bother me.

3) I've never had a problem with battery life on any of my iOS devices and having used the iPhone 5S for a couple of days its no different.

4) You obviously must be buying third party aftermarket cables as the official cables are of very good quality and for the most part should not have any problems. I've had a number of iOS devices and I've never had any problems with the official cables I have used will all of them.

----------

So don't use a case. Scratches are scratches. These devices are meant to be scratched and nicked. And if you're worried about drops/shatters, consider AppleCare+.

Wrong. The devices are not meant to be scratched or nicked. There is absolutely nothing wrong in being concerned about scratches, nicks and other types of damage.

Re Cables, they do crack!

1-3Gs, 4 years & 3 months, 1-ADULT-user, no kids, no pets, dogs, cats, etc., & phone never leaves the air-conditioned house, on 2nd Apple cable now:
--First charging cable outer covering cracked a few inches down from where it plugs into phone. It cracks where the cable has a natural curve as it's hanging below the phone. Taped it for the longest time, but tape wears out & becomes loose & slides. Apply new tape several times over time; & the crack became bigger & bigger eventually, exposing more & more of the wire inside.
--Finally ordered new $30 cable/Apple. Applied tape on the "natural curve" from the get-go hoping to ward off any future cracks.

Ass-u-ming a cracked cable means automatic careless use is typical hardnosed fanboy presumptuousness. It reeks all over this forum.

Thanks for the below tip. Cable-extenders are always also needed as the "come with" Apple cables are always too short.

They don't break at the outlet, they break at the phone, or they don't break anywhere an just stop working.

7 years, 5 iPhones, and 2 iPads later...they all have broken. And I'm the idiot?

Both of my Micro USB cables did the same exact thing on my Galaxy S and Galaxy S II.

It's a bit annoying.

They are so damn PRETTY! Just waaaaay too beautiful to cover up with any case. Cases and covers on most Android phones can actually improve the look of the device, but not so with an Apple product.

I'm using a very minimal transparent TPU case. I've had the phone for almost 3 weeks, and I just hate putting any kind case of my new Space Gray 5s.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record here, but that's why you use a skin and/or a thin case like a Caudabe Veil. It's better than TPU for your purposes because it's thinner.

I tried going naked for about two days and just couldn't do it. The phone is too precious.

I can see how you think the iphone is beautiful, especially compared to android. The difference is night and day......

Geez I remember that like yesterday. I was a VZW customer who wanted the iPhone and had to wait until Feb of 2011 and was stuck with a Droid and Droid X. Thank God those days are gone

Some points I want to point out...

-Flash can still be side loaded on android devices (beleive it or not their ARE some sites out there that still use it)
-Battery life sucks on all smartphones
-I have had 2 (and seen other friends) cables break exactly like the picture above in the course of 6 Years of owning apple devices, considering these cables are at most $3, this is a pretty mute point.

as for OP why not just put a full body skin on your phone?

I bet the games in your NES don't work though.... man that was a pain, blowing on them all the time.

You can get a NES cleaning kit for the cartridges and console. It's pretty much a stick with a wet bud one end and a dry one the other end but the games work without blowing for a good while afterwards.

Yet another candidate for the ol' "Did this really need a thread?" question.

the irony about putting cases on such exquisitely crafted devices (if that weren't ironic enough) is that people go to great lengths to find and pay for a particular iphone colour - thereafter made redundant by the case.

I use to think the same until I had a few Iphone 5's 16GB to 32GB and dented them all in around one month general use.

It made me jealous of peoples phones with cases still perfect.

So it's wise to use a case, keeps the phone better and better resell value. Nothing worse than dented Iphones.

haha, oh man...

I see it way too often. People buy crap aftermarket cables and docks because they want to "save" a few bucks. Then, they end up buying several more because all of them crap out.

So, at the end of the year, they are ~$100 deep in cables, whereas had they bought OEM Apple cable for $30 to begin with, there would be no need to spend more!

In the last 4 years, I owned 4 iPhones. During that time, I owned about 10 charging cables because I like to have them in more than one place. All of them were OEM Apple cables and not a single one of them ever broke.

This. The only Apple cable I've ever had break was the one for my iPod mini (1st gen). It finally gave up the ghost about 6 months ago.

good for you

Oh, I was wondering what your take on the looks of the iPhone was. I hadn't been sleeping well waiting for your opinion. Have you read any good books lately?

I know how you guys feel.... I have been put on restriction for "trolling" because I responded to someone's blog post with a "well yippity dipitty dooooooo" response. IF people are aloud to come on here and post threads like this, why am I not allowed to respond the way I see fit as long as it's not insulting? Oh well. I'm sure my next time out will be an expulsion.

OP, glad you like your phone. I suspect your next thread will be on how ugly your phone is now that your dropped it without a case. Good luck.

They are hit and miss with my family. The chords the kids typically use sometimes end up looking like the picture, I suspect it's because they pull the chord to remove the plug instead of pulling the plug.

I bet the games in your NES don't work though.... man that was a pain, blowing on them all the time.

Little ammonia on a q-tip on the business end of the cartridges (you can even take them apart to make it easier) and you're good to go. You can also replace the female receptor inside the NES and all your games will play awesome in all their pixilated glory. Techmo bowl baby!!! Oh and lets not forge BLADES... OF.... STEEL!!!!

Great stuff. Funny part is my kids see me playing it and laugh... .they don't have a clue how great they have it. Intellivision was my first gaming device.... Now I need to go to ebay and find one that's working ffs!

my biggest and only problem is lack of of a files system (even a single folder) that is accessible by apps, I want to be able to attach a file (not a picture or video) to a reply email.

Thats technically more of a problem with iOS than the iPhone. The iPhone is hardware and iOS is software.

I've probably damaged 3-4 in the past 6 years (combined iPhone/iPad usage among 5 people in my house).

No big. Annoying, though.

Who said anything about scratches? I use a case primarily to give me something to hang on to. The phones are beautiful with all that metal and glass, but that metal and glass and the thinness of the design does not provide the best grip.
...
...
Zagg actually is a bit more "tackier" then a lot of the other skins out there, therefor giving you a bit more grip
The only thing with a clear case is that pocket lint/dirt gets trapped in there, need to take it off and clean it often.

I have had Zagg Invisible Shield full body HD on my black/slate iPhone 5 for a year now, it's great because having it on front and back gives it more grip, yet fingertips still slide nice on front (the grip comes naturally because you are using more pressure holding it)...it doesn't hide how nice it looks and it's nice and thin in my pocket. Only thing with this design is the beveled edges can dent/scratch, but, it's not a big deal. (plus lifetime warranty, including free replacement if you get your iphone repaired/replaced).

An your biggest gripe is a case ?

1. Flash is a dying technology. More and more sites are implementing HTML5. In 2007 this complaint may have held some validity, but honestly, if most free porn sites utilize mobile-friendly HTML5 video players (uh, from what I'm told) it's pretty much becoming the standard.
2. We don't need to do that. Note, I'm not saying YOU don't need to, and I completely respect that need of yours, but most of us don't. Most files we need to email are pictures, PDFs and videos, all of which iOS supports the sharing of. I'm sorry you need a phone that replaces your entire need for computer, but it's not a computer (yeah yeah yeah, technically it is.) It's a phone.
3. Ah, so even when they fix something, you still gotta throw a negative spin in it. "They kinda fixed that one." Let me guess, too little too late, right?

As for battery life, it's par for the course as far as phones go. It could be better, but it also could be a lot worse (especially if it was running Android.)

Your cable complaint is so asinine it completely discredits you as a blind Apple hater. You're saying the iPhone sucks because the third party cables break easily, forcing you to buy Apple's higher quality cables that don't break but cost more? So you don't want to pay for quality. Got it.

Go to bed.

I guess so. I never have a problem and my years and usage are about the same as yours.
