well if it was the new penryn one, then of course. Apple doesn't paint the blackbooks anymore.

But were they ever painted? Not according to this, from July 2006 when the original black Core Duo MacBooks were still the newest ones:
Ok, had to know for sure, here is a nice deep cut inside the battery compartment inside my MacBook, as you can see it's black all the way through. Good news. Seems that brush scratching the matt black finish makes it look like a white scratch. Giving a light scratch a good hard rubb will make it black again.

How do you know your Black Macbook is a she? I have always thought of the Blackbook as being male.

It's just an intuition. ;)

OK- now I'm having a bit of a problem- my screen is going to sleep randomly. If I put the lid down and open it back up it comes back on. In Energy Saver, I've set the display to never sleep already. It's happened a few times and does so when I'm in the middle of typing. It seems like a software glitch of some kind. Anybody have any clues?

Sorry, but it sounds like you people need Kevlar cases.

Portability has risks.

How can an all-aluminium case be less strong then plastic??

Not less strong, just less resilient. The all-aluminum cases tend to dent where the polycarbonate cases tend to flex, give and not dent.

My whitebook had his first fall today. I use it as an alarm clock through insominax and aurora (clamshell mode). This morning the alarm went off as normal so I picked it up from its slot by my bed and turned the alarm off. I then fell back asleep with it open on my bed. Woke up to the sound of it striking the floor and a very bad sound. It turned out that my MB was fine even though it feel with the screen open, (so lucky) but my usb drive that was in it at the time took the brunt of the fall as disintegrated.

off to read The Coolest USB Key Ever! thread

I have dropped my macbook twice... I baby this thing, but also take it everywhere with me.

1. Walking in the hall at school it was on top of my binder... slid right off and hit the floor, sending hairline cracks to the top of the case and messing up my right front corner

2. Getting out of my family's van, after using my macbook to make a powerpoint, put it back in the bag but forgot to zip it... stood up and it went plummeting to the hard concrete, denting my front left corner..
