What makes you so sure I'm going to lose my membership? I didn't know I needed to stop to be searched, I'm just rolling my cart out the door. ;)
How do you plan on convincing them of that? Assuming there is a line, it's blatantly obvious that you need to stop and wait your turn.

You won't look confused; you'll look like a jerk.

There are (at every Costco I have seen) big signs saying "this is how it works". And its in you membership agreement you signed.
If you do shop there, you agree to THEIR terms and conditions, not ones you make up on the fly.

Ya don't like it, don't shop there. Simple.

Hummer, that's the same thing they do at Costco.

Today I went to Costco in Los Angeles. I was next to a lady who had TWO carts, two kids and grandma.

The receipt checking gatekeeper caught them on the way out. It turned out that the lady had bought gift cards (Costco has this deal right now where they sell 2 $25 Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (Starbucks' main competition here in So. Cal) gift cards for $39.99). She had forgotten (or maybe she didn't read the signs or maybe the cashier didn't remind her) to exchange the big plastic clamshell thing for the actual gift cardsat the merchandise cage outside the register area.

She would have been pretty mad when she got home, found out that she didn't have the gift cards, and had to go back to Costco to get them.....

MACDRIVE, I don't mean to be rude or dismissive of your feelings, but you sound like the kind of person who would buy a house and then complain about the Covenents, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&Rs) that you agreed to abide by when you signed the property title agreement. So you move into a nice neighborhood, decide you want to park a big boat on your front lawn, and then scream rightious indignation when your neighbors want to try to stop you. If you signed the title agreement that spells out the CC&Rs, then you are bound by it and shouldn't try to make your neighbors feel guilty by trying to get you to follow it. Same with Costco--you signed an agreement to follow the store "rules" and really have no reasonable basis to bitch about them later. By the way, I went to Costco today, and it took all of about 30 seconds for four full carts ahead of me to be checked through. I suspect that you may be less concerned about the time delay and more concerned about what you consider to be the injustice of the policy.

MACDRIVE, I don't mean to be rude or dismissive of your feelings, but you sound like the kind of person who would. . .

mgguy, I don't mean to be rude or dismissive of your feelings, but you sound like the type of person that would have told the late great Rosa Parks that she needed to sit in the back of the bus because it's the city transit department's policy not to let people of colour sit at the front of the bus.

MACDRIVE, dude, you are blowing this way out of proportion. Somehow I don't see how having to wait a few seconds to get your sales receipt verified equates with Rosa Parks' not being able to get a seat on a bus. After all, you did approach Costco to sign up for membership. I really doubt that Rosa Parks went to the State and signed up for racist treatment. Maybe if you tried to get resolution to your supposed mistreatment like she did hers, you would be getting more sympathy in this forum. You don't seem to want to face up to the fact that you signed up to be part of the Costco program. If you have now seen the light and wish to get this policy changed, you may be more successful if you presented a reasoned argument to those who have the power to change it, rather than just bolting out the door and then getting into an argument about it with the employee at the door, who is relatively powerless and probably cares more about keeping their job than arguing your case to their supervisor.

You are now comparing yourself to Rosa Parks? More and more you are sounding like a whinny &%*^. I'm losing respect for you every time you post.

You are now comparing yourself to Rosa Parks?

Yes I am. Rosa Parks had the courage to stand up to a flawed policy called racism. I like her, am standing up to the flawed policy of a big box super store that treats people like criminals after they've paid for their goods.

More and more you are sounding like a whinny &%*^.

Never whined at all. If you go back to my original post, you'll see that I walked out the door without saying a word.

I'm losing respect for you every time you post.

Like I really give a flying frick what you think about me personally. . .

Comparing yourself to Rosa Parks might just be the most assinine analogy ever used on MR, or any forum for that matter.

She was standing up against a broader social injustice. She and other people of color were being treated as sub-humans, not even second-class citizens.

Your situation is nothing like that which confronted Mz. Rosa Parks.

Do not even attempt to pursue your comparison further.

Alright that does it! If you people want to continue waiting in line at Costco to be searched at the door, so be it. I on the other hand, am not!
