I think CEOs have to be very aggressive with their employees. They have to energize them in order to succeed in the marketplace. Of course, being a total jerk would not thrill me in the least and I think there are better ways to get the job done. But hey, to each his own.

Look at those that wanted to tie their futures to Abramoff (sp?). One news story made me think that I was reading "Glengary Glen Ross"....

personally i don't care about the people who make the products that entertain/ work for me. it's like the dixie chicks thing, she said something political and several bush lovers freaked out and destroyed their CDs. how stupid. did that really change their music any? i don't give two craps about her opinions so long as the products i utilize are still functional.

for the record i abhor country music, i'd rather jam an ice pick in my ear than listen to most of that rubbish... but the comparison worked here. ;)

so Steve might be a total jackass but who really cares? apple is still a good company whether or not he throws temper tantrums.
Welllll... there's a difference between just being a maltempered ass (as Jobs would seem to be, at least some of the time) and expressing a political opinion.

In my own personal opinion, celebrities such as entertainers and high-profile CEOs are better off keeping their politics to themselves... nothing good can come from slamming [insert politician name or political cause here] unless you're trying to be an activist. And once you become an activist, the rules change. The Dixie Chicks seem to have forgotten that much of their fan base is made up of Republicans, so it was a mistake for whichever one said what she did to say it.

oh i definitely think they should keep their political (and or potentially controversial) opinions to themselves... if they want to keep out of the fire that is. there are far too many people who DO care about their opinions. a closed mouth gathers no feet.

i am just totally unconcerned about their opinions on most things. i mean a child molester might not get my $ for their CDs or whatever but basically everything else is fair game... i just can't bring myself to give a crap about their opinions. they have loads of asskissers to worry about that rubbish. :p

While I agree with your general idea, the reality is that we do not have the same political arena of the 50's or 60's. It now takes money to win office or political opinion.

Some celebs are banking on their outspokenness being over looked in the long term at the box office or the stores.

If it bothers you that much, demand that we end lobbying in the US NOW! Vote out ALL that took ANY lobbyist money, even if they donated to charity (after guilty pleas were arranged). Then maybe celebs would not get up on their pulpits to spout their political beliefs.

Save for maybe Tom Cruise, there seems no stopping him. :D

Ok, so Steve Jobs is a complete egotistical jerk. From everything that we know about him, he probably is.

However, Apple's products are great, and I'm buying the products, not Steve.

If I was buying Steve, I'd trade him in for someone nice......probably a girl........and hot.

I don't get what the big deal is. I mean, if he went around shooting puppies that would be one thing. But he's a jack@ss 'cause he doesn't give all his employees foot rubs and ask them to talk about their feelings?

If you want to get to where Jobs is (or any other super successful person) worrying about everybody liking you shouldn't be near the top of your priority list.

Good point, as long as those the Jobs and others like him don't let their poison get to those under those that he berates.
