My dog (well really, my dad's dog) had to be put down today. I don't know the details, but apparently it had something to do with the medication she's on. I wasn't really a fan of this dog, but for some reason this really hit me hard. I guess when a living thing dies, no matter if you like it or not, you really feel it.

Any body else loose a pet before?

Lost my beloved Golden Retriever DJ on 01/19/06. Still hurts.
He was a "rescue", beaten/abused. Took us 9 months to win him over after the abuse, just to have the ability to love and trust again. He was my best friend, and I was so glad God gave him to us for over 5 years. He died from Cancer, and in my arms. We had him a month after diagnosis, and had him put down. Last thing his eyes saw was my smiling face before I lost it. I have been with all my "friends" in their final moments. Least I can do for a life of love they so willingly shared. I will keep you Dad in my prayers.
God Bless

I've deliberately been keeping away from this thread

I get really attached to my pets. Probably because my friends have such busy lives now and my family are all over the place. Even Caroline's back at university a good long train journey away. They're always there for me which is probably why I get attached

My dogs getting on a bit now. She's getting really old, but still has bursts of a younger self. We've had her for 10 years now and has seen me through school, college and even university. Always wanting a walk twice a day :) it'll be really hard when she dies.

I have lost many pets since i was little...the one that upset me the most was a crazy neighbor poisened my familys cat just because it was going though their yard!!! The police were notified....it really upset me and still does because they moved out right after that. There are some sick people out there in the world.:(

I am sorry for your loss, man. What was her name? It is always sad when you lose a loved one, an animal or a friend/family member.

Oh wow that's beautiful.

Our current dog is a rescue dog too. She was abused and ran away from her original owners, the very sight of a rolled up newspaper and hid behind the TV :( took her 4-5 years to get the confidence to even just bark or demand food rather than waiting.

It's disturbing to think what some morons do to animals.

I had to put down my dog Angel a few years back. Liver disease. I held her while she died, and them carried her out to my truck so I could take her home and bury her there.
It so sucks, I cried like a baby.
I feel for you.

Sorry about your dog. Mine died in the past year while it was asleep it is crazy how attached you get to a dog. I miss mine.
