How else am I supposed to sell anything when opening a new account? In that case I'll always have 0 feedback...

Of course, we're not blaming you or anything, just stating reality.

you have to start out with smaller items to gain a reputation of being a good seller.

This is what you need to do. Go sell some other things, get a reputation. Then try to sell your iPhone. Otherwise, sell on Craigslist. You'll get a lot of responses in D/FW.

your best bet is to contact the first bidders from top to bottom and offer them to buy it for their bid price still.
hoping that they haven't already moved on to winning another auction.
(which is probably more probable than not)

and report the one guy who ruined your auction.
give him an unpaid item strike, and open a dispute for not paying.

dont look at feedback and think its not a scam, look at it logically buddy its a scam. I could smell it after i first saw the price. People arent dumb that they would pay above the retail price for a used 3GS.
Dont ship anything, dont do it, just look away and try to setup a local deal

i personally wouldn't bid on anything from a seller with 0 feedback.

This. I started off as a buyer only (in 2003 or so) and then graduated to selling (still with an unfortunate amount of buying...sigh). I started off selling smaller things (hockey cards and stuff like that) and built up a sizable amount of feedback so that when it came time to sell my 2G iPod Touch and my BB Bold, I had no problems with fraudulent buyers.

1300 positive ebay feedback here and I say you are being scammed. Delete the winning bid and go back to one of the people that had a legit bid and give them a second chance offer, that way you can still get paid. Good luck.

EBAY blows!!!!!!!!!

I recently sold my K20D Pentax on ebay, and got a buy it now after 1 hour. Seemed too good to be true. Nigerian scammer. When I relisted it, of course potential buyers were turned off at the fact I was selling something that was just sold. Did not go for going rate, and I am sure thats why. Been on ebay since 1999, with 100% feedback. To top it off, ebay charged me the listing fee, and the final sale fee was over $50.00. Thats ridiculous!

Ebay needs to do a better job of screening buyers and sellers. Oh, and not charge 10% commission!

Well I thought the same thing at first, but they had a ton of great user reviews. I'm obviously not shipping until I get the money though. How long should it take for a response/payment?

That buyer has only bid on 7 things total, all which have taken place in the last hour. It's a scam.

But if you do happen to get payed, that would be the time to get excited :)

Sounds like a hijacked account, to me.

Common sense says this cannot be true. A 3gs phone costs 600 brand new without a contract.
Why in the world would anyone pay twice.
Ebay is not and has not been a safe way to sell anything for a long time now, feedback or not.
This is exactly how people get scammed. So you know, this fake person can now get all your personal information from ebay because you both have now done business.
Contact ebay quickly and let them know what has happened.

Goodluck

I sold something on ebay for the first time in a long time the other day and was shocked with the fees they are charging.

With that and paypal fees, i don't know how people can make a living with ebay stores.

So, just be thankful you don't have to pay the fees on that winning bid.

Everything I ever hear about eBay is all negative.
I've never joined or sold or bought anything because of all the problems I hear. And I also hear about problems from the people when they try to go to eBay about it.

Usually its like this. Seller/buyer got scammed, they go to ebay, replied with a form letter, nothing happens, repeat.
Kind of the same for paypal from what I read.

FWIW, I've never had a single issue with either eBay or PayPal. Granted, I'm not buying/selling daily so my sample size may be too small, but the only time I had even the slightest concern (with a non-ebay transaction...seller wouldn't issue me any tracking info and refused to respond to emails after they'd charged me for the item I bought), I went to PayPal to file a dispute and they were ON IT. Later that afternoon, the seller contacted me and all was well.

I dealt with ebay 1 time and 1 time only when I was attempting to sell a PS3. I ended up selling it on CL, but ended up paying ebay $50 in fees. I always use CL to sale items now. It gets the job done and it's better face to face anyway. I just traded my 4 year year black Macbook for a white 16GB iPhone 3GS last week via CL :D

I'm with Blueline above. I had over $1000 stolen from me to buy a ticket on Turkish Airlines through PayPal. I called Turkish Airlines several times and was treated very badly indeed (not their problem....go away). I called PayPal and they had it fixed and my money back in my account and all fees refunded within 5 days. I am a big fan of PayPal.

e-Bay, on the other hand, is like taking a dip in a cesspool. Last time I listed something I had an idiot buy the item and then cancel their account. Relist and every creep and crank in the world is asking you every stupid scammy question you can think of. Then you get a torrent of spam after your sale is over. I have a separate mail client to handle e-Bay because of all that garbage you get from dealing with them. Yes, I sold my item and to a decent person who left good feedback and the rest of the nicey stuff, but to get there, it was a real trial. Not for the timid or kindly, you have to have a brass spine to list stuff on e-Bay.

oh that sucks. what happened?

Found somebody on craigslist that agreed to buy it for his company. We set up a deal using COD with FedEx. I talked to FedEx CS and they confirmed that the computer wouldn't be released for delivery until a check had been provided.

Turns out it's an elaborate scam where the shipping label indicates that it's a COD but the scammer is able to replace the bar code so it reads as a regular delivery. As soon as I gave the guy shipping confirmation his phone number quit working and my emails started coming back as undeliverable.

I really wish there didn't have to be so much scum on this Earth. I really hope something terrible happens to all these scammers.

I have an idea. Why don't you tell the seller that you will ship the phone and then he can send the money after. He will think, "Wow, this guy is making it really easy." 5 days later he opens up the box and he received a pile of feces!!!
