iPhone 11 Pro My FaceID is unlocking with mask!

I didn't re-register or create an alternative look, and my FaceID, which didn't happen before, is now unlocking even with a mask (coronavirus mask). Sometimes it unlocks on the first try, sometimes it unlocks on the second. Was it a bug or machine learning? Is your FaceID also doing this?

My X won't unlock when wearing a mask at all. I have to enter my passcode to unlock it

Maybe your face is so plain the phone can't tell it apart from the mask.

It happens with me occasionally. Perhaps you're not wearing the mask in a way that covers the bottom of your face or the upper part of your nose?

That's what I'm thinking! Something like apprenticeship or machine learning.

I'm wearing a double layered cotton cloth mask. It's covering my chin up to half my nose.

It just makes quicker way to enter your passcode when wearing a mask.

I have a condition which means I need to cover my eye with a patch for a few hours a day. At first Face ID wouldn't recognise me, then after a while it adapted and now it opens with patch on or off.

I think it does learn.

I did some tests and it seems it recognizes my face in 2 different masks, and failed when my friend tried to unlock my phone in a mask. Really cool, but I wonder how other people can make it learn their face in mask? I didn't do anything special, just was unlocking my phone with a code a lot.

I also unlocked my device several times with the code. I have a high rate of correctness for FaceID wearing a mask when I lift my device up to my face! Holding it further down, it does not unlock the FaceID on the first attempt.

I tried to setup alternative Face ID. Never complete the setup before becos it keeps erroring. Passcode is still easier

I wish mine did... I have to unlock my phone multiple times a day and I work in retail, so I'm stuck in a mask.
First world problems, but it's annoying.
I can't believe how good face recognition works without my mask. It's very impressive.
