My FaceTime is down again

I noticed this on my3g update the other day, when i upgraded it it had all the apps checked, i just left it that way.
I tested FaceTime pretty thoroughly using facebreak this afternoon with no problems. Worked fine in every combination of 3G and wifi calls I could think of. Each call was over 1 min. Of course the 3G calls took longer to connect and had some lag, as 3G coverage is spotty at my place.

I didnt read your post sorry but I read the title. I have an iphone 4 with ios 4.0.1 and I downloaded My3G.
My3G works for all other apps except facetime. I tried several ways to get it to work, without any success. So what I did after hearing comments from people about 3G unrestrictor.
I uninstalled My3G and activated wifi, then played around untill I got my facetime to "activate" by turning phone off then back on until it worked. Once I got my facetime to work, I installed My3G, but disabling "facetime" from it (by that I mean I didnt let my3G control my Mobilephone.app)
I then made sure facetime worked over wifi by calling somone (might have done a restart between installing my3g, and this step) once I made sure it worked, I downloaded the CRACKED version of 3G Unrestrictor
Please don't hate on me, I paid for My3G and It didn't work, I didn't want to risk 3g Unrestrictor and have it not work too. So I downloaded the cracked version to test it first. The only thing 3G unrestrictor does is facetime.
So I have both My3G (pad version) running all my other apps except facetime, and I have 3G unrestrictor (cracked) running only my facetime.
Conclusion: That combination works perfectly and I'm happy with it.
My next step will be to use paypal resolution centre to get my money back from My3G ppl then buy the official version of 3g Unrestrictor.
I hope this helps whoever is looking to make facetime work.

Cool but for some reason I can't get mine to activate at all

So you deleted whatever you save, My3G, 3g unrestrictor and facebreak? Then tried to turn wifi on and activate facetime?
I had to delete whatver i had from the above 3 to get my activation back then did what I mentioned in my previous post.

Are you using an unauthorized carrier? I don't have issues being jailbroken using att and using 3g unrestrictor to make facetime calls.
Not sure, I had the paid version of yourtube2 so I uninstalled it just to try it out.
Still nothing, facetime wont activate.
Im on AT&T in the US. Im just going to wait for the 4.1 JB and then restore/update to 4.1 and jailbreak.
Same thing just happened to me Saturday, I ended up restoring last night
I tried uninstalling a few things but to no avail. Sucked.
True, thats the conclusion I came to also.
Once facetime is screwed up we pretty much need a restore

I struggled a lot about this problem, I mean the FaceTime button going back to Off position even if the SMS was sent ; tried many things since a tenth of days, even tried restore and ended in a restore loop. The only thing that gets me out of it was installing 4.3.3.
So now my iPhone 4 is running iOS 4.3.3, baseband 04.10.01 JB'ed using redsn0w 0.9.6rc16 (the custom 4.3.2 made with Pwnage was the one which sent me to the loop). Last I'm on a legit operator.
Before getting all my .deb back I tried FT and it was working, the button was going On and I succeded in making a call. I restored all my packages and then FaceTime was still working, fine isn't it ? But it was not finished.
I don't know why, certainly because of a reboot, FaceTime was no more working, it was on but impossible to make a call, as soon as I was asking to call the iPhone was telling me "Call failed". I tried to make a call from my Mac to the iPhone and the call was never getting to the phone and the Mac was not even seeing that the call was failing.
I tried to deactivate FT and reactivate it and then the problem was back, the FT button was going back to off. Impossible to get FT on.
Finally the solution or perhaps a clue to your case.
First thing first everything has to do with Mobile Substrate.
To confirm it go to the More button in SBSettings and switch all Mobile Substrate Addons to Off. Then reboot, repsringing is not enough.
Now try to switch FT on, and if it works you got it or your not far from knowing who is the culprit.
You can now switch all the addons back on and it will work but if you wanna know which one is the culprit you have to try and to test rebooting after each attempt.
The faster would be to act using dichotomy, i.e. Off a half On the other, if it still not work, Off half of the ones which were On, if it works.... You got it, narrowing to the culprit you'll know which package is to be removed to get your FT back working.
In my case the culprit was iTracker 1.3.1. And now 3G U works very well, FT over 3G, I made a test during 4min.

Hey Vart... i wanted to thank u cause u were right 100%.... i tried too every hocus pocus on the net (8 months later, today) till i saw ur post!
YES it was mobile substrate who was causing FT fail to activate... NO i didnt check which addon was cause i should make a gazillion reboots and i got bored!
I have the feeling though that in my case was caused by copic 2.0.3 which 9 times out of 10 gives me safe mode after hard reset if i have it on in mobile substrate! I closed all the addons in mobile substrate, reboot, FT on, activation in seconds, addons back on, reboot and FT stayed on and activated! Next time it happens i'll check which addon caused it for sure!

My facetime is pointless, running on cable internet and it freezes all the time. Yet Skype works flawlessly with the same person.
It could be anything.
The other persons connection, slow upload or download speeds on either caller or receiver, router incompatibility, apples FaceTime servers etc...
we both have the same internet ISP (15 down 3 up)
and it works fine when I use an ISP other then my own, yet I run a speedtest on my phone and i'm getting the full speed.
I opened up all the ports to my phone in my router and added it to DMZ
nothing helped!
basically i gave up and just use Skype
I had the same problem, facbreak was the problem, deleted it long ago, but apperently plist was still somewhere. Reinstalled, removed facetime/mobile phone from list and nomproblem afterwards

Did you have facebreak too?
I have it installed on my iphone but didnt cause any problems.
yeah, but these problems happened before the jailbreak was even out.
I installed facebreak to see how it ran on my 3g network...then I realized I have CDMA network and that was a bad idea
