It's unfortunate that I can't say what exactly I'm doing differently, but I don't have any burn-in on my SS AW5 (had it since October last year, AOD enabled the whole time).

I used the Meridian face until last month. Now it's the Infograph.

It won’t affect the trade-in value, Apple doesn’t look for ‘image retention‘ issues. The only thing that the watch has to be considered in terms of trade-in value, is fully functional with power on/off, and no physical damage.

Also, you won’t be able to ‘return your watch’ per se, but they may or may not replace it with a warranty watch depending how severe the ‘burn-in’ is, and if Apple can actually locate the image retention or the issue is minimally invasive, they will just send you watch right back to you with no warranty replacement. The choice is yours.

I spoke to Apple yesterday and sent them a picture of the issue. They said it shouldn’t happen and will repair it under warranty.

Just got to wait for my shipping box. It’s also not difficult to locate the issue as you say. If I pick a different face I can see still see the outlining of the complications from my old one!

One thing that I do is keep the brightness below max unless I know I’m going to be spending a lot of time in bright sunlight. Lower brightness helps prevent burn-in.

Is this related to burn-in?

For anyone who’s interested, I shipped mine off to Apple last week and I’ve just had confirmation to say diagnostics have been completed and a replacement has been shipped to me. Excellent service as always. Less than a week turnaround!
