Hey all, I just bought an iPhone 8! I'm super happy with it, and it works perfectly with my MacBook!
I'm just wondering if you could suggest any essential apps that work between iPhone and Mac?
Or maybe just some fun games or your favourite apps? Suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

The stock Notes app has gotten really good and syncs across iCloud.

1Password (if you have lots of IDs)
Google Photos app is a great secondary backup.
Kindle
PCalc
Lightroom
VSCO
Snapseed
Scanner911
Brainwave Studio
Reddit app
Google Translate
WordBook (XL)
RadarScope if you live where it storms
Quake Watch if you live where it shakes

.. a decent start

Congrats! The biggest benefit with the ecosystem is the built in to the OS's. Things like phone calls on the computer, iMessages everywhere, copy and paste between devices, etc. I don't know that I take advantage of or are even aware of 3rd party apps utilize the cross platforms like that. I got back to using a Mac regularly a year ago but have been on iOS forever. Everything just clicked nicely. Favorite apps? MS Excel, Outlook, haha. JK. I use these for boring stuff mostly so can't help there.

I second the mention of Apple Notes synched via iCloud. Also OverCast for PodCasts - easy to use and syncs between all your devices.

Apollo for reddit
Simplenote for notes
Spark for email
Tapatalk for forum browsing
Quora for knowledge building
Todoist for tasks unless reminders fits the bill.
Apple news for news
Google photos for just in case with pics
1Password

Dropbox/Google Drive/Box/OneDrive/etc. Not a big fan of iCloud file storage. Like to be a little more OS agnostic.

Fantastical for iPhone (or other 3rd party calendar app). As post #2 points out, Apple's stock apps have grown-up over the years. However, at times, the stock apps don't always line-up well between platforms. And calendar/reminders is one place where it's still a bit wonky. For me, not a fan of two separate apps for calendar and reminders. And for the longest time, Apple's stock apps on iOS were dumbed down versions of the Mac's. Examples of features on Mac that I want/need on iOS, but was not present until a year or two ago: assigning timezones to events, custom repeats ("on the third Tuesday of every month..."), more than two alerts for calendar events. Fantastical solved all these issues for me. Apple stock apps now are only missing more than two alerts function, but also still two different apps, so, Fantastical is a keeper for me.

Congratulations on your new iPhone.

One of the biggest things I can suggest for a new iPhone owner, is to not take most of the ranting and raving on the forum too seriously. There are a lot of people here, who live to look for problems with their Apple products. And a lot of it is caused by either reading too much emotional hyperbole drivel, or being an electronic hypochondriac.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! That should keep me busy, haha.
Also, I have no complaints about my phone, so don't worry @BasicGreatGuy!
Anyway, can anyone suggest some decent iOS games? Or maybe just your faves?
Or if you wanna continue to suggest some more apps, you are welcome to as well!

Some good apps for you to work between iPhone and Mac:
PDFExpert - a good PDF editor to fill out forms or edit PDFs.
Gardenscapes - a good game to veg out.
Windscribe VPN - VPN app with 10 GB data per month for free if you verified your register email address.
Yes, I love 1Password too.

Welcome to the dark side! Muhahaha!

My favorite iOS apps are:

- Scannerpro (best scanner app I've used)

- Clear (syncs with the Mac app)

- Office for iOS

- my fitnesspal

- iZip pro ( Good for viewing zip and rar files)

- Parceltrack ( excellent for tracking packages and also has cloud service that keeps a record of your packages)

- Express VPN ( To keep the nosey government out of my business)

- Fantastical ( Gorgeous calendar app)

- Apple notes ( I previously was a one note user, but Apple has made a lot of improvement and I prefer their notes over one note. And it will seemsily sync with your Mac).

Bienvenido to the land of the free and the home of the brave. Here are my picks.

Datavault Password Manager
Slack
Dunkin Donuts
HQ for fun
Word Connect

Forgot to add Hiya to the list: spam/telemarketing call blocker.

Thanks for this one! I didn't know these type of apps existed. I downloaded one called Robokiller that will play recorded messages to waste the telemarketers time, and it records the interchange so you can listen to the mayhem later. It's $3 a month, so I doubt I'll keep using it for long, but it could be fun. :)

I noticed with Hiya it reduced the amount of telemarketers to 1-2 a day. Great app.
