I’m just the opposite. Had the plus phones until the XS. It was just a bit bigger and more hefty to the point where I didn’t like the size anymore. Plus I had the worst connectivity with that phone. Unusable cellular Wi-Fi and even Bluetooth. I returned 2 different phones months apart. It was when they went to Intel modems.

Have you compared in your hand the difference between but the 14 Plus and the 14 Pro Max? I looked up the spec sheet, but that doesn’t always tell the real story of how it feels in your hand.

I have the 14 Pro Max and I’m seriously thinking of going the opposite direction. I recently held a regular iPhone 13 in my hand and was amazed at how light it felt.
I hear you.

I’ve been a devotee of the larger size since the 6+.

I’ve been using a 14 PM since January and honestly, my hands and wrists hurt. It feels just slightly too large and heavy. The 14 Plus is better in both weight and thickness IMO.

Definitely going to downsize with the 15.

I’ve had to buy the iPhone 14 Plus after damaging my 12. Wanted one anyway.

This is my first Plus/larger size.

I don’t think there’s any going back now. I’ve gone back to my 12 a couple of times and the display feels tiny.

You know that leap we had when we had a home button to the first non-button iPhone? Playing with a home button iPhone suddenly felt cheap and small.

It feels like that going to a Plus.

This 14 Plus is so slim, barely heavier than my 12 and certainly fine to carry around in my pocket.

That’s all. Just wanted to say this in case anyone was thinking about upsizing.
Can you type with one hand on that phablet?

Ew.. Hate them.

Look, even my 11 Pro is on the verge on being too large. I want to be able to one-hand it! That's for me half the damn point of a phone else I'd rather use a tablet and get it over with.

In summary: OP is wrong. There is no nuance nor any personal preferences. All obey my take and taste on this subject.

Funny, this is the opposite reaction I have when using my wife’s phone instead of my 13 mini. “This thing is huge and cumbersome, how do you even manage?”

All depends on your likes and needs. I had the 6 and 7 plus and loved the larger screen for when I commuted via transit - watching videos on the go and easy access to work websites.

Today, I have the 14 and I really wish it was the size of the x (5.8" vs 6.2") - hell if they made a Pro model in mini, I'd be the first in line to buy it.

So, it is very dependant on your likes and what you are looking to gain out of it.

I would agree if I used my phone as my "primary browser". Your "primary browser" is your goto device for consuming books, news, email, social media, videos. But for me, that's my iPad. I don't use my iPhone at home really at all. I use my iPad at home constantly as my primary browser. And when I'm mobile, I don't really do any "primary browsing". When I'm mobile, my iPhone serves as a communication and "lookup device". If I need to look something up, my normal sized iPhone is fine.

And if I do go mobile and I expect to want a primary browser, I pack my iPad in a little messenger bag and bring it with me. But that's not usually what I need when I'm out.

So if your iPad is your primary browser, you just want your phone to be as slim and portable as possible.

But yes, if I wasn't all-in on the iPad, and I could only have an iPhone, I'd probably agree and go with the + model.

To each their own. When I got my 13 Pro I felt like the weight was something I could get used to, and after 6 months it turned out I couldn't. I don't need my phone to "remind" me that it's $1000+.

People who are comfortable with larger, heavier devices are clearly going to enjoy the next decade of Apple hardware design. More power to you!

Same. The X/XS was IMO the best sized phone ever made. If they put the same new features into that form-factor I'd pay 1.5x for it.

If fear the day when my 12 mini will die. Then Apple will shoehorn a phablet into my pockets. I have tried the 11 Pro (not even max) and it’s too big for my pocket and hands
You've got one more Mini model to upgrade to, at least.

The thing that holds me back from phablets like the Max/Pro Max devices is not just the portability, but the total loss of one-handed operation. I can reach everything on my 13 Mini while holding it in one hand, and that's a huge benefit to me. I supposed I'd get used to it to some extent, but even a "regular" iPhone 14 feels quite clunky in the hand once you've become accustomed to a Mini.

FWIW, I was super happy to switch from iPhone 11 to 12 mini. I still enjoy mini’s compact size and weight, it is easy to fit into pockets, etc. When I need a bigger screen or split-screen, I use my iPad Air 4 or MBP 13”. When I want things really big, I can plug the MBP into the TV. If I did not have an iPad, however, I would have probably also upsized my iPhone to at least 6.1”.

I felt similarly at first when going from the iPhone 5 to the 6. Wow, a larger display is really great. But it was awkward one-handed, had to use Reachability all the time. (Also, the rounded edges made the phone slippery like a bar of soap.) When the first SE came out, I went back to the smaller size.

I've always used the "regular sized iPhone" having had a 6s, 8, 11 and now a 13. The 11 felt like a big jump at the time but I got used to it quickly, now I keep contemplating if my next iPhone should be a Plus size (for the extra screen real estate and battery life, and probably eliminating the use case for keeping an iPad Mini around) but I worry if it will be too big to be pocketable.

Everyone says that till they go back to a smaller 14/14 pro, best size just like 11” iPad is v 12.9”.
No, not everyone.

I have an HTC Touch Pro from 2009, my first smartphone. I also have an iPhone 3GS, an iPhone 4, an iPhone 4s and an iPhone 5.

If that isn't enough sizewise to attract me back, I don't know what is.

I also have a 6s+, a Pixel 3a XL and my primary phone the 11 Pro Max. Personally, I'd like a phone somewhere between the size of the Max phones and the iPad Mini.

Finally, the Max phones (and even iPads) are way to small to view media on the way I like. That's what I have 30+ inch monitors and a 55" HDTV for. And those are still on the smaller size for my tastes.

So…no. Not everyone.

Way to go. Way to contribute to Apple never doing a small phone ever again.

Kidding 😜

I was just going to post the same. 🙂

For phone communicating I use my 13 Mini…

If I need to torture my poor old eyes by watching movies and stuff on a small screen I use my iPad.

No need to lug about a massive phablet…

Maybe… but… I'm planning on hanging on to my iPhones 13 Mini a few years more.
For me, id rather not carry around 2 devices when 1 "phablet" (like you call it) does the trick.

Having a iPhone Pro Max, an iPad is literally useless...

iPhone Pro Max + Macbook is the way to go for me

Nope, no going back. Even if the regular sized one feels better in the hand, I love me my big screen and will probably never give that up.

The big screen iPhones is like having a mini movie theater in your pocket. The amount of times where I had to use my iPhone to watch a soccer game, or a fight, or some anime show or whatever on youtube, the big screen is incredible paired with the speaker system

I like the smaller iPhones too but the big iPhones are just big enough where it's at the limit of what I want to carry with me everyday. I was once stuck at an airport at the gate for a while due to a delay, I decided to watch a movie and also youtube videos with a Max iPhone. Fantastic.

That's what I said when I went from the regular 7 to the 11 Pro Max. Next I got the 13 Pro Max. And now... the 14 Pro. Yup -- I went back. I traded the extra battery life and gorgeous big screen for more convenient one-handed use.
Same! I much prefer a smaller phone for one-handed use. I got to where I hated the Max and have felt nothing but relief getting a smaller phone again. Also, it's nice not feeling like I'm carrying a toaster in my pocket.

If the Mini had a Pro version, I'd hop on it. I'm over huge screens.
