That's so messed up. I don't know how people who do stuff like this can live with themselves.

$350 was a fair price for the 32GB iPhone 4 just before the iPhone 5 announcement.

the funny thing here is that, it's not even a 32gb. It's 16gb. Haizz I know I shouldnt yell at my friend's face. I'm not the one losing money but I would laugh at myself if I were

Lessons learned ... Sorry :(

Picture of the scammer would be a great sweet revenge in this case.

Make sure you take picture of the seller!

It's too late now haha. But even if you had, what would you do? The police said they wouldnt solve this matter

I'm a 4s owner and I don't even know the difference of 4 and 4s besides Siri and I owned all the iPhone except the 5 what is the diff

The antenna placement is even on 4S. The iPhone 4 has one of the antennas on the top by the headphone jack. The only instance where it would look the same as the 4S would be the Verizon iPhone 4, but then there is no SIM tray present.

Not for your friend ... For the next buyer (if they are really desperate buying stuffs and meeting their sellers thru CL).

I never buy or sell stuffs in CL.

The victim could post the pic of the scammer here, we would know what a scammer looks like LOL.

Thanks! Never new that and I'm a iPhone/apple enthusiast well i like to think I am lol

Bottom line: your friend is a fool and you know what they say about a fool and his money. Knowing that the 4 and 4s look very similar, why would your friend not make it a point to verify that he was getting a 4s and not a 4? Fingerprints? You must be joking.

My friend found a guy selling iPhone 4s on craigslist for $350 and they agreed to meet up and make a transaction
He asked me to go with him and we met the seller yesterday and he gave my friend the iPhone, in box and with all accessories. The phone was indeed new and just has few scratches on the sides.
My friend bought it but then today he called me, saying that the phone is actually an iPhone 4, and it is not worth the price. He looked like zombie this morning when I met him to talked about this situation

What he got from the buyer is the name (probably fake), phone number, email, address (not sure if fake..)
Also the fingerprints on the box, the phone, and the pen to write down that seller's address

He called the police but they said they cannot help w the situation like this.
Do you guys have any suggestion?

Thanks alot

Sorry to hear that maybe you guys can check Craigslist see if he posts again. send him a e mail from a diff account not the one you contacted him with before. set up a time and place to meet call the police before or when he shows up. might be good to print up all the emails from him and your replies including a print out of his posting on Craigslist to show the police. haha I know this sounds odd but maybe if it works he'll be arrested there's a good chance he's still trying to rip people off or you could just ambush him and beat the crap out of him :)

The model number is on the back in the fine print below the word iPhone.
The 4S is Model A1387. The iPhone 4 is either A1332 or A1349.

Did the box say 4s? Seems you guys didn't think ahead of the possibility of it not being an iPhone 4s. I purchased my iPad 3 from Craigslist and the only way I could tell it was a 3 was the retina display. The police won't help in this case, especially since you don't even know where the guy is. Take it as a lesson learned, and don't let it scare you off CL.

yes, the box is of an iPhone 4s 32gb. I know that my friend has already learned his lesson. I also learned a lesson from this.
I just want to help him to find out of there are any solution for this. That's why I post it here and ask you guys

You're missing out on some fantastic deals. I have $20,000+ worth of furniture and goods in my home from Craigslist that I paid under $3000 for. All perfect transactions and with no signs of usage. $4000 brown leather couches for $800. 55" LED Samsung 8000 series TV for $1000. Crate and Barrel dining room set with 6 leather chairs (normally $4000) for $800. Top of the line kegerator for $150, 20" Core2Duo iMacs (one for kitchen, one for office as a secondary) $150 each. Just for some examples.

Also sold my 64GB iPhone 4S for $600 and usually turn a profit on every MBP I sell to purchase a new one.

I'm interpretting this to mean you have the sellers name, phone number, etc. Did you try to contact him and straighten it out?

Guts? why?

I have sold and bought iphones, ipods, mbps and cameras on CL

I have also bought and sold cars and motorcycles via CL

Never a bad experience IF
1) deal with cash
2) meet somewhere close
3) Know what you are buying before you buy it

I had a 4 and it broke and had a new one sent out to me. I knew in a split second that they had sent me a 4S instead of another 4. just saying.

I know what you mean. The Xbox, I met the seller, an old man at his office. The item was unopened and I opened it, and it was intact. The phones i always test out. I meet the sellers at Barnes and noble. The galaxy note I bought a few hours ago. The iPhone I almost paid 200 for it, the seller listed by accident as an iPhone 4s, but I didn't see a sim slot so I knew it was a 4, so I bargained it to 100.
