Well my guess would be because the 4G network is so close to being released across different networks (already is on sprint) that it would be confusing to have an iPhone 4G that couldn't work on the 4G networks

or perhaps iphone 3GC but that just doesnt look or sound right.

I do like the original idea of iphone A4 if they do go with a version of their new chip.

Its a bit confusing... The first iPhone was just the iPhone, the 2nd iPhone was the iPhone 3G, the third iPhone is the iPhone 3GS. But the 3G refers to the network capability not "3rd Generation" so perhaps if there's going to be an improvement in the 4th iPhone then it may be the network... Then my guess for its name would be the iPhone 3G HSDPA or if they improve the wifi then it may be the iPhone 3Gn
