The ONLY thing I want for the new iPhone is for it to be called the "iPhone 5"! None of that "New iPad" bull-excrement. That's the only thing that really matters. If its called the "New iPhone", how will others know that I have a superior phone than they do? That would be unacceptable. If Apple pulls this "New" nonsense on the iPhone, that will be the day I switch to Android.![]()
If they come out with a crappy 3.5" AGAIN and a tweaked-only OS, then the honeymoon is definitely going to be over, and the wolves (press) will smell blood.
(If Apple doesn't increase the screen size) Apple is going to have to do something or the iPhone will go the way of the BlackBerry: become the staunch old uncool phone that less and less people use while technology makes leaps and bounds in newer phones.

Umm...how is that a logical transition? You switched the vertical pixels to horizontal. If Apple continues with their practice of doubling the screen resolution they would go from 960X640 to 1920X1280 pixels, not 1440X960.4 - 4.6 inch 1440x960 IPS display (same transition as from 480x320>960x640)

Gotcha. Sorry, I was only hung up on doubling the screen resolution between consecutive generations. His reasoning is that if you triple 480x320, you get 1440x960 which actually does work because the multiplier is integer.
However if you match the iPhone 4 DPI with that resolution you get a 5.2" phone. That resolution is just too high if you go 4-4.6 inch and I doubt Apple will release a 5"+ phone.
Sorry but Apple is going to go with the "new" concept. Technically it is just called the iPad but we put new to say that it is the new one. Honestly we I think about it I didn't even say which iPhone I had when the iPhone 4 was new. I never did say "I have the iPhone 4." I and just about everyone I knew would say "yea, I have the new iPhone." It makes a lot more sense.
Think about it, it is not called the iMac 10. It is not called the MacBook Pro 10 or w/e. It is just called the iMac or MacBook Pro. We the community just end up calling it the "20xx" iMac or MacBook Pro to tell which one we have. You will do the same thing. "I have the new iPhone." It immediately tells everyone that you have the latest iPhone. If you just said "I had the iPhone 5" that says nothing. What if the people your talking too don't know which is the latest iPhone?
As has been mentioned, 1440x960 is a multiple of 480x320 which are the dimensions iPhone apps are coded for. All developers need to do is give higher resolution content.Umm...how is that a logical transition? You switched the vertical pixels to horizontal. Why is it too high? It won't make anything smaller, just as 480x320>960x640 didn't, it'll just add more detail. Everything will actually become larger as the screen is getting bigger. His reasoning is that if you triple 480x320, you get 1440x960 which actually does work because the multiplier is integer.

This may get me banned, but you are an idiot.Fifth generation iPhone was already released.
If people wanted to start another one of these threads. Moderators should immediately change the title to sixth generation iPhone titles.
Here's a quote from you, January 2011.
Apple went against your advice and released a 4S with the same form factor. But contrary to your opinion, more than a year later from your prediction iPhone is growing fast and no sign of going BlackBerry (yet). In fact they are doing better than ever. (But don't let that stop you from making the same prediction every year, many analysts have been predicting this is the year the Apple bubble bursts for the past 10 years)
You got me there. I underestimated Apple's fans willingness to buy en mass anything Apple puts out, no matter how behind the times it is.
Yeah, I know! I'm just tr-playing! I just hate how in every single website that has iPhone rumors, you always hear "iPhone 5 this... iPhone 5 that...". Its like everyone holds that freaking name on a pedestal. Its like its some god-phone that everyone is waiting for that will never arrive. It sets every one up to have ridiculous expectations when in reality the new iPhone will most likely be a decent to slight upgrade over the iPhone 4S and nothing more. Why? Because Apple has to set you up to upgrade on 2013; They're a business! I love what Apple did with the new iPad's name and I really hope they do the same for the iPhone.
The 4S is hardly behind the times. It's a 3.5 inch smartphone and it's still rocking a better GPU than even the large smartphones on the market today. You got me there. I underestimated Apple's fans willingness to buy en mass anything Apple puts out, no matter how behind the times it is.

Everyone always says bigger screen. Why? I am 6'2" with large hands and I think the 3.5 is perfect unless they can keep the current body size the same and increase to 4". I just recently tried out an HTC One X. It is the best Android phone available, but it is too dang awkward to hold and text. This is the problem with all of the latest and greatest androids. They are simply too big. Any person is comfortable with the iPhone will regret a bigger screen.
I think it's guaranteed as with LTE you'll be able to use it properly. What are the chances of the 5 having a HD front camera? Slim? Close to none?
