i definatley don't see a rear camera on the ipad 2g. A RAM bump to 768mb or even 1024mb is pretty much mandatory with multitasking. A dual core A4 chip and a 1920x1080 would make the iPad a competitor until the iPad 3g comes out. I really want to see a weight decrease and different sizes.Right now it weights between 1.5-1.6lbs (depending on the model). A 1.1-1.2lbs design would help with fatigue greatly. The sizes are something which i really want a choice in. I think apple should go with 3 sizes. a 7in,9.7in and 12in. The last thing i think apple will include in the iPad 2g is an even better battery.

The big leap forward will come from added functionality and software as oppose to a huge leap forward in hardware specs.
I would expect big leaps in hardware until v3, i.e. 4G ipad.

I hope they push battery life up even more to like maybe 12 hours. It would be amazing even though the battery life now is amazing but it is a really good thing about the product. It will get at least 512mb RAM just like the iPhone 4, maybe a bit higher so then we can have threads about how the iPad 2 has 756 mb of RAM which made my iPhone 4 blow up and now unable to use it.

When an application is coded to look the same like an iPhone 3GS app does on the iPhone 4, it needs to be exactly double. If it isn't, you'll find controls unable to be drawn identically.
Take this a basic example, you've got a 1024x768 iPad app with a button which is 201 pixels wide, to scale that to 2048x1536 (double res) it'd have twice those pixels, so that button would be now 402 pixels wide despite it looking the same; doing the same thing on a resolution that has the same aspect ratio but isn't exactly double, say, 2560x1920, which is 2.5x, this'd result in that button being 502.5 pixels, and there's the problem... you can't have half a pixel.
I should clarify, it doesn't have to be double, it must be an increment of the base size. For example, you could do 2x, 3x or 4x, or 5x, just not anywhere in between.
So if Apple does use a retina display for the iPad, the resolution will be 2048x1536 (264 PPI). The next jump would be 3060x2304 (~395 PPI) which is really just too many pixels!
Apple will have FaceTime on the new iPad, this means a front and rear facing camera. Definitely 512MB RAM but hopefully 1GB, particularly the latter if they use a retina display.

I think the iPad would feel really akward with a camera, its so big. Maybe one on the front like a webcam would be cool though.
As much as i hate to say it, I feel the iPad v2 will (apart from Camera/s and ram, and gyro perhaps) just be a tidy upand tweak on the mk1 device.
Knowing Apple, I don't think they see any need for a major overhaul so soon.

Apple don't generally do things for the sake of it, when there is no real competition out there to worry about affecting sales.

I'm still confused on reason behind these threads. Is it just so you can say you were right about your predictions? I mean, it really does no good listing your predictions here. You'd be better off giving these to apple on their feedback site in the form of product improvement. At least then, you'd have a chance at being right.
Apple doesn't reinvent the wheel every year. They have a hit product selling nearly as fast as they can make it, estimated to sell perhaps even 45 million units in 2011. No other competitor even has a tablet in the same universe, sure they said this fall but now they say spring... we will see. Apple is going to take advantage of this to work toward major improvements in the 2012, 3rd generation model, but in the 2nd generation model next year it will be far more modest leveraging cost efficiency by keeping tooling and most equipment parts the same.

2. More cache, from today's 256 mb to the iPhone 4's 512 mb or perhaps even 1 GB.

The high res screens are insane. I can see Apple giving a minor bump (if any at all) but nothing as obscenely over-expected as most replies in this thread.

Facetime is a "show and tell" application, the point of Facetime is for the user to communicate with the person on the "opposite end of the line," and show the other person, their "baby", "wedding dress" or any other things on the Apple adverts.
The rear and front cameras are probably likely. And with them I hope iLife in some form comes to the iPad. iPhoto is kinda there already, but an iMovie would be nice as well.
There are two major possibilities with the next update: Apple is sluggish and does little expanded function until motivated by competition, or Apple will do all the stuff they originally wanted to do to the iPad (but kept prices low) and make the next version a huge step forward.
Most likely the next iPad will be well endowed, but you might find a price increase for all the specials provided.

I'm thinking the most noticable change will be in the industrial design.
A flatter, thinner, lighter model seems most probable. Perhaps a less wide black edge too which would make it a bit smaller without changing the screen size.

Front Facing camera is a pretty solid bet. The ip4 has it and the touch now has one. Apple is promoting FaceTime so there will be a camera.
More ram 512MB,a faster processor maybe more storage. Same screen as the current ipad. I'd be surprised, no shocked to see a retina display.
Maybe the rumored 7" form factor along with the 9.7" or a white face ipad to match the ip4 vaporware version

I don't expect a huge change, just a few incremental improvements.
I expect a small bump in the processor, probably not dual core, but there have been several ARM processor updates since Apple developed the iPad CPU/GPU chip.
I think there is a chance we'll see 512mb of RAM. Individual apps run great in 256mb, but with OS 4.x and up, you'll want a bit more to support multitasking big apps. (Think WeRule, or Atomic Browser with a dozen tabs open)
I don't think we'll see 7" screens. 9.7" is just the right size to use the iPad for getting things done. Big enough to replace a NetBook, small enough to easily carry around the office or toss in a bag for a trip.
I don't think we'll see a screen resolution change. 1024x768 is very practical for both work and watching movies. Plus, it's at the edge of what current super low power 3d graphic accelerators can drive. (sure, you could use a laptop chip, but would you really want a big heatsink or fan in your iPad?). Maybe iPad generation 3 or 4 will bump up the resolution.
That leaves a camera. I think it could go either way for the front facing camera. Facetime on the iPad doesn't make as much sense as it does on a phone. A rear camera might be good for augmented reality stuff - but that's a pretty small niche right now. So, I'm thinking probably not.
I think people like making these threads to set their expectations on what the next iPad might look like. We have probably 6 or 7 months before we find out, so it's fun to guess this far out before any "inside" info leaks out.

1GB would be nice. The more memory the better but I'm guessing 512MB knowing Apple. They seem to march to the beat of their own drum. Although they may go the extra mile when you look at the Tab, Notion ink and PlayBook are bringing or suppose to be bringing.
