Just received my 11” 512GB LTE from B&H. Unfortunately it was bent and went back. It was bent longitudally along the long axis so when I laid it flat, screen down, the middle was raised maybe 1.5-2mm. 1 month in Tim and Apple should have their **** together by now.

Does this seem to be an issue more with the cellular models than the regular wifi ones? My eyesight isnt the best in the world if I were to turn the ipad around I would definitely notice this right?
Yes, a portion of the aluminum body is rippled throughout one side, sometimes around the Apple logo. But you’ll be able to see two bumps near the bottom of the camera lens if it’s rippled.
You’ll need a light source shining on it. If you’re trying to look for it, I advise you to have it posed and angled exactly like mine in the photos.

I had two 12.9-inch iPad Pro units that had a prominent dent near the Apple logo on the backside. I returned those two without a problem. The third unit was perfectly okay.
Well I ended up doing two exchanges in one day, three returns in total.
When I picked up the new iPad Pro I immediately noticed there was a significant dent or scuff in one corner, mild discoloration on the aluminum that wouldn’t wipe off, and the plastic dock for the Apple Pencil was scuffed. I immediately went back to the store and had it swapped. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of it.
With the second unit, an Apple employee decided to give me a student discount (that I didn’t know about) and just gave it to me on a whim, I’m very thankful for that, it was so out of the blue. I didn’t even have the acceptance letter he asked to see, told him I had no proof to show it so I didn’t bother to go forward with the discount, but he gave it to me anyway. Apple is so nice. +++1
Anyway, I took another inspection with the second unit in the car and saw blue goo in the USB-C, not sure if it has always been there for every unit I’ve had, but I’ll ignore that. There’s a black mark on the antenna, I managed to rub most off, but it’s still there... I’ll probably try using a magic eraser to get it off.
The SIM tray is also not flush, but whatever, at least it’s not scuffed... kinda. Something I’ve been noticing with these units is that I can see where they insert the drill to cut the SIM slot (or whatever it is), I can always see a nicked spot or a dot somewhere in the edge. Some have it worse than others.
I just got home and was able to shine light on it, and this unit does indeed have the annoying bulge.
I’ll be trying my best to not give in to temptation and look for any uneven backlighting or uniformity issues. I’m just going to keep it, and I’m going to contact Apple and tell them everything. Hopefully they can do something about it, but I doubt they will. I love this iPad Pro too much.

They nearly all have the bulge bro. I'm sure the ones that don't will develop it at some point. It's just the name of the game with this generation. I think you should take solace in knowing that you can't see it under normal lighting conditions. You need optimal, basically forced conditions to see it. I'm with you. We spoke on reddit, I know the pain. I have a near perfect 11 and even that one has a small dimple in the same spot the others do (no bulging)..
I'm debating between a 12.9 still I have that has the bulge and great uniformity/screen.. if I keep that one I'll throw a skin on it. You could also get the otterbox sym 360 and you can't see the bulge through that.
Yeah, I’m giving up. Mainly because this display is near perfect and I don’t wanna go through another lottery (I ended up testing the backlight). I use the Smart Keyboard Folio, so the bump will remain hidden half the time I use it. Though knowing that the warping is there is an awful feeling. Oh well.
You should keep the 12.9”, personally I like the size more.

I don't want to be dismissive of people's concerns, and I agree that these shouldn't look like this out of the box. But it also seems like a pretty minor cosmetic issue to me, as opposed to the few units I've seen where the entire device is literally bent. I have a 12.9" model on the way and will not be exchanging it if it looks like any of the photos in this thread. 99% of the time it will be in the folio case anyway.
Hi original poster, this is my first time replying to your thread but I’ve been following closely with your experience so far. I thank you for taking time to share with us your experience in each sets. Your level of detail ness is probably higher than your average consumers and is certainly understandable when it comes to high priced goods.
I too have had several sets replaced, both during the 14 day returned period as well as 2 sets after the window ends. If Apple is reading this, I must really applaud this Wonderful company for their excellent customer service which is exactly why many stayed with them all these years.
Here’s my encounter with the sets I previously had, I must admit I don’t seem to get the warped issue or perhaps I didn’t look closely enough. But I encounter the blue goo inside the USB C hole in my one of sets. Also, many sets have the noticeable scuff or scratches that is visible on the pencil magnet area; in particular the grey patch. I hope we are referring to the same spot that is. I have seen many minor scuffs in this area as well as on the antenna lines at the back of the Ipad. Also, in my first few batches, there were dust underneath the display.
In my latest set which i’m Currently typing on, I have visible scratches or scuffs on the pencil magnet area which I mentioned that is within the grey patch. I have decided to accept it and live with it, given everything else is as close as perfect. To original poster, can you confirm if we’re referring to the same spot? I like to know if the scratch is acceptable? Because not every sets have that.
In summary, my experience with the latest iPads have been quite a nightmare but the device itself is amazing. Most of the issues encountered are cosmetic based which isn’t too big a deal. Plus, after going through several, one comes to realise that no product is perfect. It’s a matter of how much you can accept.
Aha thank you. I’m going to see if I can wipe off the gunk inside the USB-C, wouldn’t want that stuff getting all over my peripherals when they get hot!
Yup, we are speaking about the same thing in regards to the Apple Pencil’s charging dock. I’ve seen other users report this concern before too, and my first iPad Pro unit did have this as well. But after garnering other units, there are units such as my current one that don’t have this. With my first unit, it did bother me, but I didn’t know at the time whether I caused it or it came out like that out of the box.
When it comes to display quality, it may not be worth it to swap, I’ve experienced way too many iPads with uneven backlighting. Most of my units were brighter on the top left corner, had a faint bright spot near the center bottom or center top, and corner’s being too dim giving it a vignette-look.
And I have to agree, the only thing I won’t sacrifice is for is the display and any scuffing or scratching.

I'm sure that Apple shareholders are delighted that there are customers out there that will pay nearly $2000 for a tablet and have expectations on manufacturing quality comparable to that of their $330 tablet.
Random update: I was just about to clean the USB-C port, unplugged it from its charger, and saw that the blue goo disappeared, the drip flowing down from the bottom to the side is gone now too, wtf lol
I looked at the cable and no sign of it getting on there.

Had you gone into your iPad settings and turn Blue...gooth off? Sorry I couldn't resist. I'd still make a record with Apple even if the iPad seems normal. Anyone familiar with electronics manufacturing care to take a guess about this goo?
Well that’s something I never considered. Then again, I just sell my device on Kijiji so no issue for me.
Could you share us a pic of you posing your iPad in front of a light source in the same fashion as my photos? I’ve yet to see an iPad Pro without one, but would love to use it as evidence that there are iPads out there with no warpings.

Indeed I myself have personally experience sets with scratches right out of the box most particularly from inside the pencil charging dock grey patch. My previous set before my current one does not have it though.
Reason why I decided to live with it is simply because my replacement set looks better than the previous one in other aspects such as the display edges. On the other hand, I don’t encounter the uneven backlighting issues.
Hence in summery there really isn’t a 100% perfect model. There’s always some imperfections.
I’m interested to know if anyone would have swop out there device over the scratches on the dock if it was them?

It appears that some of these iPads need to visit "Dent Pro," they can remove dents from almost anything.
Do I really need to tell you the answer? I'm sure you're competent enough to come to the conclusion yourself.
I think everyone can agree that nobody wants a defective and flawed device, to say otherwise will just front you as an Apple Apologist. That, or you are careless, and simply show no value to the expense you just made. I'll bet on the latter, but you can give me any excuse you got.
Knowing you can receive something better, but choosing to accept something inferior is just absurd and naive. My old 2015 iPad Pro surpasses this new model in build quality, not expected for the new generation iPad Pro that's supposed to be superior to its predecessors. Unfortunately the build quality isn't enough to outweigh the features.
Love the new iPad Pro for what it is and what it can do. The bumps and build quality? They're still awful, doesn't mean I should ignore it if it's still functional. It's a damn shame really. But knowing what I know now, the warping is inevitable, there's no point in searching for something better. And it doesn't mean I'm excusing Apple for this. But whatever, I’m ready to confront any senseless and rhetorical questions here, if need be.

I think what irritates some people is that some have purchased this new iPad Pro, discovered that it is bowed/bent, decides to keep it in spite of the defect, and then go on to continue to complain about the defect.
If it rises to the level of prolonged complaints it should've risen to the level of returning it. Everyone who "keeps and complains" are simply enabling Apple to not care about build quality. Apple doesn't care if you "keep and complain". The importance factor is that you are keeping it. They've got your money and will continue to get your money regardless of the build quality.
For those people who want to hold Apple's feet to the fire to build higher quality devices, the "keep and complainers" represent the greatest barrier to that happening.
I find it odd the media hasn’t picked up on this and @MacRumors hasn’t given any coverage to it. Normally Apple screwups make the news. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Apple PR machine is leaning or threatening folks.

Indeed! There are several imperfections mostly found in cosmetic side in the new iPad's. These flaws are easily visible with the naked eye and does not require special attention. An example is the scratches found in the Pencil holder grey dock patch. I am interested to know if you have receive one with this flaw, would you bother to have it swop since it is pretty minor.
