I got the message as well but I really don't feel like calling in so I guess I'll just wait. My phone is off right now, I'll turn it back on a bit later.

Soooo, I'm on the phone with ATT..I give her my new sim and IMEI, I'm on MY CELL PHONE and talking to her. She doesn't even input them in, all of the sudden my 3GS is says it's activated.

I have 3G, all bars, and ATT at the top.

...........I'm still talking with her on my old cell phone.

Really strange.

This was AFTER I took my new sim out, the put my new sim in the 3GS. I did this while I was talking to her on the phone.

I called and they made sure my numbers matched, but still no activation. The ATT rep I talked to put me on hold to call Apple, and all they said was basically... wait, they're overloaded and working on. Hard to know what to believe. But she did confirm our numbers all matched.

first time using an iphone here..

am i supposed to activate through itunes? itunes didn't try to activate me and i don't recall seeing anything like the OP's image

am i doing something wrong?

did it recognize the iPhone even? I got a few errors and had to keep unplugging and plugging back in before it prompted the activation.

yeah it recognizes it and i can see all the syncing videos/ringtone tabs etc

but nothing about activation

i rebooted my phone and it says "waiting for activation / dismiss"

is there a way to re-run the itunes initiation?

excellent! keep us posted.

Mine just activated finally! I kept it turned off for a good 15 minutes or so and when I started it back up, it worked!

Well, I think I get everything covered on the AT&T to port my number from my old carrier and everything. But, it won't activate. The AT&T CSR said that someone told him to Restore the iPHone to default and it will download the 3.0 software again and then it should activate.

He said my problem was that I connected it to iTunes before calling AT&T.

Ugh -- someday, I hope I can make a call with this thing.

Honestly what got mine going was leaving the phone ON and taking the sim out, then putting it back in.

Try that everybody.

I was just going to try restoring and starting over! Has this worked for anyone? Can it hurt? Will it put me at the end of the line or something?

Meanwhile, the other phone on our plan activated about ten minutes ago.

restoring right now will keep you updated

Restoring could take 30 minutes to an hour. That's what I heard and it is seeming that way right now. At least 30 minutes.

it's been 5 min and the bar is about half full

assuming the bar goes at constant rate... i'll be done in another 5 min??

it just finished restoring

Activated Win :d

great thread guys, thanks for all the help.
Tried everything recommended, got it activated once I switched SIM cards with my old 2G phone. I had a 3G Sim card, so once I rebooted it worked perfectly. I also do not recommend talking to ATT, they were a total waste.

I have a 1st gen iPhone so I swapped SIM cards. It didn't work, but as soon as i put the new one back in the 3G S it said activated! woot!

swapped sim cards did nothing. I had bars for two seconds, but then it went back to no service.

restoring did nothing.

ATT did nothing

Apple told me to use another computer. Yeah, right. Nothing is wrong with my computer.

now what?
