Found it!

Wow, these stories are so messed up!

Thank God I have a happy ending. I came home on Saturday afternoon to find my iPhone sitting in front of my door. I don't know what happened. I don't know if whoever stole it had a change of heart and brought it back or if UPS really didn't deliver it until Sat (even though they said they delivered it on Friday). I called Sprint and told them someone returned my iPhone, they told me they couldn't activate it because they put restrictions on the phone and they told me they couldn't cancel the replacement shipment because the order has already been processed. So I went online and activated the phone myself. I'm still curious to see if I get another phone, but I'll make sure to tell them to leave it at the UPS store this time!

A beginning of an epilogue... hopefully

A couple of updates after a few more calls to UPS and Apple support... I still haven't gotten my refund yet, but I've been assured today that I will have news about that in the next 24h... I hope I will.

Now the news are that this morning the UPS tracking has finally acknowledged an exception with my package mentioning that an investigation is ongoing. Further more I checked my Apple support profile this morning, where the serial number of the phone shipped to me by Apple has been associated with my account a few days after ordering it, and I noticed that the phone has been activated as of yesterday! Of course I let the Apple representative know that I'm aware of this detail and that the only possible way in which that could have happened is if the phone has been stolen in transit. She acknowledged that this is most probably the case. For reference this was a T-Mobile phone bought full price out of contract and therefore unlocked.

So for anyone out there that happens to go through a similar incident, I hope this description will be useful. Do not assume that your refund is going to come automatically but do call Apple and UPS as many times as needed until they acknowledge the situation and you get your refund or a replacement. I will post an epilogue as soon as I will receive my refund, hopefully soon!

sorry to hear about your case, hope everything works out for you in the end. so was apple or tmobile able to blacklist that stolen phone? i wonder if apple would be able to blacklist at&t, vzw or sprint versions that was bought under contract/upgrade?

UPS Delivered an EMPTY Carton - without my iPhone 6 Plus

I can believe you based on my experience.
Yeah, I ordered an iPhone 6 Plus (with two year contract with my current AT&T provider) from Apple Store website on 13th Sept 2014. The UPS driver, who was over-friendly, at the time of delivery on 10th Oct 2014 made me sign the hand-held gadget to acknowledge receipt of delivery and then handed me the brown carton. The carton was so light that I opened it instantly in the presence of the UPS driver. It was empty - the iPhone 6 Plus product was missing. Didn't allow the UPS driver to depart. I asked him to void the delivery of the package. He first said he didn't know how to void the transaction. I made him call his nearby office to get instruction on voiding the FAKE delivery. He finally voided the delivery transaction and said UPS Security Department would handle it. Called UPS 1800 number and generated a Claim. The UPS tracking website states 'Damage Reported' status with an explanation that the merchandise is missing and that UPS has reached out to the 'sender'. Called Apple and reported the missing merchandise to them. They said they would get in touch with UPS. I have called Apple more than three times in the last two weeks only to hear that I'd receive a 'resolution' email from them. The missing merchandise issue has not been resolved by both UPS and Apple even after two weeks from the date of 'fake' delivery. I reached out to my Credit Card company and disputed the iPhone 6 Plus order transaction and submitted evidences. I am unable to buy another iPhone 6 plus through AT&T since their system says that I have a new iPhone device to be activated. When I web-chatted with an AT&T agent, she said I'd need to wait for re-order only after Apple has resolved the 'missing merchandise' issue. Resolution appears to be elusive.
----------------------------------------

What happened is actually quite unbelievable. As I was waiting for my phone to be delivered on 09/19 I received a call from a Mattress King store nearby letting me know that a package sent to me by Apple was found open inside another open package containing office supplies they just received! I went there immediately and I recovered the package. Sure enough the only things left was the original box and the headphones. Everything else was gone. Please note also that my delivery address is a business address and therefore delivery can never fail if attempted during normal business hours.

I called UPS right away to verify with them the situation of my package and they assured me there was no problem and that the package was on it's way to me! No explanations I provided them could change their statement. For them there was no theft and the package was in process of being delivered to me that same day (09/19/2014)...

Which of course never happened. The "out for delivery" status changed the next day into "destination scan" and the delivery was automatically reported for the next Monday (next business day). I called Apple to explain the situation but they told me that as long as UPS marked the package as being "in transit" I would need to give it one more try and wait till Monday to see if my package was going to be delivered.

Which I did because I had no other choice and obviously no delivery was attempted on Monday either (this being a business address we receive one delivery every business day during the morning). I therefore called UPS again Monday afternoon and they acknowledged to me by phone that the situation of the shipment was unclear and advised me to call Apple support again and ask them to request an investigation. Apple support has finally accepted to launch an investigation into the shipment and also depending on its results to issue a refund.

I'm waiting for that to happen. They assured me that I will have news about the results of their investigation in 24h, which means today. Needless to say this morning the delivery date for my package on UPS website has been reported again for today... as if they wouldn't know by now that they can't find my package in their network anymore! Hopefully this story will help others in similar situations in the future.

PS. Please note that the stolen phone was paid full price (T-Mobile out of contract), which means it's unlocked and can be activated by anyone who wants to do so (I verified that with Apple). Its serial number is still associated with my Apple support profile and doesn't seem to have been activated at this point, but Apple representative told me that because the phone is unlocked they have no way of blocking it or making sure that it can't be activated by anyone else other than me, despite the fact that its serial number is associated with my Apple ID. That would have been different if the phone would have been sold under contract apparently...

This happened to me with an apple order-- but not an iPhone. I ordered a shuffle and it was shipped nearby, stayed there a few days, was shipped to a facility farther away and it zig-zagged back and forth, and then disappeared off the map. I had the tracking number in an app and the damn thing never appeared. The tracking number eventually expired and I had to call apple for a replacement. They had shipped it where it exchanges hands between fedex and USPS and I made sure they didn't ship the replacement the same way. Ugh.

I hope you all get your stuff back :<
