Seriously have you guys never heard of Squaretrade???

They cover everything from WATER damage to running your iPhone over with a Dump truck.

For $99 you can get 2 years of protection. Not to be an ass but you would be pretty stupid not to buy this.

My phone dried out and is working but the screen is dark-sometimes I have to hold a flashlight to the screen to see it. There is just one small water dot on the screen that won't dry out. Doesn't apple know that it's whiteout/paint, whatever? I would try this but I am scared they will find out and keep my phone.

FYI: For those of you who think this is stealing, get a life, Apple is the one who is robbing us blind. They won't repair the phone because it is bought within a year; however, they will sell me a new one for $550. I don't understand why Apple is so afraid of water damage. Kudos to the other person who wrote that Apple will fix all other problems, ie. cracked screen, etc.!!!

Bring your water damaged phone to the Apple Store.

For $199 they will swap it out for a fresh one, it's their "flat rate repair," so there's no need to pay another $550 or resort to white-out... :)

And yes, holy old-thread bump!

My Own Iphone Troubles

Recently I've had my own string of bad luck. First, a person deleted a short video clip from my phone before I was able to sync up with my computer. For the past two months I've attempted to "break" into my phone and even managed to copy my phone onto a Mac. The reason I tell you this is twofold. Maybe someone out there knows what I should do next because I have no idea. The second reason is to emphasize that I have not synced up with my computer since September hoping to retrieve this data. Anyway, this past weekend I dropped my phone into a puddle and it remained to lay there overnight. Too many beers and too many mind erasers were the culprit for this stupidity. Anyway, now instead of losing one video clip, I've lost everything. Now for the repair story.

I removed the sim card tray and placed it along with the phone in a large ziplock baggie with a generous amount of rice. I let this bag sit for a day and a half before I grew impatient and attempted to turn it on. No luck. I then took my phone to a nearby store who claimed that they could fix water damage. I reluctantly handed over my phone to a shady man who said he'd be able to determine if he could fix my phone in 20 minutes. He took my phone into the back room at which point I proceeded to kick myself for handing my phone to a complete stranger without anyway to prove that this guy isn't tearing the guts out for his own agenda and handing me a shell of a phone. Anyway, the man returned and show me my open phone and the even the drops of water still in the phone. He wanted $250 to fix my 32 GB 3GS. I respectfully declined at which point he went to the back room where he put together the phone that was hopefully mine.

Here's the funny thing, my phone turns on now. It originally said Oct 27 and reverted back to the generic Water Droplet Screen. Now its the same screen but has the correct date and time. Also, the touch screen does not work meaning I can't get into my phone to see if it's even mine or if anything can be recovered.

Sorry for the long winded story but I enjoyed reading all of yours so much that I figured I'd share my own. My next move is to throw it back in that bag of rice and wait a few more days. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Especially if you have an idea how to utilize the iphone partition on my Mac.

iphone dropped in water

My iphone dropped in toilet, took it out rinse it quickly and try to dry it by paper towel, cold air from hair dryer and finally buried it inside raw rise per apple support team for three days. No luck. Can't turned it on, when I plug the charger, it displays only the Apple logo nothing else, I can't do anything else. I bought extra warranty from apple under impression anything happen to my phone they will replace it. But when I called them they said not accidental damages. I took it to local apple store, they opened it and closed and gave it back to me with the note that the inside was wet and they can't do anything about. I told the guy to at least take the dump battery out (I hate apple with their iphone that you can't take the battery out in cases like this), the guy told me that sorry we can't do this.
So, to make the story short, any thought what should I do? Right now I buried it back inside the rice hoping someday it works.

Any help, I would greatly appreciated.

So what other company will just give you a new phone for free after you poured water on it? I'm also pretty sure Sony would tell me the exact same thing if I brought in a wet PSP or PS3. Beyond stealing (which isn't what I would call this) what do you think entitles you to free replacements due to your negligence?

Iphone water damage out of warranty repair

i got my iPhone water damage in the bath i got it repaired and back to me in the next day for a good price in www.Uk-Repair.com

:D

Zombie thread wants your brainz!

Seriously, let this thread stay dead. It's so full of wrong information, for example, from Apple's support pages:

For example, an iPhone that has failed due to damage or liquid damage is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. However, certain damage is ineligible for OOW service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications.

The iPhone Must Have - iDry

u can buy an iDry for about 30 bucks on ebay. iPhone can go swimming in up to 5m depth and still live. AWESOME :D

I have NEVER dropped my iPhone in water and the water sensor in the charging port is red. I'm not sure how it was set off as I don't leave my iPhone in the bathroom when I shower and I haven't been to any saunas with it.

I kind of want to take it to the Apple store and see what happens but it's been working fine since I noticed the tripped sensor so I'm not sure if I should bother.

Sorry to hear about that. Pretty frustrating I imagine.

Two things:

I like saying that renters insurance costs me $45 a year for accidental damage so that may be an option for you.

I came across this video today when I was wondering how to replace parts on an iphone. It may be worth checking out. Good luck

need help also!

hello. So yesterday i spill a bit of water on my phone but wiped it out immediately. I didn't thing that anything was wrong until i called someone and I couldn't hear his voice! Then I also noticed that when I tried playing my songs no sound was coming out. I started panicking. However everything else seemed to be working fine. Also when I was receiving a call the phone would ring.

Now I have it in a bag of rice as some websites suggested but now what? My warranty is still valid but many people say that Apple wont replace it if they see that the water indicators are pink (damaged). I try looking inside the iphone to see the color of the indicators but I couldn't see a thing!

Any way is there anything more i can do? Did anyone experience the same thing before?

I've been so stupid to let my iPhone enjoy a bath in my washing machine. After doing the rice trick I still needed to replace my battery before I could use it again.

Hi,

I faced a similar issue this weekend. I left my iphone for charging next to the window. Guess what, the next morning, I saw some droplets of water. It had rained last night. But I was blisfully oblivious to what would hit me. I wiped the water of my screen and the phone seemed alright. That afternoon, I started getting a message : "your iphone is not optimised for this accessory"

It was recurring every 5 minutes. I relized it had something to the iphone being wetted by rain.

I went back home to charge my iphone and it would not charge. I realized I had a bigger problems. After doing research, I did the rice bag trick for 2 days, but it did not help.

I called in Apple Call Center. They let me know that my Hardware Warranty had expired 2 days ago and suggested i visit the Apple Store. I decided to give it a shot, being mentally prepared for the worst.

This morning I visited the store and to my pleasant surprise, they replaced my iphone as well as my Docking Cable free of charge:)

I can't believe my luck, but I have been now converted into a loyal Apple fan:)

Guess, I had to start planning my iPad Purchase:apple:

Hope it works out for you.

WE have the same luck!

About 12 days ago, i was going to a pool party and when i got there i jumped immediatly into the pool. sadly enough, my iphone 3gs was in my pocket. I immediatly took it out and put it on the kitchen table then went swimming. about 5 hours later my friend tried to fix it by taking it apart and put it back together. i tried it today and it would not turn on, it would not even register when it was plugged in. I have now put it in a container of rice hoping that it will save it somehow. I need some advice on what to do with this cuz im pretty upset with this.

ANY IDEAS???

I don't need any lectures on what I should/shouldn't have done to prevent it - it happened - I am hoping that sharing my knowledge and experience will help others - although there is no solution, I hope this post helps dispel any rumors.

Had an 8GB iPhone. Got knocked into a sink full of water. Shook it out, put in front of a fan for several hours, left in a container of rice for 2 days. The phone could receive calls, the Home button worked, it would power off and on, but the touch screen became eratic in a few days and then touchscreen didn't work at all. The indicator at the bottom of the headphone jack was red. I called Apple Care - THEY DO NOT REPAIR WATER DAMAGED PHONES ANY MORE FOR ANY PRICE. They said 'Go buy another one.' I took it to an Apple store - same thing.

So I bought a 16GB iPhone and sent the 8GB into a service called 'RapidRepair'(http://www.rapidrepair.com) I found searching on Google. They charged $10, you ship them the phone, they tell you how much it is to fix or what it is worth salvaged. They contacted me by email until the diagnosis - then they contacted me BY PHONE. They said that the insides were completely corroded and they would give me $25. I told them to send it back.

I got it back and it wouldn't even turn on. I plugged it in to charge - nothing. I decided I would take it apart - I imagined it must look pretty bad inside if it wouldn't even power on now. First thing I noticed when I got it back was that there were pry marks clearly visible on the outside top left corner where the bezel joins the case. Looking closer, it wasn't even completely closed - and I couldn't get it to close. No matter, I was going to take it apart - but that is something to note about their 'repair and diagnostic services'. I opened it with a screw driver - using a lot of force - I'm sure you can do it cleaner, but I figured I didn't have time/energy for eBay, I didn't care about be careful ripping this thing open.

For starters, the 'indicator' on the headphone jack - something I haven't seen mentioned here: It is not accessible from OUTSIDE. This is hard to explain - so let me try and draw a picture for you: imagine a coke can is your headphone jack. Now imagine the bottom of the coke can is clear - you can see through it. Now, imagine you take a white piece of paper and cover half of the bottom. Now imagine you take a white indicator strip and completely cover the bottom. So when you look down, into the can, it looks white. But what you don't know is that the bottom is CLEAR, then there is half a strip of white covering the bottom, then an indicator under that. So if it looks white/red, it didn't get THAT wet inside. If the whole thing looks red/pink, then the indicator soaked through the other white strip which means there was some significant submersion going on. It doesn't matter as I would find out later - red/white, pink/white, red/red - if it is anything but all white - tough luck. So 'sweat dripped down the headphone jack' or 'high humidity' - don't bother. It has to get WET WET WET to reach that indicator.

Now - something else I haven't seen mentioned on here - there is ANOTHER indicator on the inside of the phone. There is a thin metal backing that houses/braces the phone like a plate going almost all the way down the back of the phone above the battery - which is at the bottom. In the middle of this metal plate, stuck on it (so it is between the metal plate and the phone housing) - is ANOTHER small square indicator. So even if you DO try all these crazy ideas to 'paint' your headphone jack bottom white or whatever, as soon as someone at Apple opens it (with the RIGHT tools that don't mar the case, ReadyRepair!) they will see the other indicator, look closer at your fix - and the gig is up. I don't know what they would/could do - just letting you know there is another one inside.

So - now the part that pisses me off. I have this baby cracked open and it is spotless - I mean clean as a whistle. There are several layers of IC boards you need a little screwdriver to unscrew brackets to go from layer to layer - but there is no corrossion - nothing looks out of the ordinary. I pull out my voltage tester - that have needlepoints - and start checking to see if I can pass current through various pieces. I take it out to my workshop and put it under bright light, look at every single board - there is no corrossion. Something is fried - it obviously doesn't work, no doubt about that, but nothing I touch hesitates to pass current. I thought there was too much corrosion for ANY salvage?

Then I see something that REALLY irks me. The black wire going to the battery is broken off its soldering point. I thought maybe when I took it apart I may have done it, but I look closer and there is damage to the black wire in the middle of the wire - the insulation is 'squished'. No way - someone did not... I got a pair of needle-nose pliers and squeezed the wire and looked under my magnifier at the two different marks. Then I got REALLY REALLY mad. Draw your own conclusion to what I saw.

OK. So I am at a party St. Paddy's day, and am sitting in a chair and a staggering guy bumps my girlfriend next to me and she spills just a splash of beer - ok - a decent-sized splash, but not any crazy amount - of her beer on my phone - as I was just texting someone. Yea. Uh-huh. Same CPR routine - the phone works perfectly until it reaches about 75% of battery, then it intermittently powers itself off - you don't realize it until you go to use it. Spent about 2 hours on Apple Care support resetting phone, trying all sorts of things - my indicator is redish/pink - I don't tell them that - and they give me an RMA and send me a box to send them my phone. I get it back 3 days later (today) via FedEx with a nice little note that basically says 'Sorry your phone damage is not covered under our warranty).

So I am back to ANOTHER 8GB today (Apple has made some $$ on me, baby!) - but I have to tell you - if this one gets wet, I am going back to a BlackBerry. Flame-on, I don't care. I'm scared to death of getting this thing anywhere near liquid now - I wipe off every surface I have put it on. My BlackBerry 8700 fell in the toilet and still worked the next day for a year until I went to my 8GB iPhone on launch day last year.

16GB iPhone for sale. It has liquid-damage.

Rapid repair sounds similar to Power On services.

Hi there,

I have an Iphone 3GS that belonged to my mum which she unfortunately dropped down the toilet! No bother she was at the end of her contract anyway so has upgraded to a 4S, however I thought I would see if theres anything I could do to revive it as it seems a waste not to try.

At first the iPhone didn't work at all, however it began to power up and show signs of life.

- I have attempted putting it into DFU mode and successfully restored it via itunes.

- The phone then powered up and took me to the setup menu, which I followed until I got to the part that says connect to itunes.

- When connected there is a message saying "There is a problem with your iPhone - the iphone you connected may be damaged and cannot be activated for service. we recommend you visit your nearest Apple Store for more information"

- Unfortunately my nearest one is London and I dont plan on making a trip there any time soon, and as its well out of warranty I cant imagine having much luck there.

- Does anyone have any advice on how I may get this working again or should I treck to Regent street and try my hand at some serious blagging?

Thanks,
Alex

So my sister dropped her iPhone into water.

Whereas she fortunately found out about the rice bag method by herself and put it in there, she tried turning it on after just a few hours because she thought it was already dry, which of course wasn't the case. I told her to put it back inside. Fast forward a week: Neither pressing the home button nor connecting it to a PC does anything. It boots when connecting it to a power socket, but unfortunately the initial setup screen appears (slide to unlock -> "connect with itunes"). So I can't do anything. Also it turns off and restarts after several minutes, so it seems likely the battery is damaged.

I don't expect it to work again, but I wonder if there is any way to save the data? She hasn't made a backup since weeks and doesn't use iCloud.

I would try iExplorer or a similar tool, but as I said, it seems to not get enough power when connected to a PC..
