maybe i'm being blind, but the example you gave is the only icon that has been changed from a standard/unlocked phone.

As far as I could see it was only the Internet icon that had been changed to garish orange. There are other Orange branded icons on the device but they were actually orange apps rather than standard apps with changed icons.

I see orange have ruined the handset with their custom icons. Why they insist on changing from the stock ones to those horrid orange ones is beyond me.

That orange "Internet" icon for example is horrid. Great pictures tho. :)

I only saw that example as it's the only one visible. On my wife's Galaxy S they had 2 different homescreen launchers (Orange branded/themed and TouchWiz) and a host of other useless apps with low-res icons (Orange Maps, My Orange, Orange App Store). I'm not sure if Orange has done the same to the SGS II but that Orange Internet logo alone is enough to put me off.

Yes you are correct actually, when I first powered on the device it gave me the choice. I chose the default Samsung one without giving it a second thought.

A perfectly honest review has enticed trolls into a cock waiving competition.

Thanks for this thread OP. I'm really looking forward to the next gen phone knowing how well the iPhone 4 is keeping up with the competitors.

Nice review, I couldn't decide which to upgrade to (currently have a Droid X) and I wanted an iPhone since the first one so I think I'm still going to get the iPhone 5 and at least try it out. Everything on iOS is just so much nicer looking to me. I also find a lot of the widgets on Android to be useless (mainly they are there to take up screen space, I don't actually use them) but I guess it all comes down to personal preference in the end. I also like how in iOS 5 the notification center is more interactive than on Android. For example, the weather acts more as a widget rather than just some random text that tells you the temperature and city and the stocks actually scroll across.

The SGS2 is cool and all, but at least my iPhone actualy makes calls.

It's called a smartPHONE people!

Could you please post that galaxy s wallpaper that you have put on your iPhone?

Here you go:

Thanks for the wallpaper, looks great!

I'm going to have to look for the stock ones for Android now.

if you don't like either launcher get "go launcher" from the market. Its pretty slick and there are a couple of companion apps such as go sms (really good) and a dialer. you also don't need root so they are a no brainer to install.

Although my main phone is an iPhone 4, in Korea I'm using a Galaxy S at the moment. Considering getting the SGSII or the HTC Sensation^^

Thanks for your input.

SGS2 makes call too? Your point?

Nice write up, just got me one myself I like the phone, but I don't love it. I miss the apps, the os sure it's "open" a which means a little more customization over stock iOS but I was jailbreaking iOS so that point it kinda moot. The screen is great I love the size but I hate the resolution, and the apps for the most part suck. There are a few better on Android but don't out weigh the quality of iOS apps.

Thanks for posting the wallpaper mate, looks excellent on iPhone. You don't happen to have the version used as the lock screen for the galaxy s II do you?

God the iPhone screen is embarrassingly small for such a high end device.

Sorry, but the iPhone 5 possibly not having a 4"+ screen is the deal breaker for me. No matter how much I love iOS. (and I do)

If they can make the iPhone's screen size larger while still keeping the phone the same size it is now, then great. I certainly don't want a larger phone though. I know this is a forum and I'm supposed to complain about this or that, but I actually like the dimensions of the iPhone the way it is now.

As always, this stuff is so much about personal preference, some of the larger Android phones almost make me feel as if I'm taking a small tablet computer out of my pocket when I go to answer a call. To each their own though.

Completely agree. 4" screen on the current iPhone 4 form factor has been shown by numerous people that it would "work."

And as for the preference thing? Can't agree more. I'm a 6'2 guy so the 4.3" Samsung/Android phones feel perfect for me. Just love my iOS so much. :)

nice review op. I also have both the sgs2 and the iPhone 4. I have been using the sgs2 for the last 5 weeks and am loving it. I can say with absolute conviction that the "SGS2 kills the iPhone on speed!!!"

Well I should expect a NEW device to be faster than a device that is approaching one year old.

If they keep the iPhone roughly the same size while increasing the display size, that would be tremendous! You also bring up a good point about the size of a phone relative to the individual. I can totally see how taller individuals (I'm 6'1 myself) might feel more comfortable with a larger phone. Only time will tell what Apple decides to do, but it sure will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

For me screen size doesn't matter either way. I'm satisfied with the current size of the iP4. As long as Apple does it right, I wouldn't mind if go with a bigger screen. I just refuse to be a victim of "That's bigger so this should be bigger" mentality.

I thought that too until I realised I couldnt reach parts of the screen with my thumb when holding the phone in one hand. It was at that moment (and many more afterwards) that I though "okay I see" and realised I had to reposition the way I held the device to carry on doing what I was trying to do. As I said before, the search icon in the market if you hold the phone in your left hand is a good example of this.

Then it wasnt such a great idea all of a sudden.
