That'd be amusing. A bit more detail - my wife unhooked it one morning and said when she went to listen to it, it was blank. I'm wondering if she did not eject and somehow screwed up the File Allocation Tables. Is this possible?

M MacAnkka macrumors regular Jun 30, 2006 199 0 Finland Apr 20, 2007 #4 It's possible, you could try to format it with Disk Utility (you could also check what Disk Utility says about the iPod and see if there's anything unusual there) before restoring it.
