They need to be careful with this AI crap.. some of us are ex military and are fully willing to introduce the AI to the business end of a sidearm ;)
I seem to recall that recalcitrant AIs could be reprogrammed with a very large ax. Even the threat of such a reprogramming could induce cooperation from an overprotective GPP.

You must have an older Mac or just haven't tested it. Even my 2018 MBP worked this way. Doing shutdown from the Apple menu and then pressing on the trackpad or keyboard would power it on. Only time it was truly ever off was when the battery was fully drained or one of the many times it straight up crashed and powered off.
I think you’re confusing Sleep with Shut Down. If you use Shut Down, pressing a key will not power on the computer, except for the Power key.

Ok, my bad.
But if it powers up, it just takes you to a password screen so pressing on the keys won’t be a problem.

OP:

What you're experiencing is "the way it is".
There is nothing that can change "the way it is" -- it is what it is.

You have to go on with things from that understanding.
If you can't take it, maybe it's time for Windows.

For me it’s more that I’d really prefer if it booted only when I press the power button. Not when I lift the lid, not when I press a random button 🤷‍♂️
In what situation would you open the lid and not power on the device? Lid opening to turn on makes a lot of sense to me. I can understand people disliking key presses to turn the computer on, I respect that.

Did the Microsoft/windows laptop vendors ever fix the annoying battery drain in sleep.

Most of the time it does make sense - you open the lid because you want to use the laptop.

Recently, though, I wanted to replace key caps. I ended up doing that with the keyboard clean tool active. One could also argue that the “boot on keypress” was more of an issue here, but it would have still been useful to not have the laptop boot by opening the lid.

I will admit this is a pretty niche case, too 😅

To clean the keyboard, screen or overall device

Did you not read the original post this thread is about?
I think what people are trying to figure out is how it is a problem if the computer turns on in the few swipes it takes to clean a keyboard?

To put it another way: Aside from “I just don’t want it to”, what is the problem here?

If I fully shut down my M3 MacBook Pro, and then start to clean the keyboard with a damp microfiber cloth, it will boot back up.

I agree, this is very annoying. Only the power button should power on MacBook. Pressing any key on the keyboard when the computer is turned off, will turn the computer back on.

/shrug

If anyone would like instructions on how to clean their MacBook keyboard, despite the fact that it's powered itself on when you touched it, please PM me.

I'll be hosting a seminar to cover this and (in future) other highly complicated Mac ownership subjects.

The price is US$200 per person, but you'll find it wholly worthwhile, and you'll come out of it with a clean keyboard as long as you can follow my instructions.

Please PM me with your interest.

This is a serious post.

thanks

I get your frustration..

I use this tool to clean my keyboard, works like a charm!

Require a password to wake from sleep, and from screensaver; now activate the screensaver.

When you clean, sure, you'll press on keys, but as long as you don't accidentally type in a password, which is incredibly unlikely, you can just keep cleaning.

It'd be easier/quicker to just lock the screen (from the Apple menu), as other people have already pointed out.

I’ve said the same thing several times in this thread and somehow got several angry reactions to it 🤷‍♂️

It seems to just boil down to some people being upset that the computer turns on, despite the fact that this in no way prevents the goal they have of cleaning the keyboard.
