Just wondering when you ordered your macbook...I live in Vancouver...and FEDEX tracking says estimated delivery time would be before 12pm of today (May 31) and I still have not received it...

YEAH typing this post from the macbook!! i wanted this site to be the first one that i visited on my first mac :D so far so good!
shuweiyu16, fedex said it would deliver this by 12pm today also, and my aunt said they delivered at 11:58am, so i guess they were pretty accurate. i think you should check your order status on the apple website and use the tracking thingy. it should tell you if it arrived in vancouver or not. mine said it arrived in vancouve around 5:11am then transited to richmond's fedex station

w00t!

Congrats, enjoy, and don't be afraid to play!

Just remember that things are different in OS/X. Not bad, not good, just different. Embrace the difference, and you'll be more than a happy camper.

pics!

just finished transferring major files to the mb. OSX is a bit different, but easy to get use to. one question, after you downloaded, say firefox, where do u put the files on the desktop? its seems to clutter up the desktop pretty quickly
btw here's some pics i took during the mb opening ceremony:D

oh never mind... the pic thing doesn't seem to work... does anyone know how to post pics?

Host them on a site, like Photobucket. :)

To truly install an app, open the .dmg file, which will mount a lil "chicklet". Open the chicklet, and select the icon of the app. Drag said icon into your Applications folder.

Done. Installed,

Now, clean up the desktop by ejecting the chicklet (drag to trash, or Finder"Eject" or Right click>eject), then trashing the .dmg.

That's it.

BTW, i always thought this install method on the Mac was just terrible. First mount a DMG file, then open it, etc is not at all intuitive. When I got my hands on a mac I couldn't figure out how to install an application and had to ask someone.

Very surprised given mac's reputation of being easy to use...

thanks! now it's a lot more clear! sorry for the dumb questions, but i'm still trying to figure OSX out  it's fun tho ;)

Congrads!

I cant wait to order mine. The first thing I am going to do is replace the HD with a 100gb 7200rpm HD I got from newegg.

Its gonna be Sweet!

installing

Another question about installing: after i deleted the .dmg file and the chicklet, the chicklet reappeared after i started firefox. Every time i delete the chicklet, it just keeps reappearing as soon as i click firefox. same thing w/ the messenger. what do i do to get rid of that thing?

Did you drag the whole chicklet to the apps folder? Sounds like it.

OPEN the chicklet, and drag the firefox icon to your applications folder.

Another hint, from Finder, drag the Applications folder to the RIGHT SIDE of the dividing line in the dock (next to the trash). That way your apps are always handy.

I used a saved dmg for this, so pay no mind to what it actually is. See the CCC on the left side of the finder, with the little "eject" icon next to it? Once you've dragged the app into applications, eject the disk image (the technical name for the chicklet).

Make sure you can run your application from the Applications folder without the disc image showing up on your desktop. If you can, then delete or file the dmg (I tend to save dmgs, as backup).

Yeah- I found that a really weird way of installing something too, but I like it now that I know how to do it ;) .

If anyone here has a greasy black macbook, could you please post a pic of it at its' greasiest? Black just looks so cool, but I've only seen one in a store display where (presumably) no one had touched or used it very much.
Cheers

congrats to all those who are getting a new mac! this thing's fast AND pretty! ;). Enjoy clicking on the fedex site every other second to track the shipment :D

i've seen a few black macbooks around in bestbuy, and i have to say they do look quite greasy. but then again, they probably never clean them

i did this, and somehow whenever i open the application using the icon in the Application folder, it's fine. however if i use the icon on the dock, the disk image shows up on the desktop again . anyone know what's happening?

How did you get the icon on the dock? Not a rhetorical question, but how did you physically get the icon there? What steps did you take?

You should just be able to run the app from the Applications folder and when the icon shows in the Dock, Right click it (CTRL-click, or the two-finger tracpad tap if you've got that set in Keyboard/System Preferences), and "keep in dock". Done. No need to drag/drop anything.

Remember, the right side of the dock is for documents, files, and folders. The left side is for application aliases (Windoze shortcuts).

I have a black MacBook. The black is a flat black so it shows lots of fingerprints and palm prints. They won't show up well in a photo but if you go to an Apple store, you'll see what I mean. I wish they would have gone with a glossy black.

You can get a clear plastic cover for the case, however, I'm thinking of putting a little TurtleWax on mine.

Oh, the power supply is white with off-white cables.

My next MacBook will be white...
