Was it an actual apple store, or one of those clone stores that look just like an apple store?

What did you pay for it? that right there should be proof in the pudding. If you got a great deal, its a fake.

Well, it wasn't an apple store. This was just an electronic market as it was second hand.
Also, I paid about 700$ for it, and it is in excellent condition so it didn't really seem "too good to be true".

Can you make a photo of it and attach it to your next post?

Easy enough to tell, is it a 2.3 or 2.4ghz I5? 2.3 would be early, 2.4 late 2011

Early would have a 320gb HDD versus late having a 500gb.

It can potentially manually be edited to say whatever stats someone wants. The best way is a fresh reinstall of the OS, or perhaps add a Windows Bootcamp partition. See what Windows reports. And to take a step further, run a benchmark.

everything I ordered from Apple thru higher educational sales ships out of South Asia...I miss American Made products. But as fas As i know the only way to make sure American workers get American money right from the customer is to leave tips in cash at the IHOP.

Quality is in the engineering, not necessarily the manufacturing plant. American engineering is why Apple products continue to be top notch. There are stuff that are chinese engineered, that are made in those very same chinese factories, and they are JUNK.

This proves, the engineering is what matters. Also, why should we waste our human brains on manufacturing, when the brain could be the next Steve Jobs. We do all the thinking, let someone else do the making :)...America is not a manufacturing country anymore, we are an engineering country, and our jobs are all in services, not in manufacturing. And before anyone comes to me saying they aren't capable of such great lengths, everyone is, with the right mind and the right attitude. WE can prosper as a country without factory workers, put your brain to work. Put your entrepreneurial spirits in line, and get to work! So before anyone complains about jobs, just keep trying, and you will get there. If everyone in this country would just use their brains instead of brawn, we would be the richest country once again, because...."MATH is POWER"....So even though your Apple products are stamped "made in china"...they are as American made as ever before, as you can surely bet the brains behind the product are right there in Cupertino, California.

Would you rather have it the other way? Where people in China are dreaming up of Apple's new products, and all we do is become robots and make them?

It scares me, when any politician says they are going to create jobs. Creating 1,000 jobs scraping gum off of table bottoms, while getting rid of IT consultants is not exactly what I am looking for.

Hello guys,

I bought a second hand macbook pro 13" i5 from a chinese store...

It works fine and really seems genuine except for 2 really strange things:

-My serial number doesn't seem to be valid when i tried to register it (?????)
-When I look at "About this mac", it says Macbookpro8.1. and in Hardware, it does mention Thunderbolt.
So it seems to be an early 2011 Macbook pro...

BUT the really weird thing is: there is no thunderbolt symbol next to the Mini-display port. It's got the old mini-display symbol...

I've tried to find if first MBP with thunderbolt technology had not changed their symbol yet but apparently they had...

What do you guys think??? Isn't that weird?

It's possible the case was transplanted from another computer. The computer might have been built from scrap parts.

Yes, that's probably the case...
By the way, I had opened another thread on that particular issue, so sorry for having hijacked this thread here!
Please go to the other thread if you still want to comment on this, but I think the mystery has reached a very plausible conclusion.
Thanks to all!

You're correct, but should always boot to third party diagnostics to verify. Techtool, Disc Warrior, ASD, etc via DVD or USB.

You would be able to tell if it was fake or not, trust me.

I have no problem with mine. Oh sure it's fake, but it came in a replica of a Mac box, it's authentic label says 2004 & even though it only runs Tiger, I really don't mind. There's a lot to be said for a good Chinese Fake. Especially since I only paid $3450 & no tax. :)
