I recently downloaded the new Ventura OS and now my MB is so slow, I never had this issue for the 4 years I used Monterey.

I've never done this but I found this really detailed article about downgrading from macOS Ventura

macOS Monterey came out October 25th 2021. The developer betas started in June that year. If you want to revert to what you ran before you went to Ventura, it may not necessarily be Monterey, unless you've made a mistake on the timeframe here

or you could troubleshoot the issue you're having (since almost everyone on the ventura forum is running ventura).

share more info, let the people here help you sort it out; ie what macbook, what exactly is happening... etc...

I have problems with that article when it comes to restoring apps, settings and data.

1. The older macOS may not be able to read newer macOS's TM. Probably OK for Ventura to Monterey, but something older maybe not.
2. Using older Migration Assistant (in older MacOS) will not understand many things in newer (Ventura) ~/Library. Settings and mail in particular.

I doubt that the author has actually done it!

You can. In brief: Enter Recovery, Erase the disk, install Monterey, use Migration Assistant to recover apps, settings and data from the Time Machine backup you made before upgrading. You do have that backup, don't you?

My experience is that you do not need a TM back up made before upgrading. See this post and thread for discussion on this point and the tests I did to confirm.

EDIT...I see you have seen and liked that post! ;)

Since you will eventually have to update, assuming you want to be able to run the latest software and get security updates, it is better to work the issue and find what is causing the problem.

I am a true novice with Mac even though everything I own is apple: 2 MBs, 3 iPhones, 2 iPads, Apple TV. Now that I am retired I only use my MB for internet, safari to specific. Safari is 5 times slower after the Ventura upgrade.

You should work toward diagnosing what's going on with your particular computer. There should be no performance change from Monterey to Ventura with that computer.
Safari being slow makes me think you might have an extension that's doing something unexpected, or perhaps you have an incorrect DNS server set in your network configuration.

For such usage and standard of MBP there should be no performance drop between Monterey and Ventura. I would start by booting in safe mode and seeing if basic use such as safari improves speed. This may narrow down some causes. Presumably you don’t have slow Safari on your other devices?

and no harm in actually calling apple. they can screenshare (with your permission), and/or advise you on what to try, as that should not be happening....

There should not be any slowdown with Ventura over the last OS. The overhead is the same. Only a system that isn’t well managed can slow down suddenly.

My main problem with Ventura is Finder bugs. I double click on a file and Finder tells me it doesn’t exist. I double click again and it opens.

it's a problem that's been discussed a lot here.

not sure (yet) if it's fixed in the current beta. definitely annoying (but not life-threatening). still, hope it's sorted, or will be soon.
