ya unfortunately Macmall only carries the 2.6 with the 7200rpm drive. the 2.5 just has the 5400rpm. Does that really make a big difference in processing speed? Will that add to the performance of an application like Logic Pro when using many plug ins? Problems I encounter is that the audio will either slow down or just stop when too much is going on. Do the increased rpms help with that type of performance?
That's exactly the kind of thing the extra rpms will help. For the ideal setup, you would want external scratch and file discs, with the internal for the OS and apps. But i end up using my MacBook Pro for Final Cut, Peak, and Photoshop on the internal drive all the time, unfortunately. Anyway, the extra rpms will ALWAYS help. The hard drive is the bottle neck in current systems, laptops especially.
so somebody mentioned upgrading that with 3rd party via 7k200 hitachi travelstar , is that possible? I was told that only Ram could be upgraded
It's easy on a MacBook ("user-serviceable"), but unfortunately more difficult on a MacBook Pro. Plus i've heard it voids the warranty on a MacBook Pro (not "user-serviceable"). Can anyone relate an experience with a warranty claim after an updated HDD in a MacBook Pro? I'd be interested to know too!
I noticed a big difference between my 2.4 and 2.6, not sure about the dif between 2.5 and 2.6 (its actually 0.2Ghz difference, not 0.1Ghz).
My jump was pretty significant but i think a 2.5 jump to 2.6 is negligible. If you have the money go for it, it will also have better resale value being a 2.6.
I doubt the resale value will be effected. It's like cars, a well known fact in that world is that any add ons you buy when the car is brand new count for virtually nothing when you come to sell it. I can't see anyone giving more money for 0.1 GHz. Possibly a tenner at a stretch!
Actually, you are wrong on all accounts. In the automotive world, more options does equal a higher resale value, and as far as the MBP statement, .1GHz will bring more money at selling time. It's not simply the .1GHz, it's a combination of the upgrades that particular model includes.
what upgrades does the MBP have from 2.5 to 2.6 besides the processor?
