"Computer" or now Home Sharing within the Catalina TV app is going to test my OCD about Movie and TV Show Cover Art.

Wonder if it'll bug me enough to go through and change the cover art to the "new style rectangle" - it means editing a lot of really good artwork to the smaller style to make it work with the application.

Veronica Mars - both are official purchases, one was moved back on from an external HDD. The other sitting in my account to 'redowload'. All the other are from DVDs I own. Its interesting to see both cover arts displaying.

I quickly cropped the Harry Potter artwork I had and it kinda works as the "new style"

Ouch! That's very OCD ;) There's a guy at my gym who goes into the locker room and closes all of the locker doors every night because of his OCD. It find it super scary!!!!! :)

Since they are low def DVDs maybe add your favourite ones onto your iTunes wishlist and purchase when they go on offer :)

Unless it's upsetting you, don't waste your time cropping the artwork.

I thought I was the only one. My number one pet-peeve is text other than the tile of the movie being on the cover art. This includes, actors, director, reviews from critics, etc. I only have movies I love and watch over and over again in my Library so I do take the time to photoshop some of the them.

Why did Apple have to change the dimensions?
Why won't Apple let use change our iCloud Movies metadata, like iCloud Music?

So a site I have been using for year that pulls artwork directly from iTunes etc, I've just found out launched a different area that pulls the new artwork.

Now there seems to be no consistent sizes from what I've pulled for TV shows so far.

Handmaid's Tale is 1920 × 1080
Big Little Lies is 3840 × 2160
Doctor Who Season 11 - 3840 × 2160 but Christmas Special 2019 is 1712 × 964

No everything has the "rectangular artwork" and some have the "square" in the rectangle. as seen in the screenshot below.

having a lot of issues with wrong cover art myself (picture, language), the fact that some movies fill out the new rectangular shape entirely and some don‘t, adds to my dislike of the new style.
it just seems Apple hasn‘t put much thought into it - it looks half-baked.

Couldn’t agree with you more.

Some countries aren’t complete with the new artwork, after search other store from UK, Australia, Canada managed to get some that similar.

My issues now becomes; do I try and make everything I have look decent for the TV app (rectangle artwork) and look decent for the AppleTV ‘Computer’ app (square artwork) which allows me to access and play the content.

Like you mentioned not much thought into it all.

Let's just say you want to get in the trouble of changing your films' artworks, have you found a way to display the correct artwork for the correct device? For example, Apple TV app (in your Mac) needs this new landscape artwork, while Apple TV Device (in your living room) needs the traditional portrait poster.

Is there a way to put two distinct artworks and let each device know which one to use? Is there a software (like iFlicks or iVI) that can do that?

I've been using iFlicks2 to get my movie metadata and artwork for the movies I burn from my Blu Ray collection. I have mixed feelings about the new rectangular style artwork. I didn't like it at first, as I've always preferred one of the movies original posters. As of now, iFlicks still only gives me the original movie poster (usually more than a handful to choose from) and not any with the new Apple TV dimensions.

I much prefer original cover art. I use tiny media manager to do all that for my 1000 and climbing movies and shows.

Didn't went through all the follow up messages, but you can download new artwork here: https://bendodson.com/projects/itunes-artwork-finder/

I feel the pain. I have over 650 movies in my library, over 500 of them converted from purchased discs. Of course, Apple encouraged the "movie poster" format for movies, and a "tv screen" format for TV shows. Now all of sudden they throw that away. I guess in the world of Tim Cook, nobody every watches movies from "other" sources, only iTunes. Don't know if I'm going to go through the pain to covert all the tall art to wide format. I may just make due with the automatic poster conversion the app provides. God knows, they'll probably change it again, just about the time I get all these movies reformatted art!

This is where I am still having issues. Is there a way for each device to recognize the different artwork?
For example, I am trying to add artwork to Mary Poppins. I have found the artwork here: (Which is a fantastic help btw)

Here is the screenshot:

Marypoppins.png

I download the images and renamed each one to "CoverArt" "PreviewFrame" and so on. But when I add the pictures to the TV app, it only shows the first image in the list on each device. I feel like this is the correct approach but I am missing something. I know this is such a small issue but I really want all of my movies to look consistent.

Any help would be awesome!

Has anyone figured this out yet? Since AppleTV still shows the industry-standard portrait (vertical) artwork, whereas Catalina and iOS' TV apps show the new 16:9 artwork, your perfectly curated collection will only look good on one at a time: iOS/MacOS OR TvOS - which sucks.

Any suggestions?

It looks to me that the direction Apple is going is landscape. The TV app on ATV has it so you'll no doubt see the change in the movies / home sharing soon or at least in tvOS 14 due September. I guess start changing everything over to landscape BUT keep all of your old portrait images as just like fashion, Apple may change their mind again in two years and go back to the old style.

Even when you google search an iTunes films, there's a tv apple.com entry too and yep, it's got the new landscape artwork. I like it though - it's contemporary :)

Yeah I have a feeling you're right - I'm just going to let iFlicks 3 embed landscape art, going forward. In the meantime, I'll avoid using homesharing on the AppleTV and use inFuse instead. I keep my media library on my NAS, and run a Plex server on it which references those folders so I guess I can just stick to that, until Apple finally updates TvOS.

I can see Apple's logic in it.
Last night, I google searched the amazing A24 film 'The Last Black Man in San Francisco'. I was able to find it listed as a tv.apple.com entry and my word the UI layout on the iPhone X was absolutely superb. The seamless scrolling was a dream. Everything was fluid and the landscape images worked really well.

The gotta admit, the Apple TV just keeps on evolving year after year. It's very refreshing. AND very refreshing to see the many 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos titles now available along with those on AppleTV+.
Exciting times!

I know where they assuming that they are following the same logic, Album artworks once where located I'm the main music folder in a file called "music library. that was before Catalina. Now they have been moved to ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.APMArtworkAgent/Data/Documents (library is an hidden folder). I am sure that TV show Cover Art are in the Containers folder. You need to look there.

FYI, on my MBP files & directories are not hidden. Here is the path:
MacBook Pro (mid 2015) macOS Catalina Version 10.15.4

Macintosh HD/Users/user_name/Library/Containers/com.apple.AMPArtworkAgent/Data/Documents/artwork

The artwork folder appears to have images for both music & movies. It also appears to be cumulative (e.g. new images are added but old never disappear?) There are also, for some reason (probably re-downloads) multiple copies of many images. My artwork folder contains over 1,100 images but my library is in the area of 500 plus.
