I call BS that you took the time to shake 140 different iPhones violently in apple stores to hear the rattle. Did the Apple employees not wonder what the heck you were doing? I'm sure they didn't say sure we will open 140 sealed iPhones for you to shake so I'm assuming you shook display models. All of the 4 iPhones I mentioned have had no issues whatsoever so I'm not concerned at all. Also I still have my 4s and my mom, friend, and girl friend have their 5's still. Tonight we tested them too, guess what? No rattle! And all those devices lasted us as long as we needed/wanted them to with no warranty exchanges at all. The rattle issue might be common but I do not believe it to be the majority of iPhones. I instead think it's overly exaggerated just like any issue a few people ever have with Apple products. 10% have the problem and they become EXTREMELY vocal and extremely upset causing everyone else to think it's a problem with all the said devices.
First of all: calm down.
You don't know me, and you can keep your "BS calling" to yourself, newbie.

I test exactly 130-140 iPhones displayed in 4 different Apple Stores and 2 Apple Official Retailers, in a period of about 3 weeks.
Time needed ? Just a few minutes per shop. Easy.

Shake violently ? Not at all. It takes just a little shaking to hear the rattle, if you know what to hear.
And YES, in three different stores an Apple employee asked me what I was doing, very politely. And I explained in the same polite way.
They did know the issue, and they told me it isn't an issue but a normal behavior. One Genius showed me his personal iPhone 5S with the same rattle of mine, and we laugh together.
He said it's very common in every iPhone 5S, not in previous version of the iPhone.

I'm not upset at all, I'm keeping mine and it's not an issue for me.
Actually in the last Apple Store I went, the genius told me that the rattle is caused by a slightly different design in the power button, to avoid the defect a lot of iPhone 5 had (locked button).

----------

No rattles in my 5s. In fact no one I know who has an iPhone has a rattle.

It's very subtle .... Before to know it I was thinking mine was "rattle free", but now I know how to hear it.

----------

if you do not hear the rattle in the camera then something is not right. The rattle is from the auto focus and it should be there.

I'm still convinced it's something under the power button and not the lens ...
And the Genius agreed with me.
