This happens to all men as they get older. You'll get used to it.

What? Oh, he was talking about a computer? Oh. Err... ;)

Trying to scare the young ones ? Jeez I guess I just have to hope I have serious game when I'm older! Er uhm I mean a job good enough to buy the best MacBook available that's what I was implying /dripping sarcasm;):D

I'm a new Mac user. I just bought a new MacBook Pro 13.3 about 3 weeks ago. I love it! The computer itself is very nice, I love the aluminum body and the screen looks fantastic. One of my favorite aspects is the smoothness of the look and feel of the operating system. The way the windows open and close, move around, and fade in and fade out. I enjoy using spaces. Also, some of the other keyboard shortcuts and Expose really make using a Mac a true joy.

So why did it ruin the computing world around me? Well, as my Mac is at home I'm forced to use the Windows based PC machines all around me and at work. I didn't anticipate this happening. I was at work yesterday and I usually use the computer during my break. However, I didn't want to use it, I wanted to use "my" computer, my Mac! The thought of using the Windows machine after having experienced the joy of my Mac just didn't appeal to me the way it used to. I felt somehow disappointed, that I was "stepping down" to use the Windows machine. As if to use a Windows machine, I was lowering my standards.

Anyway, that's how I felt. I really "enjoy" using the Mac. It's been a very pleasant experience thus far!

Spaces & Expose is nothing special. You can also do that on Linux.

+1 on the trackpad - I can't even count how many times I've tried to two-finger-click on PC laptops.

Horizontal scroll in the trackpad / mouse - not important for web surfing, but drives me batty every time I'm helping out a PC DAW user and want to scoot the timeline around. Not a Mac-only thing exactly, but most PCs don't have a mouse that's capable.

Quicksilver - once again, there are similar things on the Windows side, but they aren't widely installed.

I hear ya. It made me pretty much abandon my quad PC. Now I don't know what to do with it. If I sell it, I'm gonna get lowballed and have to take like 300 for it. If I keep it, I can try to turn in into a Hackintosh, but I really don't want the headache. I should just get what i can for it and take the money and run.

Is it really that hard to one-finger-click on a PC laptop? You just go <DOINK> with one finger. It actually requires less effort than a two-finger-click.

Sorry. I'm pretty bored. Truth though.

I don't own a macbook pro YET but I already hold a grudge against Windows..all the stuff it puts me through on a weekly basis..AAH!

two finger tap on a large, smooth, glass pad to bring up a context menu beats shifting your hand to press a cheap plastic right clicky thing at the bottom of the worthless trackpad, anytime, anywhere

ahh me too. i am an equal user, mac nad pc. i use PC more though, as i am a PC person, but i still love my mac.

funny story.
we have brand new lenovo netbooks at school so its always a rush to get them (im in HS). So just yesterday we go to the library to use hte laptops, and i grab a netbook. it was a speedy little device, howeverrr i kept trying to scroll using two fingers and swiping with three fingers to go back on the browser.. lol.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8C148)

Apple has my computer right now (getting some new parts) and both my parents and desktop and laptop r utter garbage. The desktop has a 2.93 ghz single core CPU and 1 gb ram and the laptop is a compaq with a 1.5 ghz CPU and 2 gb ram (not as bad as the desktop). I can't stand using them. I use my phone to do everything. I did a speed test just to see which laptop my Mac or the compaq could open a word document and print it just to prove to my parents that my Mac was faster. Needless to say my Mac was done before the compaq was even done loading startup junk. My parents r now saving for a mbp and ditching both pcs.

There is much truth to the old cliche' ... Once with a Mac you never (want to) go back :D

Moved to Mac early 2010. Used my brothers PC laptop at Christmas and the trackpad made me crazy.

So true. Went from an imac to mb to ipad. Mac spoils me.
The track pad, spaces, expose are neat, it really brings efficiency. :D

I have to say this. I only use Windows at work and my computer there is a pretty new Dell laptop. I don't think highly of Dell, but this laptop is actually nice. First thing that got my attention -- a back lit keyboard. This laptop is black, so it really looks nice. Also, once you have used a back lit keyboard, you cannot go back (easily). Secondly, I was surprised when, in my habit, I used 2 fingers to scroll... and it scrolled. Granted, it's choppy, but I was impressed it existed. There... something nice to say, for once, for a Wintel laptop (from me).

I find that Im able to use both PC's and Macs just fine. Ive been a lifelong Windows user (thats not going to change) and just recently bought a friends 2.13ghz 15" MBP 1.1 as an introduction to OSX.

For me each of my machines fills a different role and if trying to use any one of them in place of another leaves me unsatisfied.

I use my main PC for gaming and photo editing. While my MBP can do some photo editing its not as fast and the screen isnt as good as my dedicated monitors.

My Asus 1015PE Netbook was purchased specifically for tuning my car. Its small enough that I can keep it installed for datalogging sessions and I dont care about getting it greasy or scratched. Its too small to lay on the couch and read the web, play games or edit photos but it serves its role beautifully.

My MBP is mostly used for internet browsing as I get used to the interface. I absolutely love the keyboard as well as size. There are several things about it that set it above and beyond most laptops on the market. I find that I use my MBP for editing my Lightroom 3 catalog, metatagging and keywording photos while editing on my main PC.

While I love my MBP I would never own an iMac unless it was a gift. I feel that Apple makes superior mobile devices and subpar desktop devices for my needs especially given the price point. Much of my curiosity about OSX came from the purchase of my iPhone4... Its also the reason Im looking forward to the iPad2 and I bought my wife an 4th gen Touch.

I totally agree. I was at school yesterday and it took me over 30 minutes of sheer frustration with our computers (Windows XP), trying to convert a certain file into PDF form. On my mac it takes less than 5 seconds! I ended up having to upload the file to googledocs, then download it as a PDF. I almost always have my UMB with me, but had only my iPad at the time.

Also, I kept trying to use Exposé and Spaces on the PC. I LOVE MY MAC!!!

One example? Is it Windows 3.2?

If it takes 5 seconds on Mac, it usually takes 3 seconds on PC because those are in general more powerful. If you do not know how to use a PC, blame yourself not the OS. You do know that there is much more software for PC than for Mac, right?

Did I say ANYTHING about power or software? FYI, I know how to use a PC, I only switched to Mac 4 yrs ago.

Instead of feeding the Troll, I'll just point out that it's about PERSONAL PREFERENCE. …and you're on a Mac forum, just so you know.

Can't agree more. All due to personal preference. I'm using 3 different machines at work for software development. One Windows PC, one Linux PC (Ubuntu 10.4) and a MBP 15'. They are all fine to me.

My wife does not even want to use my MBP after tried several times. Our Windows laptops are her friends. :)

I really dont mind using windows, what kills me is those teeney tiny gesture-less trackpads.

It seems like the trackpad on the Mac is a huge advantage and a major disadvantage for the PC, based on the posts. Do any of the PC vendors even know this? It seems like an easy upgrade to eliminate a competitive advantage that seems to matter to people!

I too will add my vote to the "Mac Trackpad > non-Mac Trackpad" camp.

I get so used to the easy functionality and use it creates, I find myself instinctively doing the gestures or clicking on non-Mac trackpads and being quite frustrated.

Having used XP very extensively in the past, I know how to use it well - the Mac OS is just more enjoyable to use. There are certain things windows does better, and certain things OS X does better. User enjoyment and overall feel points go to the Mac.

Thankfully my work lets me bring my MBP and now MBA to use as my work computer, but there are still a few annoying things which I cannot do except through my work laptop. It's a crappy Dell running XP and I just can't believe after Apple has built their computers with great keyboards and trackpads for years now why other companies just don't get it.

It's so much easier to get things accomplished on my almost 5 year old MBP than my work laptop.

Had to do some things on my dads HP...when I used it wasn't bad other than burning my thighs (I have marks).... until I got my MacBook..... The keys are too close together, look like the same keys I had on my first computer, and the track pad felt like a small useless non-multitouch pad of immobile sandpaper that was set out two rub off the skin on my thumb during long hours.

I'm kind of ashamed to admit I have same feelings as the OP. My GF was in the market for a new computer and she asked for my advice. I begged and pleaded with her to get a MBA. It's the perfect computer for her needs. I took her to BB, offered to buy it on the spot but she refused. Yesterday she ordered a Dell online and I almost cried. IDK why she wants to stick with a Windows PC. She curses every night about her desktop and uses my MBP while it reboots, unfreezes, etc. I can't explain it. I'll say this, she better not ask me one question about it because I told her not to get it. I know a big argument is coming. Women!

I hear ya. I use my MBP for personal use, for academic use, and for the office. I have a Windows desktop and laptop to use for work, and to be honest I do not remember what OS is on them it has been so long since I have used them. I use my personal machine for everything and even though I could easily get another MBP for use in academia or the office, I have declined as I really, really like having everything on 1 system because that means wherever I go, I ALWAYS have access to anything I could ever need. Also, my MBP is more than fast enough for anything I am using now or in the foreseeable future and it runs as good as they day I took it out of the unusually small box, so why change it?

I am in the same situation, I work on Windows machines for my job. It makes me appreciate my Mac more.
