Most PC vendors aren't offering any of those things in 1" thin notebooks, assuming they even MAKE 1" thin notebooks.

Like it or not Apple has decided form factor matters. Judging by the fact that their sales are growing far faster than the rest of the PC industry, it seems more and more consumers are making the same decision.

Agreed. And I applaud Apple's success with mainstream consumers. But, it confirms my suspicion that Apple is no longer interested in producing a PRO oriented laptop with power and features content creators need. But seeing how this is the MacBook PRO we're talking about, I don't think content creators, who make up a large segment of this market, would a have fainted at the prospect of a PRO laptop in a 1/2 inch thicker chassis.

So, instead of a workstion class MPB, I'll get a Mac Pro and hope for better luck at the next MPB upgrade. It's all good, and I hope everybody enjoys their new MB & MBPs. :apple:

temps...

I ran iTunes visualizer as well as opened about 10 apps. After about 10 minutes i got the following temps (in degrees F).

Question: I get a strange electric buzzing sound coming from the back center of the computer while running iTunes visualizer & when I scroll a web page (but less so)... What's that about?

What do you get at idle?

I just ran Geekbench on my 2.2 MacBook and came up with a 2950 score. this is only like 100 points less than the OP's score.

ummm, would someone wanna explain to me why these "new and improved" MBPs aren't that much farther in benchmark score than my wheenie 2.2 MB?

What type of Apps will i see benefit from going from 2.5 GHz to the 2.6 for the 250 bucks? Is the 2.6 GHz that is available for the upgrade a Penryn also? On the SPEC sheets, it fails to say after the 2.6 if it has the 6MB cache...

Thanks

I am pretty sure that Arn compares my demo 32-bit version score with a previous model 2.4 that was running the full 64-bit version of Geekbench.
Not sure how much higher of a score I'd get running the paid version, but I'm sure it would put me over the previous 2.4GHz speed results.

Congratulations on your purchase! Just got a question, do you notice a drastic improvement in terms of battery life over its predecessors?

Paix247: that noise you were hearing is your video card.

Common symptoms include noise when scrolling, using Exposé, and when rendering video streams.

Kinda cool, isn't it? I've reproduced this with PowerMac G5 and greater workstations, the Mini, and most Intel portables.

You said "Apple could be doing alot better if they just got up off their arse and made a real laptop.". You're referencing overall computer market share in your replies. If you showed a article referencing laptops, as you were bashing them, then you would see that Apple is doing quite well.

Apple is already producing real laptops, and they sell very well. Well enough that their market share is growing. It even doubled in previous years.

As a side note looking at your article, it says Apple's personal computer market share fell during a 3 month period, overall it was up from 5.1% to 6.1%.. I don't understand how this is a negative. Overall, Apple notebook AND personal computer marketshare is growing. Contrast this with the other vendors from your article. Acer is ahead of Apple, but only grew from 8.7 to 9.0% in the same time period. HP, who is ahead of them both, only grew from 25.5 to 26.1%. Apples growth is outpacing theirs. The tables on that article show a promising future for Apple.

Please fully read your articles before you reference them as backing up your claims.

I Win!

Just for kicks I ran the 32 bit Geekbench test on my current computer - a 1.2 GHz iBook G4:D

And got a whopping score of...

606

:D

This upgrade is going to be awesome.
Cheers!
