What I find most surprising here is that performance hasn't moved on all that much from my Core 1 Duo 2.0Ghz Macbook Pro (original, early 2006 model).

I get 2390 on Geekbench. Almost 2 years down the line, and we have less than 50% increase...I suppose Geekbench doesn't include the GFX subsystem - though maybe someone can post an XBench result?

Just fired up my new 2.4GHz MBP, base model.
Here is my initial Geekbench (32-bit version) score.

I'll be upgrading to 4GB of RAM and taking apart the computer to throw in my 7200RPM drive in the near future.

CoD2
1024x768 0xfsaa 0xaf 32.92 fps

hhmm why is the FR so ******?? i get better with my x1600...

That's BS. If you read farther into the posts you can find another test that shows a huge difference (and it's on a card using DDR2...the new MBP uses DDR3 I believe).

Zepto did some benchmarks on their 6224 with a 8600M GT 512MB (GDDR2)

Quote:
Counter Strike: Source

1024x768 4xfsaa 8xaf 109.00fps
1280x800 4xfsaa 8xaf 88,81fps
1440x900 4xfsaa 8xaf 72,13fps

That looks much better. The original post was showing a framerate of like 17fps which is utter BS for a card like this, mobile or otherwise. Also, they got those original fps scores with a machine running Vista Home Edition.

Another post:
yeah ie got the 512 gddr2 version and i can run oblivion on max at 1024 res with 2x aa. it also runs call of duty 2 and prey alot better than the original post. It also runs bioshock and stranglehold max at about 35-50 fps average.
and this is the ddr2 version! im using the 158.4 version drivers and have OC the card to 550/450 (the temps never get higher than 70).

yeah im running bioshock at 1024 res MAXED OUT and am geting average 30-60fps (can run it on 1280x800 but only get 30fps average)

I got 3091 with a SR 2.4 refurb, 2GB ram and 32-bit geekbench. So there's really not much in it.

Not that I undestand what any of this means.

whoa from these benchmarks seems like from the SR 2.2-2.4ghz to the new penryn 2.5-2.6 doesnt make a difference whatsoever but a tad bit one (real world usage none). I'm happy with my sr purchase! =D

Only thing I would want is that multitouch trackpad. and i'm curious to know what the hi res looks like on the 17" mbp in led! Man that's the only reason I might want to go to the 17" for is the hi res with the led.. I love the 17"

i really need a new mbp, here are my geekbench scors

Geekbench Score 1360
Integer Score 1719
Floating Point Score 1421

hhmm yea somehow i reckon that under bootcamp or even on leopard/tiger those framerates will increase by at least 50%

i wouldnt really take benchmarks from CS:S, its not exactly that intense of a game.

I ran iTunes visualizer as well as opened about 10 apps. After about 10 minutes i got the following temps (in degrees F).

Question: I get a strange electric buzzing sound coming from the back center of the computer while running iTunes visualizer & when I scroll a web page (but less so)... What's that about?

My friend had an issue on his PC desktop where the graphics card(6800) would buzz whenever something on the screen was moving. It was like a click every time it refreshed, which made a buzzing sound when things moved. The GPU chip is in the back center of the comp. Anyone else have this?

That really surprises me.
3084 points from a brand new 2.4GHz MBP with the Penryn processor.

Just for a comparison, I got these scores with my MBP 2.2GHz SR:

Well do you have 4 gb ram?

Maybe thats the reason ;)

But I'm quite happy that they ain't showing "GREAT", better performencen than the 2.2 ghz (newest) - Just got my blackbook from USA, and can't return it, 'cause I live in Denmark, but got it for a great price because of the dollar-value :D

Nope, 2GB Ram!

Do you have I Stat Pro? I was wondering if the CPU temps have gone down in this new update.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say there is really no speed difference between what was just released and what has been out for over 2yrs now. The scores are all about the same. Pretty shameful marketing on intel's part.

Another 2.5 GHz Penryn result

Just ran Geekbench 32-bit on my new 2.5 GHz 15" MBP. I'm not sure what constitutes a significant difference from the 2.4 GHz Penryns, but it is what it is.

I've never tried out Geekbench before, so i'm not sure how accurately you can compare cross platform, but i've just got some numbers to throw out there.
At home PC (P4 2.4ghz, 1GB ram, 80gb HD) - ~760
At home iMac (G5 2.0ghz, 1GB ram, 250gb HD) - ~1200
(I ran these last nite and i'm at work now, so i can't remember the exact numbers)
What pisses me off is that even tho my iMac rates almost double my PC, most times you sure as hell couldn't tell. It HAS to be the apps themselves that are ****, i mean, Firefox, a simple browser can run like an absolute dog on my mac, but is nippy as on the PC. iMac beach balls lots in Photoshop and Illustrator, whereas the PC is slower but never really conks out and just sits there.

And, I just ran another one:
Work PC (2.13ghz Core2, 3GB ram, 250gb HD)
Overall: 2460
Integer Score: 2928
Floating Point Score: 2402
Memory Score: 1932
Stream: 2088

Compared to the OP:
Overall is higher on MBP by 626
Integer is higher on PC by 268
Floating Point is higher on MBP by 1913(!?)
Memory is higher on MBP by 442
Stream is higher on PC by 380

I tried reading the descriptions of the benchmarks on the Primate Labs website but it's a bit techy - can anyone say what kind of real world stuff would be affected by the various ratings? Photoshop and Illustrator are the main apps to be concerend about for me.

Experience with my iMac frustrates and worries me when considering a MBP purchase. I mean, i don't want to go all out if the apps themselves are still performing **** despite better hardware! I imagine the Intel difference would be to blame, but can someone offer their comparisons on even basic mac apps running on comparable PC hardware?

When you provide an article to back up your claims maybe then you will have an argument, until then its hot air.

lol, but he's right.
in the very article you posted you have the following table:
picture-13.jpg

do you know what "growth" means in english? do you understand what it means? seems not, by your comments.
it's obvious that apple computer sales are growing exponentially. and i'm a brand-new switcher too :)

eheh, my current laptop does 1390 on geekbench..

and in the configs that he can hold without exploding, 666! LOL

can't wait for mine and i envy who is already using it.
the online apple store won't deliver mine until 18 March :s

Eat your hearts out!

I hope there aren't any guys with 2008 Mac Pros that are reading this ;))

When you provide an article to back up your claims maybe then you will have an argument, until then its hot air.

Aside from using your own article to show that you're wrong, heres some more.

http://www.macworld.com/article/59616/2007/08/appleshare.html
http://apple20.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2007/10/11/report-apple-gains-29-share-of-notebooks/

You won't need to read these ones completely to get the gist of it.

You can stop reading when you get to this part:

"Apple’s global PC market share has increased in 10 of the last 11 quarters,
unit sales have grown 28% or better in each of the last four quarters
U.S. notebook sales have been particularly strong, accounting for 47% of Apple’s Mac unit growth and 52% of its revenue in Apple’s most recent quarterly report. "

Although I still recommend reading your articles completely.
