Eh, this thread was intended to be less about how/why I got an exchange, and more about how Apple is getting ripped off, and possibly HACKED.

Is no one interested by this?

Everyone and bitch back and forth. I see both points - nearly 3 months for an exchange is RIDICULOUS. At the same time, the 2010 MBP underperformed and I was left feeling swindled slightly by the employee. Yes, I'm a MR member, and yet, from what I read, none of the rumors said anything about the MBP going quad-core. Had this been speculated (or, had I READ that was the case) I would have held off. My MR "insight" combined with the Apple employee telling me to get the 2010 because the 2011 model won't be much different led me to make the purchase.

I will not defend myself any further.

Hacks, anyone?

confuse, too about the first part. something about a giftcard. i was more interested in how you got your 2010 mbp exchanged because i am in the same boat as you. lol. minus the giftcard and business account. etc.

anyway, i will defend your explanation of feeling left behind. dusted as the saying goes. like you, i was also aware of am imminent refresh. around the time i pulled the trigger on my mbp, the rumor mill picked up pointing to an even earlier release of january to february. i knew that part and weighed the cons and pros of waiting another month or so. but, i guess, i couldn't wait. and i am paying for it in the form of 2 extra cores, better igp, better gpu, better turbo, better everything and 10gb per second of the FUTURE! lol.

whatev. i will live. but only at around at 5700 geekbench points apparently. lol.

Hmmm... wonder if I could trade in this other macbook pro (January 2010 model) I purchased off ebay 4 weeks ago.

Heck.. gonna try it :)D

Can you elaborate further on how you got them to exchange it for 2011 model?

I bought my top of the line 17" i7 2.8ghz back in mid november. I would love to exchange it for the 2011 model. I don't want to start yelling at the guy, act rude, etc... If I can get an exchange the nice way, Ill give it a go, if not I'll pass.

I know tech evolves, but when my top of the line $2750 17"mbp geekbench score is lower than the low end 13" $1200 model, it makes me sick to my stomach.

Are you at the limit of your CPU or are you feeling a bit ashamed of the size of your Geekbench? You bought your computer 4 months ago. I think you need to let that one go there killer.

To clarify:

Someone (not me or my company) applied a discount on my purchase in the amount of $300 2 days after I bought the MBP from an Apple retail store, and took that amount as a gift card (whereas if it were me/the company it would have been refunded to the credit card used to make the purchase). The person in question was listed as Haba Revolt, with email address revoltcomics@me.com on the receipt in which the discount was applied.

I looked this info up very quickly and it appears this person, at least a number of years ago, lives/lived in Argentina. What this means is 1) Apple was hacked, someone applied a $300 Discount to my purchase and received the money as a gift card, or 2) This was an inside job by an Apple employee, who essentially stole $300 from the company.

Does this clarify the "twist"?

Option 2 for sure. And I bet they thought they were never going to get caught. I'm sure with as high-tech as Apple is they have already been tracked down and fired.

When exchanged, did you guys leave your files on there? I just got a 2010 15 i7 on Thursday(It was ordered on Feb 17th, its the 28th, so I'm returning today) and just wonder what you guys did about your files, did you backup and erase everything via a program, if so, how? If not, what did they do to the laptop.

Some might think the operative motive from Apple is to appease enterprise/business accounts.
Apple is doing well in the consumer arena, but is continues to paddle upstream in the enterprise/business notebook market.
From an historical perspective, Dell's largest growth arrived when it started catering to businesses.

Apple Store (Hong Kong Online Store) does not allow me to return my MBP 15" 2010 delivered on 7th February :-( I guess they offer much superior service in the United States.

The CS Rep insisted on the phone that there is certainly no extension to the 14-day return policy. Apple would not receive the returned goods because of this. He asked his manager and his manager answered with a definite "no".

I feel a bit upset as he originally answered "yes" provided that I need to order a new model from them first, and then they can arrange a return of my MBP. :-( But he returned to the call with the bad news.

I guess Chinese culture is not really as nice as that of the States.
