sometimes "photos" videos on iPhones will mute the sound and I have not got around to remedy that yet.
what BT speaker are you using?
I had problems with several cheaper ones, until I purchased a JBL Go which I am using now (which never had a problem with) but with a stereo plug.

I think one BT speaker was a murrkury and I had a Kodak one that is now sitting in a recycling center now.

Bose Soundlink Mini II. I could use a cable instead of Bluetooth, but if Bluetooth has issues then I'm only kicking the can down the street until a potentially later date when I WILL need that functionality, and it will be fubar, unusable. I have the larger Bose speaker, so if I can find it I can see if it works better.

Question: Is it a supported BT version that could be an issue? Sounds hard to believe, but figured I'd ask...

Nice speaker, I gave the same one to my sibling last year.
there has to be no metallic interference between the Mac and speaker
mine worked 90% of the time, sounded good for 2010ish tech!

It does sound very good, still, if it's not warbling. I have a Soundlink (an even older speaker) that I will try to see if it has the same issue. I was using Beats Pro buds early last year, and the sound was pristine, but haven't used them since the mainboard replacement. Hmm... Maybe it's the Soundlink Mini circling the drain closer. That would be sad. It is a great speaker, has been a great speaker.

One related question, is this possibly an artifact of being plugged into a UPS? I've heard there are occasionally some artifacts from some UPS devices. Just curious if anyone knows. I'll search the internets and see if that is possible. (Could filter caps be weakening, etc)

Switched to a JBL Flip 4, and no warbling. Swapped in a Bose Soundlink II (bigger speaker), and it would only play music for three or four seconds and shutdown, so scrapped that, went back to the Flip, and then back to the Soundlink Mini, and am wondering if the power supply for the SL Mini is sketchy or if it's just time to toss it too. (Still warbles) So much stuff is dying around here. And why buy new with the lack of QC going into things now. :(

Both Bose speakers were scrapped. No idea why the Soundlink Mini failed, but it must have been something going out of spec. Disappointed...

And I'm falling back in love with the Mini, as much as I fight it.

"Any cheap monitor under $300/$400 won't play nice with any M-series macs"

This assumption is completely wrong.
Whether a display "plays nice" with a Mac is usually a matter of the connection scheme and the quality of the connecting cable used.

There are SOME displays that don't seem to work well with Macs.
But there are many more that do.

Aha, I use the SoundLink Mini II as a speaker for my 2012 Mac Mini. It's always worked great for me.

The Mac Mini would drive several other brands without a warbling sound, but BOTH the Bose speakers exhibited the problem. They did it with one other device too, so I junked them. Sad, but I got to see inside them. I an astonished that both would freak out like they did. Disappointed completely. Shocked, disgusted, but they were like 7 years old, so *shrug*

I'm not at a loss for speakers to use, but I did really like the sound from them. The wife bought their new Mini, and seems to be ambivalent about it, 'not impressed'. Oh well. The FLIP 4 I have is still going strong, and the Sony XB13's are holding up well. Maybe just time to swap speakers. I've got the power supplies if anyone needs one.

One thing that has been proven to me is that the HDMI cable can be more important than the computer or monitor. I swear that some combinations just don't work well. I tossed an HDMI (Monster brand too) that would flake out occasionally. I had it in my Samsung with my latest model Apple TV, and it was green tint. Swapped it to a computer monitor, and it wasn't stable either. Sure, was it the tv/monitor? Only if the problem continued with a new cable.

There is a lot of 'stuff' flowing through those wires. Enough to make the cable, and the connectors too, vital to everything.
