I have an 8 - 5 job; I can't just wait in line for hours Friday morning...hence the reason I bought online and was having it delivered to my office.

Here is a really crazy off the beaten path idea/question.... over your lunch break can't you just drive to 1) Apple 2) Best Buy 3) AT&T or 4) Wal Mart (all around your area in Columbus Ohio) and just walk in and buy one?

I don't have any such restrictions on my account. I bought my MacBook with the same debit card/checking account. I've never ever had a problem before.

I called an Apple Customer Relations manager; she is looking into what happened and is trying to locate an AT&T store that will keep one 32 GB 3 GS for me on Friday. Yeah man you got screwed on this one. Hope it works out for you

Maybe it's the debit card that is the issue. Somewhere in one of the threads in MR I read that AT&T was NOT accepting debit cards for pre-orders. Maybe that is what the problem is here?

I bought at APPLE. There is no restriction on using a debit card. The card is not the problem.

I also got the same message from Apple:

"To Our Valued Apple Customer:

Our records indicate that we were unable to obtain approval from AT&T
to complete your recent iPhone purchase. As a result, we have
canceled your iPhone order.

Thank you for shopping at the Apple Online Store.

Sincerely,
Apple Online Store Team "

Phone was ordered on 6/8, and the status changed to "Prepared for shipment" on 6/15 then 6/16 changed to "Not yet shipped," and then this morning got canceled with this email.

Thank you Apple!

I do feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one this has happened to!

I don't have an extra $500 in my account (it was a debit card) to buy it AGAIN like they're wanting me to do.

I'm very disappointed. Between AT&T and Apple, they really dropped the ball and all I'm hearing is, "There's nothing we can do." I then correct them and tell them, "No. There's nothing you're WILLING to do."
So essentially, you want them to give you an iPhone on Friday, but you won't be able to pay for it until later the following week (when your bank gets around to applying the credit that Apple issued).

That's a crap situation no matter how you look at it.

Everyone settle down. Things Happen. Just get one in a week or two and enjoy the new 3.0 software in the meantime. Quit being a big baby. If not getting an iphone on launch day is your biggest problem consider yourself lucky.

My money was credited back today. I'll swing by AT&T and Best Buy during lunch, or the Apple Store on Saturday if they have them.

Yes, I realize things happen. But I can just stop by any day when I'm traveling for work. Which is the WHOLE reason I ordered online anyway. If I didn't travel so much, it really wouldn't be a big deal to me. And the fact that they're not interested in remedying their mistake really pisses me off. If I offered that level of service at my job, I could wait in line tomorrow because I wouldn't have a job.

Some people here have ridiculous elitist attitude abd act as if ATT/Apple can do no wrong. Just ignore them. Happy you got your money back and hope you can score one at launch.

I agree with the Job comment, and I'd be in the same boat if I offered tat level of service. I'd be standing in a line alright, the unemployment line not buying a new phone.

I got an email this morning from the online Apple Store indicating my order was cancelled in error and are offering to call me back and offer me expedited shipping and a free iphone case for my inconvenience.

Your order may have gotten messed up like mine?

Great that you got your money back so (relatively) quickly. From the looks of the reports, there aren't any crazy lines (besides 5th Ave.) so I don't think you'll have too much trouble picking one up.

:: sigh ::

I caved. I got up at 3:30, was in line at 4:10, and was number 3 in line. Got a 32 GB model and made it to work by 8:00, even a little early.

I just got an email from Apple canceled my order because "we were unable to obtain approval from AT&T to complete your recent iPhone purchase."

WHAT?!?!? My card has already been charged.

I'm on hold with AT&T on one ear and Apple with the other. There'd better be a good reason for this. I'm traveling for three weeks for work starting monday.

I had the same thing happen, except my card hasn't been charged. Apple transferred me to AT&T where I got cut off. I ended up placing an order online through AT&T.

I was looking forward to my new toy arriving today since I also have the today off. I considered just going to the local Apple store but didn't want to bother waiting in line since there's probably a good chance I'll run into the same glitch there.

Also had my order canceled

I also had my Apple order canceled with no reason given (or existing).

In the last three days I have spent a ton of time on the phone with Apple and AT&T, just gotten a lot of finger pointing, double talk and misinformation.

I have been charged twice now, since I was told my only recourse was to place a new order. Have been told that they would improve my ship date, though my new order still shows a late July ship date (I like how the Fedex delivery of the launch is now standard service).

Oh but the good news is that the $20 "bumper" made of $1 worth of plastic that I ordered with my original phone will ship!

Can't begin to tell you what I think of Apple customer service.
