10.6 Won'treallyworkforanother10patchesCat.

Then again, the only thing different from that name
and the last two releases would be the number
after the first decimal.

I agree with Heat.... I would like the new OS to:

- Work with all Apple apps from day one.
- Work with all current system preferences from day one.
- Add functionality instead of cute features (Coverflow???...WTF)
- Make all current features work perfectly since they are here and working NOW.

- That's my list so far.

bet a lot of people don't know what an Ocelot is.

It's one of these

Nice cats anyways i bet it was awsome seeing one in the flesh?

They're pretty small (bigger than a domestic cat, but not much bigger) and very shy, but incredibly beautiful.

Puma and Panther have already been used, as these are different names for the Cougar I don't think they will use Cougar.

Many years ago i backpacked through most of S America and never saw one, plenty of other stuff mind you, anyways like i posted earlier my guess is OS 11 Lion for the new OS

Panther is a different name of all big cats (their genus is Panthera), technically. Although panther is most often used for leopards, sometimes for jaguars and less for cougars (except in certain places in north america). A black panther (which seemed to be the theme of 10.3) can be either a leopard or a jaguar.

Personally, I'm hoping for some reason to have 11.0 instead of 10.6, but if there will be a 10.6 only Lynx, Cougar, Ocelot and Lion would sound alright (but Lion kinda sounds lame and as pointed out many a time Lynx sounds like Linux). Would it be that bad if they didn't use a cat name?

If they were to skip to OS 11 they'd use a different theme, like cosmic names or something.

this is getting off topic, the thread isn't really about what it's gonna be called, but more about what it would contain, though most of your name suggestions seem reasonable.

If recent patent filings indicate future software/hardware, I'm hoping for a 3D finder incorporating pressure-sensitive touch input.

One step further, I'd like U-force like positional sensing for 3-D manipulation sans any physical contact.

the biggest hardware change required for this is a new Cinema display for the Mac-pro. Mighty mouse needs a revamp too. Perhaps this is the reason the current ones are so long in the tooth?

What do you mean if they skipped? X is ten,and what's wrong with Lion it's king of the beasts?

If they were to forgo making a 10.6, 10.7, etc. to make OS 11 they would probably change their naming theme from big cats to something else.

For fun, post your naming themes for OS 11 and suggest possible names. Like cosmic names and OS 11.0 Nova and 11.1 Asteroid.

Or they could drop them altogether. They started as internal developing names and only became popular with 10.2 and then it became a marketing tool (Panther sounds better than 10.3).

They should leave Mac OS X..... as 10 until we get up to version 9. Or until the cool cat names just run out. Mac OS 10.9 Lion should be the last one.

Then....

BAM! Mac OS 11 Prometheus. :D

Killer App

I would like to see a future update that will communicate to the user in a more conversation style. Further improved and various speech and it can listen to respond to different subjects. And the ability to install conversation or subject packs or be able to teach it yourself.
