if you have been following engadget, there have been leaks of a front assemly that includes a front facing camera, cases with a hole for a rear facing camera and flash, and the screen was recorded to be almost exactly the same as the iPhone 4's (although not exactly the same, which is interesting). I think for sure we'll see at least a near-retina display, and the two cameras are just about a definite. Apple wants your iPod touch to replace your Flip.
edit: and since this is marketed as a gaming device, gyro is definite.
Yup, I love Engadget! I think the screen size on the leaked digitizer was the same as the iPhone 4, but the actual faceplate was a little bit thinner and shorter. I don't think there's a possibility of a "near-Retina" display for three reasons:
- They wouldn't be able to advertise it as having the same Retina Display that the iPhone 4 has
- If it went under 300ppi they wouldn't be able to call it a Retina Display, and it's already hugging the edge at 326ppi
- They won't introduce another new iOS screen resolution because they want App Store fragmentation at a minimum
