I agree with a poster above, I'd recommend NeoOffice over OpenOffice for OS X to anyone. I am happy that OpenOffice is working on an native version, and will certainly check it out when it is released.
I like GIMP, if only because Photoshop is way too expensive for me. I am now trying out Pixelmator (that I got with the MacHeist bundle), but so far it's very disappointing. I mean, you can't even rotate a layer!
(To fix my avatar, I had to select the arrow, cut it, paste it into a new image, then rotate that, then cut that, and paste it back into the first image. How stupid is that?)
MacHeist also added VectorDesigner to their lineup, to be unlocked once they reach $300,000 for donations, so I'm excited to try it out. I've never used Illustrator though, so I probably won't use it beyond the first time I open it
