yes, that looks great, but no map...

Without the map we're back to having just a compass icon. Maybe a generic globe would work, sort of like the old Netscape icon:

Imagine something like that with the compass points and needle replacing the "N".

I think people who don't give a crap what the icons look like might do better to not comment in threads about them rather commenting in them about how they don't care. Icons are a substantial part of the iOS UI so are important to the system, like it or not.

I do think that if Apple were to redesign all the icons to be different shaped turds that half the people on this site would say they love them and that everyone else needs to get over it and stop resisting change etc.

To the OP, I like your icons - I was thinking a dice for game centre (same shape as the icon) but your chessboard is a good spin on it, nice one. I do think Safari is just wrong in its inception since there is also a compass App also but yours is better than Apple's new version. :)

My question was definitely valid. Quote me next time.

And honestly iOS 7's Safari icon looks nice to me. None of the other mock ups I've seen even look like they belong with the rest of them.

I took the liberty of placing the OP's icons on a homescreen picture. I'm not much of a photo editor, so beware my novice skills :p

Original homescreen on top and updated one at the bottom:

Nope, I'm sorry but that does not look good, the icons look less than ok, but once in the OS, they just look horrible, the more and more people make this threads about a redesign icon, the more and more I like the Apple icons.

This is difficult, because the actual name "Safari" is bloody stupid.

By that regards we might as well have a blunderbuss with a tiger and elephant in each corner.

Why does it even need a compass? That's what the map's icon should have.

If they actually wanted to be truly "different", they would do away with that stupid compass and do something entirely new.

Since the name of the app is Safari, the icon should actually relate to that and it's function, which is Internet.

Some insipiration:

and this: http:/ /www.wallsdata.biz/wallpapers/2012/11/Vector-Safari-Sunset-480x360.jpg (for some reason the link needs to be copy past not clicked to work; remove space after "http:/")

Then the idea of a globe outline is great I think. So combining an outlined globe and a peaceful animal that is related to "Safari", maybe would work? A giraffe or elephant silhouette on top of an outlined globe with Africa centered?

Why do people care about this so much? You spend your time in the apps, not staring at icons...

Because aesthetics are very important to the user experience. After all, apple harp on about the whole user experience not just how good an app is :)

I feel like just about anything is better than the iOS 7 icons. Almost every redesign is 10 times better. If your average joe shmoe can make decent looking icons, Apple can too... I really hope their new icons are at least tolerable.
