Sadly my dad isnt around with us today, he passed away 9 years ago from cancer, if he was alive he would order it too he will be 77 this year
You are very welcome! Let me know if you have any concerns I didn’t address. In any case, I hope you fully enjoy whatever you choose. The camera upgrades are going to knock your socks off whether you choose the smaller or larger 13 Pro.Many thanks for your response Dprof. I really appreciate you responding and it has addressed my concerns somewhat and has me leaning towards the big beast again 😁.
I’m so sorry! My dad also would have loved one, but he, too, is gone from cancer.Sadly my dad isnt around with us today, he passed away 9 years ago from cancer, if he was alive he would order it too he will be 77 this year
Don’t get the Max, just get the 13 Pro, the photo quality is the same but much more manageable sizeI’m 75, also enjoy photography and procrastinating over getting a 13PM but somewhat concerned over its size and weight for everyday use as a phone. I’ll be making a big jump up from my 6 hence my concerns. Would be interested how your father gets on and his comments if any.
That’s great to here. I bought my wife the 13 Mini even although her 8 was perfectly fine simply because she takes so many photos of our 1 year old and I want those to be the best possible pictures. I’ve gotten myself the 13 Pro and find myself taking more pictures as the camera is so incredibly good. She doesn’t want the Pro as it would be too big for her hands.
Last night she came in excitedly to show me how good night mode was and she wasn’t kidding, the outdoor pictures look amazing at night.
Awesome! My father, who when he was younger (before I was born and when I was a young kid) was big on photography as a hobby. He spent lots of money on cameras and equipment, even developed his own photos. After I got my iPhone 13PM, I had him watch iJustine's photography video (purely by accident) to show off the screen and speaker quality of the new iPhone. This got him very excited. A few days later he took advantage of a 400 dollar trade in deal for his iPhone 8 Plus through Verizon to get a 13pm at a discounted price (in the new blue, I'm actually jealous)
I came home today and he had bought a tripod attachment that holds a smartphone and had it attached with his 8plus toying around with it, telling me about all the stuff he'll be able to do when his new phone arrives. He was so excited.
He's 65 and retired this year and hasn't really found a hobby yet. I am so glad that Apple's excellent photography has gotten him excited about it again. I told him he would have to do much less tinkering now as well, and also that he will take better pictures than he has ever taken before. He said "I can't wait!! I'm going to have a blast!!"
Thanks Apple!
I told him "Now you can take pictures of sunsets until you sail off into one" LOL
That's exactly my feelings. My wife and I are young and in our twenties, when I'm in my twilight years with grandkids the things I'll cherish most are the times I spent with my family and I'll do that by looking at pictures and videos of them. I won't be saying to myself 'gosh I wish I hadn't spent $1000 on a phone'.Kudo to the OP and his Dad - great story!
I think it's an underrated aspect of keeping up with phones, having the best available camera (and I'm classing 12, 13 and 13 Pro together here as modern, not *the absolute* best as such).
My kid is now 18 & just left for University, so was born pretty much at the emergence of camera phones & ubiquitous daily free-of-charge unlimited photography - I think I got the first Nokia camera phone in summer 2002 & they became widespread quite quickly from then. The first photos from Blackberrys and Sony Ericsson phones then were miraculous but lousy, small & grainy by todays standards.
I have Smart Albums in my current Photos library (2012 onwards) filtered by camera model & the jump in quality from iPhones 5 / 6 / 7 etc through to today is incredible. Those moments with your kids - and in some cases people - aren't coming around again, so get the best pics you can whilst you can (and LEARN HOW TO BACK-UP PROPERLY!! 😂)
Agreed, I'm a 6'3" man with large hands and the 13 Pro is almost too big. I would never get the 13 Pro Max, it would be uncomfortable to use.Don’t get the Max, just get the 13 Pro, the photo quality is the same but much more manageable size
It's a fantastic photo!View attachment 1853422
(thought I inserted that in my last post, mod can merge them)
If the size is a concern go for the smaller Pro. The cameras are the same this year.I’m 75, also enjoy photography and procrastinating over getting a 13PM but somewhat concerned over its size and weight for everyday use as a phone. I’ll be making a big jump up from my 6 hence my concerns. Would be interested how your father gets on and his comments if any.
I got the 13 Pro and I'm very happy with it. I'm a 6'3" man with large hands and it feels big to me, the Max is too big in my opinion. The screen on the regular Pro is already massive.I am yet to physically hold either of the Pros but so far the Pro Max just seems to big for my use so I‘m leaning to the Pro also. Still procrastinating ???
Hope he enjoys it. I'm buying my parents 13 Pro's when they finally come to the US to visit in November as electronics are a lot cheaper than in Europe. They haven't met their granddaughter who's 16 months old now thanks to stupid covid restrictions.Just an update. His phone arrived this evening. I am going to help him set it up and give him a walkthrough when I get out of work tomorrow.
I think the new (new to him) gestures will throw him off for a bit.
That’s pretty cool. Do you think your dad might want to recreate this scene with his new camera? It would be fun to see the differences between the two.I told my father about this post, and we wanted me to share this with you. It's one of his favorite photos from back in 1985. It's a time lapse of a bridge going over a bay near us, it allows you to see the streaks from the headlights and taillights of the passing vehicles. He did a lot of tinkering to get it to come out this way.
I actually suggested that to him. He told me that the area where he shot that photo has been closed off to the public and that he doesn't think there's a spot where he could get a good angle on the bridge. That’s pretty cool.
