Coming from an XS Max, The 11 has a faster chip, same ram as the pro’s, better speakers, better battery, better glass, better cameras (front and back) than the XS. And I upgraded from 64gb to 256gb and still came out cheaper. The only “downgrade” was the screen, and I don’t miss OLED at all. So yes, it was a worthwhile upgrade.
If I could use OLED I'd rather have the XS Max personally. Feels more premium, larger screen etc. 11 feels like the consultation prize especially without 1080p.

Hey if OLED is that important to you, good thing Apple makes them now. Some of us are perfectly fine with LCD (apparently a lot of us, going by the sales figures). I'll gladly accept my "consolation prize" (which is about $300 sitting in my pocket), thank you very much.

Biggest thing is the OLED is best viewed in a dark environment (my theater is totally blacked out) but how many of us are staring at our phones in the dark consistently?

This right here. As an IT guy, as it is, I'm already not watching TV or on my phone late at night simply because it messes with the circadian rhythm. I'm one of those guys who, for the last 20 years (am 43) has slept maybe 5-6 hours a night, no matter what.

A few years back I found out about the whole blue-light thing, and got a Kindle Paperwhite, stopped using monitors/LCD screens after about 8, and holy crap - in 2 days flat I went from 5 hours a night or so to *9* hours of sleep a night, and then a solid 7.5 every night.

So there's already one reason for which I have no need or desire to be on an iDevice past about 8 or 9 p.m. As such, the lack of 'deeper blacks' is not exactly going to kill me. Yes, I may miss the OLED resolution, but I don't ever remember looking at my 4/5/6/8 and thinking "Boy this screen is crap." Even if the screen itself isn't the best....great camera, 128Gb storage, etc. I'll survive. LOL

Upgraded from an 8 plus. I was hesitant at first because I really wanted the pro, but didn’t want to spend that kind of money, especially since I would only be able to get a 64gb instead of the 128. I’m really not seeing what everyone is crying about with this phone, the display looks amazing! The iPad has less pixel density and yet no one complains. What’s everyone’s obsession with bezels too? It looks far better than the old design of the 8... but everyone runs around these days obsessing about bezels. I’m really impressed with Face ID. It’s a great phone and I’m glad I got it.

Anyone got a good case for the 11 they’d suggest?

I’m back on my X and the size is just right but I am missing using the 11 for screen size, any cases people are using that help regarding using a bigger device?

The Totallee matte (I used the black) case is paper thin. Crazy thin. Very little protection but if you want thin that’s the case.

Have you figured out how to get the home screen to rotate into landscape, get the battery percentage to show in the bar? I also upgraded from an 8 Plus.

The iPhone X served me well for almost 2 years. Other than the battery not really lasting a day anymore (even though i was still at 94% capacity), the phone ran great. However, I wanted a larger screen. But not the massive Pro Max screen. So that's why I chose the iPhone 11. Not to mention that the starting price is much less than the pro models.

My first impressions after a weekend of use:

- The 6.1 inch screen is really the right size. I honestly do not notice a difference between OLED and LCD. Maybe there is a slight difference, I just don't notice it in regular use.

- The processor is speedy. When I go to the battery screen under settings, my battery use comes right up. On the X it was at the least a few second wait, sometimes much more.

- The battery seems to be great, especially coming from an X. I used the phone all day Saturday, and it was still at around 60% when I went to sleep. Great battery life.

- I do kind of miss the telephoto lens. But the optical zoom is good. And I took some really great pics using the ultra wide angle lens. The new portrait filters are great as well, they look like studio portraits.

- I chose black, but it didnt really matter what color I chose, I put it right into an otterbox commuter case.

- If you are trading in an X it's really a relatively inexpensive upgrade.

All in all, it was an impressive first weekend with the 11. Let me know your thoughts on your new phones!
Thanks for the review! Excited for the extended battery life. Mine is constantly dying on me even when I'm very careful to keep all unnecessary apps closed and the backlight pretty dim.

Look, we are all gadget geeks or we wouldn't be on MacRumors. That being said we dont have unlimited budgets. The 11 has essentially all of the features of the pro, the best screen size, and a "bargain" price. It's just the smarter buy.

I had no intention of offending you or anyone else who bought the 11. I've been very happy with my 7 plus LCD. Speaking for myself I can see the resolution difference between the 7 plus and 11 even though the 11 has a great vibrant display. Also because I'm used to the plus-size phone the natural upgrade is the Max and I like its jumbo edge to edge display, but I cannot use Apples OLED as it gives me eye ache and headaches. So this is why, for me, it feels like I have to settle for the iPhone 11 which is a little deflating. Sure it's good to have the £500 difference back in my pocket but I wanted Apples best. First World problems I know.

That's very interesting and I had a similar experience.

Whenever I spend more than an hour on my phone, I don't have good sleep, regardless of the time of day. However, I also noticed that playing with my iPhone before 8 PM (or thereabout) affects my sleep greatly.

I have always been under the impression that the more hours I sleep, the more rested I will feel. I am now convinced that is totally false. When I don't use computers/phones for an entire day and get some natural sunlight, I feel a lot more rested and restored after a 6 hour sleep than I do after a 10 hour sleep (following a typical "phone day").

Moral of the story is: put your phone away after 7/8 PM. Having good deep sleep is more important. I'm pretty sure this affects everyone. It's just that many people don't talk about it because (a) they are addicted to their phone 24/7 and (b) they don't know what good sleep feels like anymore.

Isn’t there an app for that? 😎

It’s difficult for me, I think 11 Pro has a lot to offer, but I’m just not wanting to tote around a 6.5 iPhone with me all the time. I mean if I want the best camera, then obviously that’s my only options with a 5.8/6.5 device. But truthfully, I don’t really care about the whole OLED versus LCD argument, all of Apples displays look great. OLED has its advantages, but apples LCD panels have been matured for years now with its calibration and overall color/temperature. The big thing moving forward for me in the future with a Phone like the 11 Pro, is the overall pocketability factor (Yes, I made that word myself 😁), It’s obtrusive, but given I like larger displays, that’s the trade-off that I have to accept.

Sorry dude, the 1940s have claim to the word https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/pocketability

Man I was really happy when Apple announced they were going with 11 instead of XI for the name. Seems we'll probably never get away from people referring to the past phones as the "ecks" or "ecks-ess" though.

Oh well. First world/grammar nazi problems. I'm happy you're happy with your phone nonetheless!

They’re still on a Roman numeral system and the 11 means 2.

I have the 11 pro and I've always been the one who has to have the latest and greatest new tech, but man I would love to just save the money and go with the regular 11. Unfortunately for me, I've never liked big phones so since the 11 pro is the smallest new phone that is what I went for. I think that says a lot that Apple offers an excellent phone in the 11 at a good price that I would be totally good with if not for the size.

I went for the iPhone 11 (that I really like by the way) instead of the pro. For One, the iPhone 11 is really good and does 95% of what the pro does for $300 less and 2, I don’t wanna spend $1000+ on an iPhone with a lighting port when the iPhone 11s or 12 (whatever they’re going to call it) is rumored to have usb C and a new design. So I went for the cheaper one to get the iPhone 11 series experience without breaking the bank and I’m very happy.

No home screen rotation is available on the 11 phones, pretty sure only the old Plus phones had this feature.
The plus phones have rotation. Can't think why Apple don't include it anymore? Perhaps they don't want you to use your iphone as an ipad replacement? Or they don't want a feature that would be missing on the smaller XS and Pro?

Just to update my review after almost 2 weeks of use for anyone considering the 11:

- Battery life has continued to be phenomenal. I think I dipped below 50% at the end of only 1 day.

- The cameras are great, I have taken some really nice shots. I love using the ultra wide in the right situation. I do miss the telephoto BUT you of course can zoom in digitally.

- The LCD screen is a non issue for me. It’s bright even in direct sunlight. To me everything looks clear and sharp and colorful. I had the OLED screen on the X, so I’m familiar with it. However, I believe the LCD of the 11 is a quality screen, and really worth it to keep the starting price down.

- I still think that this is the right size phone.

- My only issue is that I can’t hear Siri in my car when connected to Bluetooth but I think this is an iOS 13 issue rather than an iPhone 11 issue.
